I love the strategy and planning behind your moves. I love how the noobs are so predictable. I love how you hunker down and wait in progressive. I really enjoy your narration too. I also watch and very likely won't ever play competitive risk. But watching competitive almost anything by a top player that commentates, gives insights into their thought process, and makes sure the audience understands what is going on, like you do is really engaging. I've been binge watching your content at night for the past couple nights. Random algorithm suggestions. I've only ever played Risk once table top. Well today I picked the game up and played my first game online. I lost, but still 🤣

Pete thank you very much for your constant insight on this game. I’m away from my family on a remote assignment in the military for 1yr and have 4 months left. I was getting super bored and was taking to alcohol more than I would like. Your videos have helped me pass the time and also have helped to get into this game. I’m a very competitive athlete but never found strategy games appealing, until now. When I first downloaded this game two weeks ago I just would go in guns blazing. The type you don’t like to play against cuz I would ruin other peoples games unbeknownst to me. I started off 1-22 and am now 48hrs in and my record is now 19-46 online. I still have a ways to go for Grand Master, just hit my Master rating but I’m loving the challenge and now I get mad at people that have no strategy like I once did. Don’t get me wrong though I will suicide into someone that ruins my game for no apparent reason, not afraid of that one bit. I play mostly Classic fixed cuz I have time to spare and the easiest map for me to get by on…I love holding NA as well but you do know that “No Aus No Win” 😂. Anyway sir this old man will get off of his soapbox now and finish watching all of your videos. Thanks for the company Pete, you are doing America proud from Canada!

Don't underestimate the interest of people to watch games they don't play, just look at how many people that watch sports but have no interest in playing the games themselves. It's always interesting to see high skill level play in any game!

The point is getting people to watch that would actually never really consider playing, but still like watching. (otherwise, the plateau is reached quite quickly, right?)

Risk especially your longer games are perfect to watch because I'm engaged in the early game and when it slows down to mid game I can start to fall asleep I also watch slay the spire for the same reason don't really play either But like your tournament games I watch those all the way threw I like serious Pete lol

I don't play risk and haven't for years, and I don't feel particularly inclined to either, but I always enjoy watching skilled players play hard games to a high standard and talk about it. I watch Chess and Rocket League streamers for the same reasons. I'm certain I'm not the only one.

Avid board gamer (ran a board gaming club, gone to Essen a number of time, met some designers and so on) who has minimal interest in playing Risk since I think there are lots of design issues that make it really unappealing once you start to dive into other games, but I really enjoy watching good players play it like this with good commentary regardless. So I agree with lots of other commenters, the target audience goes beyond people who want to play it themselves.

Well Pete, good news, ambiguous news, and bad news, up to you which is which. I am now addicted to the game, thanks to watching you play and listening to your commentary. Hey Pete I was wondering wouldn’t it be cool if you could set a troop to be a counter intelligence unit that if you kill that enemy unit it gives the player that hit them fog of war or prevent further blitz. Meaning moving that troop strategically to cause players to rethink hitting an easy one stack. Also the more players you hit increases the chance you will trigger negative effects to you units or play method.

Around 10:30 you said that you have "so many other things to do". What keeps you busy? I would assume that playing risk alone doesn't pay the bills but I would love to be wrong. You are the first Risk KZbinr or Streamer that I have ever become invested in and holy moly it would be great to know that you are seeing returns on all of this! 18:15 i did the exact same thing today :D on my like 5th ranked game i almost got my first win but completely forgot about the bot's mini-bigstack in australia, which i had just made myself neighbor to, then killed its EU and NA positions and forgot about the aussie stack :') converted my 1st place into a third place finish. very sad lol

I can see you're really doing everything you can to grow your online presence; which is impressive and I wonder how much time you spend on this. ( I assume 70+ hours a week) I would not have downloaded/bought the premium version of Risk had I not seen your channel. I thoroughly enjoy playing Risk (griefer moments excluded) and learning strategies. How are you able to keep your composure & keep a positive mental state as you do? Is it because you are aware people are watching you and you have a mental state that you are working?

I don't work that hard at all I mean I genuinely do enjoy responding to comments so that does take a decent amount of time each day but it's a pleasure mostly. I have a personal history with depression so it's of particular importance for me to keep a positive mental state intentionally at all times to avoid the risk of falling victim to my own natural tendency towards melancholy. The audience does help to some extent. I am not able to get away with being a prick because 100s of people will see. But that's a good thing. Watching myself is a great tool for self reflection.

The 'turn' of this game is when value of the cards start to outpace the value generated by holding board position. By moving into the corner, out of the middle and turning back on the fog to certain opponents I'm signalling that moment to the table. Players are then able to move through my former territory with minimal cost to me to make kills on each other.

Actually, about 6 months ago I got an email from twitch informing me that my account had received a lifetime ban for violating their terms of service (something about hate speech). The heuristics for Risk are a lot simpler than chess even though the game is much more complicated in terms of different board states.
