My monstera is 43 years old (mum was given it as a present when I was born) I now have to look after it and this is the first time I’m trying to do something with it. Your video has been great as this plant dying terrifies me. So thank you so much.

Wow that sounds like a beautiful plant! How big is it?
@musahenderson
@musahenderson 7 ай бұрын
@@shoshoiLLindividual it was about 5 foot tall but not very bushy. The main root died and it was just living in the air. Now the two main cutting are about 2 1/2 feet each. Hopefully new roots will appear soon.

Make sure you have multiple clones of it that way if the mother dies you still have an exact clone of it I guess it's bad but not as bad...

If anyone wants to buy that super thrive stuff I recommend buying it from an actual store and not from Amazon. Amazon sold me some that wasn't completely sealed (they tried to reseal it) and they diluted it with nasty water. I didn't know it at the time because it was my first time using it. But I used it on 4 different plants and all 4 got moldy soil and killed all of the plants. I've since bought it from home depot and the color is darker, Amazon one was almost clear. The new one I have works great though!

I just discovered my folks have an actual MON-STERA growing up a tree. Thing is an actual monster, it has a 2-3" thick twisting trunk going up the tree (oak). There are internodes in the chunky branch about every 1". Its insane. I was super excited to find it while cutting back some selloum and other overgrowth.

I NEEEEEEDED THIS VIDEO! I inherited a 15+ YEAR OLD MONSTERA from the people that lived in my home before me! (It may very well be older) It was TOO BIG to move w them. It has aerial roots that have literally become a carpet of vines on my terrarium/plant room. They’re not quite long or strong enough for Tarzan to travel on, but a toddler Tarzan could swing safely! 😂 I can’t even count the amount of them. (It would take a minute) No. I do t live in a jungle... really. It’s a unique home. It has a plant nursery, right off the living room. South facing ground to ceiling windows. (It does burn the leaves, i have to move the stems as needed) The floor is sunk in and filled with RIVER ROCK...literally the builder dumped a truck load of river rock in the sink in plant room. I could probably plant anything directly into my floor. I didn’t even know what plant it was until I watched your video. My friends have told me it was an elephant ear plant?? I also didn’t know what the aerial roots were. Believe it or not I’m a zoologist. Had to study ecology, just never had enough time to master botany. I’m getting good at it because of people like you! THANK YOU!! Still, i was so overwhelmed at one point, I was honestly going to cut off all the aerial roots because they’re all over the place and take up so much space. 🤔 Hmmm no. I live in the desert southwest of New Mexico, so I imagine the aerial roots absorb any moisture from the air or from the ground, I don’t know. I’m thankful I didn’t cut them off. Now, because of you, I’m trying to figure out how many plants to make out of this one giant plant. Rather than split it in half somehow. Much easier. I’m going to have to watch your video several times to find the brown nodes and understand what you mean with the aerial roots. As I said I literally have dozens of the aerial roots. Anyway thank you so much for this video I needed it so bad. Forgive me for this being so long. If you have any additional advice that you could give me based on the fact that my plant is so massive has so many roots and is so old. I just subbed. I’m going to start binge watching now. In addition to the Monstera, I also inherited a 15+ yr old RUBBER PLANT, JADE, and ALOE. Plus a 7 yr old mistletoe cactus. I’ve propagated at least 75, 1 ft tall jade plants, just using what I found hiding for me under the GIANT 10 yr old canopy. I’ve not touched the Rubber Tree, because it’s a tree, but it’s 8-9 ft tall. (My home has cathedral height ceilings) It’s supported by ropes tied on my beams. It’s un movable, but in a giant pot and needs help. It burns against the south windows! I hope you have more vids! 😂

And the arial roots will gouge into your drywall overnight 😂. I’ve got all kinds of little dug outs from them so they all got the clips! My husband liked it as then they weren’t combing his hair when he walked by the stairs. I’ve just taken 2 cuttings for the first ever time from my 30 year old Plant 🪴 I inherited it when my Great Granny passed away, my Daughter and her sister are both wanting to have a plant themselves, So I’ve got 2 cuttings, just below the node parts, I used Rooting Powder, that’s in the water too and they’re in a glass jar by my window, How long do you think it’ll be before I start seeing roots ? I’m quite nervous about it, my Daughter is 29 now and she can remember me Always having my plant, so I really hope I can give her a nice Baby version for her and her partners new house 🏡 First house! And also her sister too, they both love my plant and are excited to have one each, I hope I don’t let them down 😟🪴 Great Video, Keep up the great work 😃👍🏻🪴 🌱 Stay Well, Love from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 UK 👍🏻

I am NOT an indoor plant person, plants have come to me to pass on to a better place. I can grow amazing, huge fruits and veggies but never indoor plants idk why... so a few weeks ago I was hitting some yard sales with the hubby and a sweet elder lady had some of these propagating in a bucket for sale (@$2 a stock which i thought was a BARGAIN) But I told her they were too beautiful for me to take home and mess up. She told me that her best friend of 53 years had passed away a couple months ago from breast cancer (my mom just won a battle of 5 years of stage 4) and her friend got the mom plant as a gift the day her son passed in a car accident 3 years ago. And she hands me the biggest one with 6 nodes on it and said "I know she'll do great with you" and put it in my hands as a gift. I have felt so attached to it since but cant bring myself to cut in all the proper spots😢 i have clipped 3 areas but they each have 2 nodes w 2 leaves each. Should i cut it? Im sorry for the long post i just want to make the point that this little plant means a lot to me and I dont want to mess it up. I want to grow it and share it with my kids. I'm so scared i wont be able to help this little plant thrive 😭

Can you please do a video on how you keep your plants from infestations! (Fungus gnats, scale bugs, thrips etc) I have all 3 :( I have neem oil but it didn't work when I used it maybe I'm doing it wrong

Great video! Thank you! I have a question I already have my cuttings in water for about 2 months, they already have lots of roots! I want to repot them in soil.. should I do it now ? Or wait until Spring time? I live in California and the weather is getting colder. Please advise!!

it's really up to you! you are lucky that you live in California, so the climate is a little more temperate and it's easier to plant year-round... i would say go for it! xo

my plant's stem got a bit damaged from overturning onto the floor. I have taken a few cuttings, should I just cut that one down as the stem is not thick enough to hold the weight of the leaves, and I'm worried where there is a split in the stem that it might die off, I put a plaster on it, it was the only thing I could think of but I think it is still leaking sap and there are one or two more leaves with nodes. Thank you for this video!

can you replant in the same pot you took the leave after the roots growing?

Hello, just found your page! Can you please tell me what to do with a stem that lost its leaf due to it turning brown and yellow? Can I still propagate, or it’s too late for that stem?

Do you have a node on the stem? If you have a node, put it in water like she was saying, it’ll get roots and shoot out new leaves eventually.

Can you propagate a droopy leaf? And also propagate it singular? Just one in the jar? Thanks!

Hii! I was wondering when you cut the monstera with the node do those leaves then produce more leaves or is it going to stay 1 leaf? Like I notice when my plant grows it’s always the newest leaf to produce a newer leaf if that makes sense! *first time monstera plant mom* 🥰

I’ve done this and after 4 weeks I see a root growing but the two leaves are wilting and look weak, any ideas why? It is in a sunny spot. Thanks

Does it matter what season you cut the plant up in. It is cold here at present and thought it might be good to get them going befor summer. The parent plant is outside growing around my kitchen window and looks lovely but has put a lot of growth on so I want to prune out a couple of vines. It has several now and is quite large.

We inherited a monstera from a wook after a disco biscuits show in Dillon, hoping we can get it to root. Thanks for the tips and B4L!
