"If it falls your lot to be a street sweeper, sweep streets like Michelangelo painted pictures, sweep streets like Beethoven composed music, sweep streets like Leontyne Price sings before the Metropolitan Opera. Sweep streets like Shakespeare wrote poetry. Sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will have to pause and say: Here lived a great street sweeper who swept his job well."

"Don't allow anybody to pull you so low as to make you hate them." "Our slogan must not be 'burn baby burn' it must be 'build baby build!'" Don't hear this much anymore, unfortunately. He always kept his message positive and constructive.

Many use his "I Have a Dream" speech as their "go-to" Martin Luther King, Jr. speech but his message of the dignity of work makes this mine.

A standing O for Dr. King. Self-esteem. excellence and fighting for human rights. A prescription for all of us no matter what age, color, or class. And then to keep on moving no matter how slow the progress.

Feb 4, 2022: I wish Dr. King had visited Madison Junior High in ABQ when I was a student in the late 60s. (Thank you for encouraging me.....we all love you still. I agree with you 100%.) I was raised a Catholic and landed up at Liberty University! Still waiting for God to show me the purpose of three (3) master's degrees!? Blessings in the new year! Jeremiah 29:11

This speech is to encourage a person to start respecting himself and believe he can do whatever he/she sets their mind to do , however did he mention that Jesus is the only real help we get and we all need to focus our hearts and minds on the help and love that Jesus, our Almighty God gives freely to all people who ask Him...even this dummy writing this comment !
