I'm starting to feel like the older generations, thinking to myself that things were better before. Although this time it doesn't seem to be an illusion, or just a nostalgia feeling, the more I think about it, I find more rational reasons to think such. It's mostly a mixed bag, socially we've progressed a tad (when you add everything up), but ecologically, politically and economically we've regressed to a point where it's hard to be optimistic about the fate of the civilization as we know it.

Everyone seems to be asking so I looked it up, and found this, "The lyric “Are we human, or are we dancer?” was inspired by a quote from legendary “gonzo journalist” Hunter S. Thompson. The original quote…if it ever existed is "America is raising a generation of dancers, afraid to take one step out of line."
@MonaRoo88
@MonaRoo88 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! Me too. This is the only song that I’ve wondered what it meant so I looked it up and of course it was from something brilliant! Of course Brandon wrote it off of a Hunter S. Thompson quote💕 I believe he said they won an award for the most grammatically incorrect song, which I also learned is a thing.🤣

Yeah it seems the emphasis is supposed to be on you questioning the existence of your individual humanity so that’s why it’s are you an individual human or an individual dancer rather than the plural form. Very deep and a great addition to the furtherance of the humanities and our understanding of how romance, soul and devotion can give insight to inner self over the fabrications and parameters set for us to conform and fall in line.

FAQ -The correct lyrics are "are we human, or are we dancer" -The above line was inspired by a quote from Hunter S. Thompson, saying America is "raising a generation of dancers". Dancers is used to symbolize that we live to meet expectations, like we're choreographed. (up to interpretation?) -In my personal opinion, the word "dancer" was used instead of "dancers" for a reason. It is used to let us know he is not talking about the profession or hobby, but rather a state of being (like a species?). This way it matches how he used "human" instead of "humans". -Yes, The Killers are the best band ever.
@IsuzusanH6
@IsuzusanH6 8 жыл бұрын
+A.L Hall I don't know for the interpretation of dancers... As a former dancer myself, I used this way to express my feelings, even if it was choregraphed. Plus, the choregraphy is nothing... It's your interpretation of it that makes it interesting. The more you put emotions in your movements, the more you can touch the heart of your public. So to me, "Dancer" here express our ability to be emotionnal beings. Aaand I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, english is not my first langage so I might have written some strange things XD (And I don't really know The Killers work, but surely this song is a masterpiece >w
@ALHall-yw5jo
@ALHall-yw5jo 8 жыл бұрын
+IsuzusanH6 I absolutely agree with you about the choreography. I used the above interpretation simply because it's the most widely accepted interpretation of the quote. I don't think it is meant to put down choreography, but rather get his point across in an easy to understand way. And the best part of art is that everyone's view on it is based upon their experiences! The song could be about aliens for all we know. All we can do is speculate. Your English is very good. It is my first language, and I think you're better at it than me! :)

I did my best to notice When the call came down the line Up to the platform of surrender I was brought, but I was kind And sometimes I get nervous When I see an open door Close your eyes Clear your heart Cut the cord Are we human Or are we dancer? My sign is vital My hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human Or are we dancer? Pay my respects to grace and virtue Send my condolences to good Give my regards to soul and romance They always did the best they could And so long to devotion You taught me everything I know Wave goodbye Wish me well You've gotta let me go Are we human Or are we dancer? My sign is vital My hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human Or are we dancer? Will your system be alright When you dream of home tonight? There is no message we're receiving Let me know, is your heart still beating? Are we human Or are we dancer? My sign is vital My hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer You've gotta let me know Are we human Or are we dancer? My sister passed away when i was 2 years old. My mom recorded me saying "this song reminds me of my sister" when i was 9 years old. My mother was shocked because me and my sister had a good bond when she was born. She used to cry a lot but when i was there to play with her she would start laughing and smiling. At my 10th birthday my mom and dad gave me a cd with The Killers - Human on it. Everytime something sh*t happens this song will come on the radio ( like right now i broke my thumb ). Me and my mom were riding to the hospital and my mother turned on the radio, this song came up and i had that several times. And when this song comes up i feel something in my body. And then is when i know i have a beautiful sister angel standing on my shoulder. I believe in miracles, sometimes miracles are closer then you think. I love you Eva R.I.P 11-06-2004 You will for always be my angel❤

It is about how they went from being a normal person to becoming a successful musician celebrity type deal and the term dancer is being related to being a robot (will your system be alright, if you dream of home to night, emphasis on system) or something that's not human because of their unique status in life; perhaps a slight allusion to how entertainers are a mass marketed commodity.

