back in the day when Heros of the storm was the big deal. Blizzard would put you in quitter's jail if you quit early. Until you finished x number of matches they would drop you in games with other players who also quite early. It was a good system.

I think leaving Australia unguarded would've sent a message for either red or purple to take it and leave you alone. But I think that you played in a way that was interesting, and made the content more valuable.

It also would have been keeping with Pete's idea of only take an early Aus if you seize the chance to upgrade from it at first opportunity. I didn't see that line and perhaps Pete was blinded by the rare split +4, but in hindsight I bet he'd admit it would have been a better play. I imagine red would have taken the Aus position and Purple would have consolidated Eu, leaving a black bot in Asia to be the secret sauce to spice up the game.

red was having a war with purple and black was a bot so the only person who could have gone war with pete was orange, the same orange who at the time was 35 to petes 50 and the same orange who was on 1 card while pete could have been on 2 after killing blue so both troop wise and card wise pete was ahead.

I absolutely understand the frustration, but I don't think orange did anything wrong. I think the thumbs down from orange was attempting to say "that thing that just happened was bad" as a way of commisserating, rather than being directed at you--i've seen other players use it that way.

How about: Kill blue Go all the way to india Single stack in india leaving everything open? You were dominant player by troops, you could affort some turns without any bonuses. Maybe noone would brake your australia. Noone would suicide into you. You give players bonuses to fight for. You can establish a new position in a better moment because of troop advantage

I’ve seen the AUS/SA position a few times. Without fail, someone always steals one of the two positions. It’s kinda fun, but there are multiple fatal issues: (1) the positions are so spaced out that it’s difficult to retaliate, and (2) the bonuses are small enough that the “stealing” player will feel confident they can defend it.

I wish I could go over the game I just played Pete! Took 3hrs and 30min to complete. Longest game I've ever played vs 6 ffa with alliances on. I teamed up with a master and had to play the shuffle around the board game the whole time until I saw my opportunity finally open up when players started to lose patience. It was beautiful man! I heard the evil chuckle when it happened lol. Thank you for the great insight you've been giving me through your videos. I go by Birt The Loyal and hope to play a game with you one day. I'm still a classic map player but I have tons of hours on it. Not a great win record I'm 280 out of 860 or something like that but getting better and better 😁

Blue player was the scumiest of scum with that bot out. Yesterday I played a 100+ minute ranked fixed game where a player botted bc of the stalemate only to come back after almost an HOUR of being a bot to try to steal Europe when the board finally shuffled. I instantly killed him & accepted 3rd. There was no way I was letting a player that walked away for over an hour get top 3 over the three of us that grinded out a huge stalemate with a massive bot to eventually a semi equal 3 player endgame. Sucked too bc I had spent a long time as the weakest player keeping the kill on myself just difficult enough that it wouldn't be possible while also slowly positioning & manipulating the 2 biggest players into addressing one another, only for that scumbag to try to jump back in and capitalize. After a certain amount of time you just shouldn't be able to rejoin I think, disconnection issues or not.

I actually got a 24 hour ban today i don't cheat or play with friends i had another player with a 150 at my 8 and they wouldn't finish the game so i just let the turn timer run out because they would just fortify thats the only thing i did that might fall under harassment. I think the South American Australia position isn’t worth the extra 2 troops cause there the 2 weakest furthest apart bonuses. But you still look really greedy for taking both early unless there is a bot or 2

I actually like the SA Auz 4 point if you can get it. It allows you to take cards out of Siam and makes it very hard for someone kill you. On the down side when first establishing it you can get attacked by noobs who don’t want you to have two continents even if your two add up to 4 bonus points and they are holding a 5 point Eu or N.A.

One of our communication options is, quite literally, useless.

The board responds viscerally in a negative fashion to greed just like many regular middle class people respond to greed. Here is orange with the stack lead, a 2.5X bonus lead over africa/australia; and the guy is trying to pull some low cunning move to graspy weasel out just one extra army the next turn? Risk is a game about math and odds, but for the top players its about playing to the real human emotions and I'm going to use the word pettiness and vengeance as examples here. If risk were a game like texas hold 'em, where there are real money stakes involved, every game would be like a texas hold 'em tournament. Someone raises and then its fold fold fold on the table. You would have 6 turtle players all 4 v 1 card swapping for hours. Games would go all day like a Cricket Test. The irrational play where the noob does something greedy and then gets punished by the entire board is one of the most delicious aspects of risk... until you realize that the noob being punished is probably some 11 year old boy playing during his school lunch time who has to wrap the game up and go back to class.

I have a thought... What if anytime you bot out, then however well the bot does, it does that much negatively to your rank? So, if you would jump ahead 1500 points because the bot wins, instead you would lose 1500 points? I also like the idea that if you bot out too much, you only get paired up with others who bot out.

Can't get a sandbox out of them, best bet is make your own game; haven't thought about it much, but options for simple strategy mechanics can't not exist. Long ago and far away, I worked in RPG game design and note there were a plethora of game mechanics developed for new games than and right up til now. Just a thought, I guess, but your options as players collectively appear to be put up with it or make your own thing.

I think, at times, depending on mood, you misclassify a player rank, which ripples on to miscommunication. I see it especially in your fog games; you with your superior spatial awareness, and your intermediate opponents ignorantly/accidentally signalling hostility. I read the thumbs down as Orange in an alliance with noone else, and simply sharing frustration with his in game friend.
