Marcus Holdvessel All we cared about were the monsters going into the character slots. I think how we did it was whenever 2 players got together or in the arena, they chose their strongest monster and put it in their thing and fought trying to get the puzzle pieces.

@@jtf5223 Honestly, Duel Links is pretty great. It's basically Yu-Gi-Oh Lite, with smaller deck, hand, and field sizes. This makes a surprising amount of difference in the game, as several support cards become powerhouses, like the Amazoness cards. The characters can also equip and ability to mix thing up even more, and there's dozens of those. I'd recommend you give it a try.

@@dsproductions19 speed duel makes people misplay with the no main phase 2 rule. if you try to play regular after only playing duel links for a long time you set your backrow before attacking which risks their premature removal or if you do the opposite you forget there is no main phase 2 and get salty you cant set your backrow and have to end your turn

Mattel really went all-in on the gaming theme with their Yu-Gi-Oh! stuff. I remember even the first couple of their action figures included little games as accessories. (I remember wondering what "Janken" was when I saw these little pieces included with my toys.)

I think this looks like a lot of fun! It sadly doesn't look like it's in Tabletop Simulator yet, I hope to see it set up as a result of this video! I am a huge fan of Yugioh, and this game looks like an absolute blast, and it's really nice to see it capture the spirit of the original manga, this theme of being a master of various different games. (Thank you Jwittz, by the way, for getting me curious enough to read the original manga. I absolutely loved it, and have been strongly encouraging my friends to read it) so I hope to see it show up on Tabletop sim so i can play this with my friends!

Between the monsters, right? I mean, Kaiba knows martial arts, and Joey and Tristan are decent brawlers, but otherwise the actual characters don't really fit the spirit of a fighting game. Would non-transformed Yugi get the Oddjob advantage and be immune to all high attacks unless he's jumping?

To answer your question: My idea is for a sort of MvC 1 style game (where you have a team of 2 fighters and an assist). First you pick a Duelist (Yugi, Mai, Joey, etc.). Each Duelist has an Exclusive monster (Dark Magician, Harpie Lady, Flame Swordsman, etc.) and there’s a pool of generic monsters (Celtic Guardian, Amazoness Swordswoman, Time Wizard, etc.) that you can pick from for the second fighter. Each Duelist also has several options for Spell and Trap Cards (L Trigger and R Trigger). Some are exclusive to that Duelist (Magical Hats, Cyber Armor, Roulette Spider, etc) while others are generic (Mirror Force, Swords of Revealing Light, Elf’s Light, etc). Instead of both fighters have their own health bar, the whole team has a shared bar (8000 LP). Spell and Trap Cards also have cool downs so you can’t spam them. There’s also Level Special Attacks (the bars that fill up) for each monster. Dark Magician uses Dark Magic Attack to lockdown your opponent’s Spell and Trap Cards; Blue-Eyes shoots a Burst Stream of Destruction in a straight line for massive damage; Harpy Lady splits with Elegant Egotist into Harpy Lady Sisters for a little bit (being faster, stronger, and tankier), and so on.

My older brother had this game sitting in his closet, and when I was sick with chicken pox and was home for a week, me and my dad would play board games all the time. I remember rummaging through the closet and finding this game and my dad appeased my childhood whimsy and we played this for a solid two hours. Good times

Review DUEL LINKS so that it get more recognition please. It’s a great game that has huge updates, ultra in-depth story updates, balancing, constant events, a ridiculous roster of characters, and I have played it entirely for free and I casually maxed three characters out. Hand fulls of free items and currency is given to you and attainable in fun ways, each character has a mission-list and reward pool. I mean dang, I have every major card without paying a dime.

This video actually made me want this game, and after searching small game shops, I actually found a copy! It's super fun and even my family who knows nothing about Yugioh can play it. One thing I will say that is different from my copy and this one, is the character decoder and monster cards are all different. Like the monsters have different numbers on them and the decoder spaces are different, so I guess it's just random for whatever monster you get

Idk if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there is a very similar board game, but with Megaman NT Warriors theme instead. It was more Co-Op oriented than this as you can play as Megaman, Roll, Protoman, and Gutsman to take on the villains from that anime. The Arena played more like the NT Video Games with a 3x3 grid that you moved your warrior on. Never really had a chance to play it, and lost most of the components by the time I got older. I picked it up as a Big Lots one year when NT was still popular.