Once at the mall, while I was lining up for the cashier, this song started playing on the radio. I couldn’t help but sing along to myself. Then another voice-a man-in the line started singing along, too. It was such a feel-good moment-two humans who didn’t know each other, connected by The Killers through this song. I was smiling inside the whole time, and I bet the other The Killers fan was, too. =)

I lost my dad in 2014 when I was 14 it was heartbreaking 🤍 this song played in the background the last time I was with him 🤍 he hugged me and kissed my forehead and told me he loved me 🤍🤍 Today this song plays in the background of all the achievements in my life and I just know he is with me for example ~ The first time I drove in my car with my full license it played on the radio - The time I went into the back to get my business card for my small business it played in the back never have I heard music in the bank - on my 18th birthday it played on the radio when I was getting ready to go out - or when I brought my little sister on her first holiday since we lost him the singer at the Irish bar sang it as soon as we got our drinks and took our seat without us requesting it since the night he said goodbye to me that night on the 18th of may it has played anytime I was sad or accomplished something it’s his way of letting me know he is with me 🤍🤍🤍 Thank you so much for making this song it means everything to me when I hear it 🤍🤍🤍

I never had heard this song until last Saturday. I am from Brazil but I was in Rome with my wife celebrating our 10th-year anniversary and there were 2 street artists playing this song in this square near Sisto Bridge. It was the perfect day, the sunset was beautiful over the water of the Tiber River. We just grab 2 beers, sat down and enjoyed that moment. This song hit me in its first words. I spent 10 days in Italy but this is the particular moment that will make me remember this trip forever. How magic is a song in our lives?

I'm from 2035...anybody heard of a song called THE CHILD by URBAN SEASCAPE?? It was a tiny little "Rocky/Bluesy track which was released about this time(at a recording cost of £50 and went on to be HUGE!!(and sure woke up the Music Industry)...some said "about the time THE CHILD by URBAN SEASCAPE hit the airwaves the only decent band were THE KILLERS...and folk were becoming sick of the same old sh*t...thank the heavens URBAN SEASCAPE arrived on Planet Earth...Good stuff"..one critic called John LaStrada left a comment on it saying that THE CHILD was "far, far better than the fluff that is offered by radio and commercial music hawkers"(...i came back to see where it all kicked off)...glad i found THE CHILD....THE KILLERS ARE AMAZING....guess i'd better hit the old Time Machine again...by the way, i keep reading about Donald Trump. Why does everyone seem so worried about it...DON'T WORRY AMERICA..it all works out ok.

The Killers are one of the best bands/sounds of the 21st century. They took alternative to a vibrant level that no one else has been able to accomplish. This song (as well as many others of theirs) is solid gold music making. Touches the soul.

I had thought they were just one of those overly poppy punk bands, but looking at their influences, and listening to their music, they really are alt rock. I think the only difference is that they embraced the pop aspect of music a little more than Radiohead or the Smashing Pumpkins.

The song is asking the question: Are we free, or are we subjects of society? Human means we can do what we want when we want. Dancer is referring to a puppet dancing on string. Having someone move you were they want you to go, thinking for you, and living our life like a routine that is all planned out. If you listen to the other lyrics you can see that dancer is actually referring to a puppet. "Cut the cord" or let us free is essentially what he is saying.

Flowers is irritated that people don't quite seem to get the lyric, and that fans were unhappy with the song's dance beat. "It's supposed to be a dance song, it goes with the chorus," he says. "If you can't put that together, you're an idiot. I just don't get why there's a confusion about it." - Rolling Stone Not so respectful and a bit of ego.

@DAMunzy⭕⃤☕ to be fair. A lot of music artists get irritated when their fans misinterpret their song. Some just a bit more aggressive than others. Sometimes the song is obvious Sometimes its not. This song wasn't that obvious so yeah.

No amount of time with a loved one, is enough. Quit everything so you can spend more time with them, especially when there's a cancer diagnosis. Forget about what the world seems to expect... for just a few months or a year or two... you'll catch right back up and you'll never regret it spending more time with a loved one.

I did my best to notice When the call came down the line Up to the platform of surrender I was broad, but I was kind And sometimes I get nervous When I see an open door Close your eyes Clear your heart Cut the cord Are we human? Or are we dancer? My sign is vital My hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human? Or are we dancer? Pay my respects to grace and virtue Send my condolences to good Give my regards to soul and romance They always did the best they could And so long to devotion You taught me everything I know Wave goodbye Wish me well You got to let me go Are we human? Or are we dancer? My sign is vital My hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human? Or are we dancer? Will your system be alright When you dream of home tonight? There is no message we're receiving Let me know, is your heart still beating? Are we human? Or are we dancer? My sign is vital My hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer You've got to let me know Are we human? Or are we dancer? My sign is vital My hands are cold And I'm on my knees Looking for the answer Are we human? Or are we dancer? Are we human? Or are we dancer? Are we human? Or are we dancer?

Agoraphobia left Robbie Williams housebound for three years: It took The Killers track "Human" to bring Robbie out of his funk - he reveals the lyrics to the song helped him get out of the house. "I remember listening to that Killers song and something in that moment made me think, 'I had better get my a**e in gear, put an album together and tour'," he said.
