I love this 'in the dojo' kind of content, as well as your rants. Hope to see more of this.

Great stuff. I once landed a men kaeshi gyaku do during shiai. I was so proud in the moment, but I didn't get the ippon. I asked my sensei about it later since he was one of the shinpan. He said it was b/c I cut to my hip instead of my center.

I hope I can join next time, this looks and sounds like a very educational seminar, been a fan of the show a while now but you sound like really good teacher in the dojo itself.

Thank you for uploading this Sensei. Gyaku dou is one of my favourites and this came out during the lunch break of national squad training! Definitely going into the next section with an improved arsenal.

Thank you for showing this, i was worried that i wasn't doing it right, i started practicing it after reading about it on the late Geoff Salmon sensei's blog, it's obviously a great waza to have against idle sanpo mamori users.

Really good points there actually.

What do you feel is the best gyaku-do zanshin in shiai? Moving out seems risky to receiving a strike, I typically move into the other person but I'm having mixed results with it shiai. Seems largely due to what refs I have. Some seem to know how to score it and others don't.

It depends on the context of the strike itself. If the Do is good, then you should not receive a strike if you move away fast enough, but also like to close the distance too. I agree many Shinpan struggle to judge Gyakua-Do though.
