For me the line that hits like a train is "Back then, this thing was running on momentum, love, and trust. That paradise is buried in the dust." The words alone are heart-wrenching, and the way they've been matched to the perfect vocals at that moment makes the emotion feel so raw

I drove through the desert last night. I carried the weight of our last fight. Elvis singing ‘Don’t be Cruel’ and I wonder if you feel it too. It’s like we’re going under. Somewhere outside the lonely Esmeralda County line, The question of my heart came to my mind: If I go on with you by my side, Can it be the way it was when we met? Did you forget all about those golden nights? Maybe if thieves stole your heart or maybe we just drifted apart. I remember driving in my daddy’s car to the airfield, Blanket on the hood, backs against the windshield. Back then this thing was running on momentum, love and trust. That paradise is buried in the dust. If I go on with you by my side, Can it be the way it was when we met? Did you forget all about those golden nights? (The way it was, it was.) All of our plans are falling through. Sometimes a dream, it don’t come true. Darling. Darling (If we go on can it be) Can it be the way it was when we met? Did you forget all about them golden nights? If I go on with you by my side, Can it be the way it was? My heart is true. Girl, it’s just you I’m thinking of. Can it be the way it was? +Christopher Riba A lot of people actually feel this way about The Killers. It's canon info that Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf, Midnight Show, and Jenny Was a Friend of Mine are all connected. The three songs are known as the murder trilogy. People speculate Mr. Brightside might be a part of it

Las Vegas is literally a REBELS and HOCKEY town now! Its unbelievable how big Hockey is in the city. You gotta actually live in the city to get a feel how big it is. The Raiders and even a NBA team would never be this big. Could be big for the visitors but it will never have the impact the NHL Knights has had onto the city. It's a massive success story! Ownership did everything right and they continue to do things BIG and the RIGHT WAY!

This song could easily have fitted like a plug inside of a plug-hole back in the 80's. I swear Brandon Flowers owns a TIME MACHINE and his obvious love and adoration for 80's music takes him for a cosmic ride back there where he finds some magic dust disguised as something back in those days and teleports himself back into modern time...and goes to work on songs...there's no other way. The songs are all so good. This is my favourite of all of THE KILLERS' songs....10/10.

I moved to Las Vegas just after high school. Some of the first friends I met were in a little town about an hour west of Vegas called Pahrump. I remember the first time I drove out to visit them. The view of the desert was so beautiful. Every shadow cast by every rock and every piece of sagebrush. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. It was like a little bit of magic. All of Southern Nevada is like a little bit of magic, from where the willows still weep on Charleston Avenue, to somewhere outside the lonely Esmeralda County Line. I'm convinced that this album cover is inspired by the drive back from Pahrump. A drive I've made countless times. Also this is The Killers' best album and it's not even close. If all the haters on Reddit had ever lived in Nevada and had any of their formative memories attached to it, they would see how obvious this is.

i don't think a band should be judged on how original it is, but on the music, the rhythm, the lyrics, and the sound itself. getting inspiration from other music is what every band/musician does. there is no band or musician that is fully original. not even the smiths. anyways that's just my opinion:)

I often listen to this song by my lonesome wishing things were the way it was. It's hurts so much but it's comforting in a way. I feel closer to them when this song plays. I used to listen to this song all the time years ago. I was at the time considering moving on from my relationship and this song would hit hard every time. Back then I would asked myself all the time: "if I go on on with you by my side you can it be the way it was...". In the end it didn't and it was over. It's just sad how we sometimes change in ways we don't want to, we stop feeling things we hold dear to ourselves. Some feelings you just can't control sometimes. This song still hits hard today and I guess it ever will.

i love this song.... its got that heartbreak melancholy of Roy Orbison... Runaways too and Miss Atomic Bomb... A great if slightly flawed album. Brandon said it should've been better but the guy is such a perfectionist. His could have been better is another artists career best... My favourite Moron ever!!!!

I drove through the desert last night I carried the weight of our last fight Elvis singing "don't be cruel" And I wonder if you feel it too It's like we're going under Somewhere outside the lonely Esmeralda county line The question of my heart came to my mind If I go on With you by my side Can it be The way it was When we met Did you forget all about those golden nights? Maybe a thief stole your heart Or maybe we just drifted apart I remember driving In my daddy's car to the airfield Blanket on the hood, backs against the windshield Back then this thing was running on momentum, love and trust That paradise is buried in the dust If I go on With you by my side Can it be The way it was When we met Did you forget all about those golden nights? (The way it was) All of our plans have fallen through Sometimes a dream, it don't come true Darling! Darling! If we go on Can it be (can it be) The way it was When we met Did you forget all about them golden nights? If I go on With you by my side Can it be The way it was My heart is true Girl, it's just you I'm thinking of Can it be the way it was? Maybe a thief stole your heart

The Killers, muito obrigado.

I can almost never pick favorite songs from any given artist - hands down my favorite. Holds a special place, because it came on as I was driving through the Mojave Desert trying to figure out what the heck to do about a relationship. I took it to be a sign to walk away, and I did - but blasted this song on repeat the entire rest of the drive. Night + desert + this song = out of body experience.
