Red plays like I would. OCD extravaganza. Except I don't think I'd be stacking like he does lmao- Also, I wonder what others in these lobbies feel like when they see "Anonymous [Grandmaster]” On the end screen. Also do they see that if they quit? Cuz then I'm wondering if they feel "oh no wonder I lost", or more of a "of course I got matched against this". After all, to those at expert & below who don't have knowledge of the community, they'd probably see grandmasters as mountains far out of reach. You also once said that Grandmaster is the halfway point, so yeah that kinda further reinforces that. Then again the ranking system is BS so who knows. Some of those I've seen you play against in tournaments are only Intermediate or Expert at certain things, yet go toe-to-toe with top Grandmasters on occasion. All in all, if I were blue I'd feel gratified that I took second to a Grandmaster. Of I were red, I'd be incredibly frustrated. That is, without knowledge that I have as a viewer of this channel.

I'm expert rated and I am absolutely considering myself "dumb" in Risk. Calling someone a dumb player/dumb in a game is absolutely fine and acceptable bm in my opinion. The important thing is that one is able to critizise oneself as well in that regard... and when Pete failed a kill because of pathing issues in an earlier video, he absolutely ripped into himself with critizism. I prefer brutally honest people to people who put up a facade.

30:00 being dumb is OKAY, we're all dumb about a topic, subject, field of study, or video game. Red is dumb. Red being dumb (right now) is okay. Red will get better, and red will not be dumb in the future. So long as red doesn't want to be dumb anymore.
@connorskudlarek85989 ай бұрын
@@nix4110 his cap has 1 on it. If Pete viewed that stack as a threat (and most would), red loses his bonuses and his capital soon after. It's a very dumb play. Can you explain what in principle makes it a good play? I assume you mean the threat stack saying "break me and I kill you", that only works if there is only 1 threatening player. Playing that line on multiple players is like breaking 2 players bonuses. You've just ensured you lose, you don't win.
@connorskudlarek85989 ай бұрын
@@nix4110 I feel like you're ignoring the broader context of the game. At minute 7:00 is when red decided troops on the capital is a bad play. First bad decision that started this mess. At 9:20, red just craps all over the board. Rather than just hit the magenta bot inside his bonus before it grows. At 15:00, he could move the guard to an interior position that doesn't threaten yellow. Literally one position over. That threatening to yellow is proof positive you intend to be a bad neighbor in the future. Just haven't decided when. This ensures yellow can never go bad neighbor to green, because they'll be vulnerable on the red front. i.e., red ensure green and yellow remain BFFs with that play. Also means they don't have troops on capital. Which makes them an enticing player to hit from the North. At 18:10, he moves troops straight into an attacking position on yellow rather than defending cap. Yet again, clearly saying "I plan to hit you hard." At 20:45, he places his troops to kill orange and get a better board position. Reasonable. Now is a good time to depressurize with yellow and get some troops on capital. Yellow's generation lead on him just dropped. A threatening stack AND troop generation is a surefire way to get someone to attack you, since they know you're inevitably going to attack them. And then you just keep seeing the dumb play going and going. At 28:45 for instance, Pete could probably just set and slam into the North, break his bonus in the South, and probably take his cap. Then what? Guarantees red 4th if he slams into yellow in retaliation. It would at best put yellow in a slightly disadvantaged position. I just don't see how red's play gives him any winning chances. It's all losing. At least split the stack in the South as protection via shield. Or pull it back as protection through retaliation. But border stacking is a pure threat. It's very action ensures yellow can never fight anyone else, because they're already in a cold war with you.
@connorskudlarek85989 ай бұрын
@@nix4110 I don't really agree that Pete calling them dumb is because he was attacked. It's because the play was dumb. All the plays up to that play was pretty much dumb. And the eventual execution of the attack was also dumb. He'd been calling it dumb the entire game. Because it just is dumb. It took an hour before the strategy became decent. And that's just dumb. :P

At 1:10:40 Red should have taken Italy from the South with the 120 troops, move the 100 in Marseille against the 13 in the Alps, forget about Norway and reinforce from Scotland or Italy to Nalut. Maybe even attack the 282 troops there to weaken them first before reinforcing. Now it's a battle between Red and Yellow with Red producing more troops and the threat of Green over Yellow. Red would still have to deal with Blue, but considering Blue's playing style probably not much of a major threat there. Would have been a WAY more interesting game.
@maxt74499 ай бұрын

Great game Pete! Question for you: given TR dice _and_ the "intimidation" factor of one player's cap growing at a much faster rate than everyone else's, why didn't you start adding "interior guards" earlier in the round, and why did you leave spots w/only 1 troop even after you started hardening your territory? Am I missing something? I get wanting a large stack to attack when opportunity arises, but you also said "I want the status quo to continue for a long long time..." Wouldn't larger, more consistent interior guards have served the dual purposes of *making your territory much more dangerous to any attacker* while also keeping your main cap's troop count more in line w/ Green's and Blue's (reducing the risk of them thinking "this guy is HUGE, I have to smash him," and _thus perpetuating the status quo)?_ ...also, yes. I'm sure that if they could see you IRL then (regardless of how many troops you had on cap) they'd inevitably think _"this guy is HUGE, I have to smash..."_ But I'm trying to stay focused on Risk 😉❤
@TheKillPeteStrategy9 ай бұрын
I think the trade off here is the inditimidation of 'i don't wanna run my troops into a buzzsaw' vs the intimidation of 'i better not break him or he'll smack me with that massive stack' I think both are effective deterrents
