Weirdly, Joey winning a duel by psyching an opponent out actually IS character development for him. His biggest losses (off the top of my head Vs. Yugi in Duelist Kingdom and Vs. Marik in Battle City) are because he gets intimidated into not pressing the advantage when he has it. Him taunting an opponent into a misplay is... genuinely, him learning from his own failures.

Fun facts: 1. The story of R was created by Takahashi himself way before as it was intended to be part of the original manga, but it ended up being cut. 2. In chapter 14, Kaiba proposes the idea of creating a facility to train duelists, a direct reference to Duel Academia in GX. 3. The only time Yugi/Atem tries to use Ra in manga continuity is in Yugioh R, although the summon was negated (in the original manga he only summons Ra so that he can crate Horakhty, not to use Ra itself. He did use it to destroy Diabound in the memory world, however Yami Bakura rewound time so it never happened.)
@jimmysanders5054 жыл бұрын
Another fun fact is that after Yugi's duel with #2, Atem says that Yugi is possibly the only one who can defeat him...alluding to the ceremonial duel. (which was better in the anime) I haven't read the actual manga ceremonial duel in a while, but the other weird part about this is that it gives Atem an idea of how Yugi's deck is going to look and how he's going to duel when they face off. I don't think he had that knowledge in the anime, which was a benefit for Yugi.

@rob19ny2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmysanders505 After the Duel at pier in Battle City when everyone was leaving, Yami Yugi stated if one person could beat him then its Yugi. When Yami Yugi was about to build his deck to face Yugi, Yugi, who has not once acted in such a way before in the entire manga, cockily stated that he knew all of Atem's moves. This ruined the Duel because you now know BS is going to happen. And it did. Takahashi had to force Atem to lose during moments he could have won. The turn Atem summoned Obelisk, Takahashi could have made Atem summon Ra instead to win on that turn because Yugi had no cards to defend. Instead of dealing 4000+ dmg to Yugi with Ra, Yugi takes 1000 dmg with Obelisk's atk. The other moment was the penultimate turn when Takahashi made Atem draw multiple cards and he did nothing with them to bank everything on Osiris. Atem had won his games mainly with using Magic and Traps to create a win, but this time he was relying on "power" (high atk) to win the game. Also, Takahashi came up with the setting. Itou was the one to do the rest so its pointless to connect it to the main manga. R released after the manga ended, so it takes into account the reader read the manga, which is why it references the final duel and has Yami Yugi summon The Tricky, for example. We don't know how it would play out by Takahashi if it was in the original manga. It doesn't give an idea to Atem on what Yugi's deck looks like. Also also, the anime is irrelevant. It's an adaptation of the manga following it from point A to point B while changing things in-between. Yami Yugi in the anime doesn't know what Yugi plays like just like in the manga it is adapting.

@@luisgabrielramos7923 I’d say that if you enjoyed Waking the Dragons or the Pyramid of Light movie, you would probably enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh! R. It doesn’t really enrich the original story at all, but it has some really awesome monster designs and artwork, plus it introduces some new perspectives on older characters like Bandit Keith and Pegasus, even if those details are kind of weird. In that way, it’s a lot like those previously mentioned filler stories in the anime: there are some interesting (if not always well executed) lore details and cool visuals, but it just doesn’t add anything substantial to the story or characters. If you can look past the fact that the plot is a bit repetitive and nonsensical, then I’d say give it a shot! Personally, I don't like how they cut out a lot from the original anime, it sometimes seems rushed now and things aren't built up as much. It had a great plot and the card games were interesting, they would go on for more than one episode sometimes even. Some ppl now won't be able to see what is was before, with half of the stuff missing and it being mainly the games that are cut.

I also like that the psyqualia hasn't changed much and how the cards are other beings. I guess I'm just a big fan of the original

I only knew of this manga as "That one spinoff that Gorz the Emissary of Darkness first appeared in". Anyone who played Yugioh from 2008 to 2012 know how much of an effect Gorz had on the competitive play style of players. I still to this day attack directly with my smallest monsters first. Fun fact: We even know the name of the Token he summons which is just referred to as "Emissary of Darkness Token" ,but her name is actually Kaien. I believe the name is Japanese in origin, so it's pronounced Kai-En.

I personally never got it either. gx and 5ds are both directly sequels to the original(even tho 5ds might as well not be because it does not even matter to the plot) and zexal and arcv are in weird bizarro-timelines in the same multiverse. Vrains is the first real spinoff and it parallels how generation6 of pokemon softrebooted the series.
@MrZer0934 жыл бұрын
Gen 6 is actually the start of a new timeline of sorts in the series that takes place in a world with mega evolution. It becomes much more obvious in ORAS and later USUM as they actually reference other timelines especially in the postgame storylines.
@agirlinsearchof90574 жыл бұрын
Yep. I personally call them sequels since they take place after each other. Calling them spin-offs implies that DM is meant to be the focus, rather than the new installment.

It'd be very easy to fix up that detail: Make it that Yako is trying to get Pegasus to come out of hiding/tries to revive Cecilia instead of him (which would make it less creepy that he intends to use Tea's body). Maybe have Pegasus show up at the end for the big, happy ending to top it off.

Vanguard just this week had a big 10th year anniversary stream where they announced a full sequel of the game with new themes and new mechanics and new formats. It launches in May, that'd be the ideal time for newcomers because you wouldn't need any of the 10 prior years to get into it.
