Well , I must say that this video, has really helped me out, like many I built the pond , not thinking about an overflow when it was all finished, and we had heavy rain, it overflowed above the liner and below the top tiles, I am going to build one today and hopefully I will be able to buy the N/R Valve and air line locally if not on line many thanks for the help well appreciated your video's are 5 ****** thank you . best Regards Bryan Medway

Thanks so much for this video. I've a new house with a pond and a very similar type of DIY overflow. But there are pipes missing and it doesn't work. It hasn't got the holes and air pipe. I've now got a pond maintenance project for tomorrow to fix it 🙂.

Cool idea, my issue is my pond is dug in the ground and only 2 sleepers are showing about the ground... I'm probably going to try and making a smaller version and hopefully it'll keep a syphon

Yes if you have fresh water trickling in to it all the time as I made it for a trickle in trickle out system and its good when it's raining all the time

Brilliant. You should really not hand your string lights by the cord. It’s a fire hazard. Says right on the package. Get some chain to hang them from. Cheap and safe.

Hi, good video, I have made a diy overflow system but made it out of 32mm push fit waste pipe, at first it kept stopping but found that there wasn't a good enough seal on the suction pipe, fixed that and now works all the time but only tricle, but I do have 8M of pipe to the drain, do you think this is correct? feed back from anyone greatly appreciated, TIA

Hi I use 1.5" pipe and it works a treat I flows quite nicely in to my Qt vat then the Qt vat has a overflow then it goes to wast but I fine the 1.5" a good size

Plus the 1.5" coups we'll when it rains as well as my trickle system my hole pond tuns over every 12/14 days it's hand a complete new water refill in 12/14days wish works very well with me unless I add medicine then I tune of the trickle system off then turn on after the required number of days

It's to put a piece of standard fish tank line in to start the flow going so water can leave the pond you need a none return value to keep the flow going or it will stop

Why I think of it why can't you just put a normal overflow in after the pond is built . It's a wooden pond so am I missing something. Can you not just drill through and put a normal overflow pipe in ? Thanks for any reply .

Yes just a cheap none return value but make sure you can suck though it when installed on the over flow make the over flow system to fit our pond if you need help or advice just ask we have a facebook group as well cheers TKP

It needs a none return value on it to stop any air getting in after priming it if air gets stuck back in it will stop the flow it will be ok you just need the none return value cheers THEKOIPOND

So I have built this overflow and once primed it works fine but as soon as the level reaches the top of the overflow pipe in the pond it just cuts out and then the level in the pond starts to rise again as I trickle in and it won't start again unless I prime it again?

U need a a non-return valve to stop any air getting in to it

If your trickle in is very slow you may not notice it trickling out of the overflow my one stop if not enough water but only drips out as water gets higher you got a video with it working and stoping and see how you have made it
