all the time, oblivious to the unknown pedestrians walking less than 12inch away from the off side of vehicle! It may be a ballistic vehicle, but a major headache could have been instigated if the intention was there! Why where the marked security so far away? Unknown vehicles in drop zone!? Also the magna carer is even older and again your constitution was copied from it. Our police while they have their issue are far superior to the US police. Better trained and we police by consent of the public and we don't need guns nor aggressive tactics and are trained to de escalate issue rather than make them worse. Look at how many UK shootings and knife incidents and injuries and deaths in police custody in the UK compared to the US and see who is doing it better!

the diplomatic and royal protection people are all fully armed and great at what they do. They are well trained and experienced. Everything from pressure points, how to 'floor' someone in 2 milliseconds, and how to shoot. They are not civilian guards like you see around the world in many places. They are all very well trained and experienced Government employees. These guys may say something, politely, just go with the flow and do it. Otherwise you might have a bad underpants day and end up arrested or worse if you have a weapon.

I saw the late Queen come out of Coutts opposite Charing Cross Road station in 2016. I'm from the Republic of Ireland and it was an odd shock: like us in minimal fuss and everyday concerns. The Monarch of the UK is the same as the President of Ireland: low-key and very very understated.

I’ve photographed members of the royal family on several occasions and they generally have 4 guards around them at all times. I’ve seen how they handle anyone who gets too close and it’s astonishing. With a big smile and the slightest press of the wrists they can remove anyone from the situation. Polite and extremely professional.

Impressive, top grade people. I had an uncle who served 27 years in the army, retiring in 1960 with the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major, and was then recruited as a Royal bodyguard though he never told anyone (including his wife) what his job was. Wasn't hard to figure out because where The Queen went, he went too ! No finer man ever walked this Earth.

That's not how royal security is done. Bodyguards for the royal family all come from the Police force as part of the Protection Command section of the Metropolitan Police, and specifically from the Royal Protection section. You don't just join it. You have to be in the police first and if he retired as an RSM then he's too old to join the Met and won't have ANY skills they need for an exception to be made.

Secondly, I would have thought that the first requirement was to find people whose loyalty and ability to behave to the highest standards was beyond question - qualities that my uncle had in spades ! You're correct about members of that unit coming from the police TODAY, but was it always so ? And how do you explain his movements matching those of The Queen and his secrecy about his role ?

@@garagenigel stop watching James Bond films, prince william has around the clock security called SEG (special escort group) who are either ex special forces or special forces trained and he / they carry a side arm, glock 17 to be precise not sub machine guns. The guy who opens the car door is part of prince William’s SEG not the guys closest to the camera, they would be part of ‘Protection command’ the metropolitan police’s specialty protection unit, RASP (royalty & specialist protection) work with the royal family & government officials and the other security group are PADP, they provide security for members of parliament and diplomats.

Very polite security guard...but... would he really have the skills to take down someone who tries to get past him? Secret Service guys look much tougher, just like US military does.
