If the machine can stand on its own and has rotatig parts you don't wear gloves. If you reach into a lathe without gloves it takes your finger. do it with gloves, it takes the rest of the hand with it. There's one rule that applies almost every time: A glove will tear when it shouldn't and when it should tear it'll hold up.

Less dramatically, I'm a person with very small hands, so finding gloves that fit well is extremely challenging. What I've encountered with ill-fitting gloves is that my grip absolutely disappears and I have absolutely no control over what I'm trying to hold, so thank you for helping prove the point I've been trying to make for years. Also, I've seen pictures of people who, while wearing gloves, just get their skin completely stripped from a finger because they were using tools inappropriately. As in, it looks like they're wearing a one-finger glove that's pattered to look like tissue.

I had a professor in in college tell us he had a student think the long curly chip coming off the lathe looked fluffy. So she grabbed it. For those of you who don't know, the chip on a lathe can be a long curled over thin piece of metal. And it does look fluffy. Down side is, its razor sharp, often serrated, and still spinning with the part in the machine.

Yes, wear gloves with circular saws, grinders, drills. Anything that isn't stationary, and I would argue to use gloves with a tablesaw if you're not using push sticks. Push sticks are the best, but if you like danger, put on some welding gloves and make sure the plate is in place and is a zero clearance or close to it.

Welder here, in the shop I learned most of my trade the general consensus was that it was better to have tthe sparks hit your hands and get minor cuts from that rather than get the glove caught in the angle grinder because it would rip all the skin down to the bone right off the hand( think surgical glove bunched up at the knuckle)

Tight fitting gloves with most tools are fine, those welding gloves you had on in the polishing a cast iron pan are definitely too loose. I have had a tucked in shirt get caught in my angle grinder while using a 36 grit sanding pad, I'm lucky that it turned parallel with my stomach because I only got a little road rash, but my supervisor had the same thing happen when the grinder kicked like mine, but he has the sanding pad cut into his stomach pretty deep.
