The thing with man of steel is that if he doesn’t kill zod, zod would have gone on to kill millions of more people. He would not have stopped. Clark had no choice but to kill him in that moment, and the fact that it goes so much against his morality, he cried out in utter anguish after. I loved that zod dying scene.
@bobsilentjay76119 ай бұрын
I really don't get why people are so against that. Zod made it clear what he'd do if Superman let him live. Way more people would be dead. As in, billions.

@Jal24469 ай бұрын
that last segment on Synder and your critiques of superhero movies is gold, its stuff that people were either thinking or at least we subconsciously knew, which could be a factor on why the DCEU didn't resonate with a broader audience. Superman lets thousands die, but kills Zod for a family of three, now I can't get that thought out of my head on Man of Steel. Also, Coy needs to expand on that Bryan Singer made mutant movies but never made an Xmen movie.
@garyhutchinson79089 ай бұрын
How did Superman let thousands die? He was literally Superman for a day, out numbered without no training expected to fight against Kryptonians that were military trained from birth. Also if you watch the movie you'll hear Faora tell him "for every human you save we'll kill a million more" The last words he literally says to Zod is stop twice and Zod replies "never" leaving him no choice.
@bobsilentjay76119 ай бұрын
He "let thousands die???" When? In the movie I saw he was fighting Zod with everything he had. And he'd only been Superman for, what, 36 hours AT MOST? Going against a lifelong warrior and military commander? In order to make this argument, you literally have to selectively omit so much relevant shit from that movie.

1 - Take a break. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." 2 - Hire creatives who have experience and let them cook 3 - Limit the amount of content per year. I personally think they should also stop the Disney + shows entirely b/c it isn't rly working for most people 4 - let the creatives make good quality films that are DIFFERENT from the Marvel formula 5 - Stop worrying so much about the future. Focus mainly on individual, standalone movies that are great. Start doing more interconnectivity when people are starting to care more about the movies
@zaneplatt35339 ай бұрын
I agree with you on everything except the 3rd point. They really need the Disney+ shows to be very different, instead of just an extension of the existing MCU tone and story. It is why stuff like Daredevil and The Punisher worked the best. They already seem to be going down this road with the revamps to Daredevil, Blade and seemingly The Punisher.

As a fan of the MCU from the start - the 1st 11 years and the 1st 23 films had just a handful of 'duds'. Maybe 3 or 4 that weren't as well-written or directed vs the other 20. Watched Civil War & Guardians 1 again over the weekend and they are stellar films in terms of action and dialogue. So is Winter Soldier, GOTG, Ant-Man and all the others. After the finale of Phase 3 and the disruption of the Pandemic, the MCU simply failed to set up another run of 'must-see' films. As you've said, part of the appeal of those first 3 phases was the connectivity and the story-lines, not to mention the actors developing those MCU characters. Losing RBJ's Iron Man as the glue left a void they've yet to fill. MCU just needs to get back to epic story-telling onscreen, even as they set up Fantastic Four and the next Avengers films. Stop making movies by committee and social media feedback and give control to someone who has a vision for what the original 20+ films captured, our imagination. We don't have super hero movie fatigue, we have bad / the same movie fatigue. Cheers.

When it comes to Snyder's comments, I can kiiinda agree in the sense that you wanna test the morality of the character. To his credit, Snyder did establish his version of Batman was a 20+ year veteran of the crime fighting, had lost a Robin, and had admittedly become very jaded and cynical about what he was doing; to the point where yes: he does kill. While that's not a version I personally identify with, as I ride for the Batman who doesn't kill; I can ride with THIS particular version because of the back-story they gave him. Where he lost me though was that he never really changes that, even after "seeing the light" in Superman, and realizing the error of his ways. But then again, as Coy says: it's an Elseworlds tale. If this was presented as Zack Snyder's DC Universe, then okay we can more easily accept it as its own thing. But since it was presented as DC's answer to the MCU, which very much was trying to create the definitive versions of these characters on screen, then yes, there's a problem. That being said, the backlash to Snyder having a Batman who kills was still somewhat overblown to me. Why doesn't anyone level criticism to Tim Burton and his version of Batman, who straight up murdered people in those first two movies, and did so with a smile on his face. This Batman strapped a bomb to a clown, smiled at him, punched the clown into a hole, and walked away as the bomb explodes. And yet 30 years later, Burton's Batman is "the definitive" Batman. Yeah, you can say it's the 90s and no one cared, but Batman's no-kill policy has been a staple for a long time. Maybe Nolan helped popularize it because his movies eventually became definitive in their own right, I can't possibly fault Snyder for wanting to do something different with Batman, when Burton is celebrated for having a Batman who kills, a Joker who killed the Waynes, a Penguin who's literally a bird man, and a Catwoman who was brought to life by cats. I don't think Snyder was the right guy to shepherd a definitive on-screen Superman, let alone an on-screen DC Universe, but I do feel he got shat on for some pretty hypocritical reasons when it came to Batman.

12:30 Coy has a good point about Blade. People online pretend like Blade is a massive deal but the reality is that the original Blade trilogy was never a huge money-making franchise. Those movies are basically cult films, the fans love them but the critics were split on them. If you want further proof, the highest-grossing Blade film was Blade 2 and do you want to know how much that movie made? It made 155 million which is less than Morbius’ 167 million. Yup, that’s right. Freaking Morbius did more money than the biggest Blade movie. So I don’t understand why people are ignoring that fact. Let’s not pretend like those movies were huge box office hits.

You need to adjust those films for inflation especially since they were made over 20 years ago and you forget they had small budgets even for back then. Blade 1 made 131 million on a 45 mill budget . @1:09:39. This be the most disingenuous excuses, to hate Zack Snyder's films. The fact that we were dealing with an older Batman was the point. He was an older, more jaded Batman. The literal citing of The Dark Knight comic book as inspiration suggested that. In the film, he looks at Robin's costume, which hinted Joker killed Robin. How much more on the nose could Snyder have gotten, and you still missed the point. Bruce even tells Alfred, "We were ALWAYS criminals..." The reason is that just being a vigilante is breaking the law... Bruce had been broken. The point in which you wanted Bruce to redeem himself was the infamous "Martha," scene, which for some reason, didn't land well with the audience. I feel like you guys are reaching for excuses to hate on Zack when, just like the writers of the comics, ALL do their interpretations of these characters. And let's get this "Batmn kills" thing to bed. Y'all act as if Batman just "murdered" ppl, and he did not. Those that used deadly force got met with it. If you died, you died... again... Zjust being a vigilante, as Batman stated... "Alfred, we were always criminals. "

I think Blade should be moved to Febuary of 2026. Edit: Ok cool! Winston agrees, lol.

I think if there's any project that gets pushed back next year, it's Blade. It's already faced a bunch of BTS stumbles, pushing it back further is the most likely route, considering the current state of the MCU. The MCU has been very hit or miss, there's no denying it; even for someone like me who still enjoys this stuff. I do think that Iger is on the right track in terms of having to bite the bullet and just nix a whole bunch projects that either weren't coming along as well as they hoped, or stuff that seems superfluous. Tho I still think there's some revisionist history when it comes to the Infinity Saga. Phases 1 and 2 were very hit or miss. Each phase consisted of 6 films. 12 in total. If we're being real, only 4 of those movies were honestly celebrated and held in high regard (Iron Man, The Avengers, The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy). I think the reason why the L's feel so much more impactful now is because A.) we're coming off a Phase 3 where we legit had a STREAK of hits, even with some stumbles... and B.) There's just way too much content to consume both on TV and movies. Regardless of whether things overtly connect or not, I think the fact that there was too many projects greenlit, Feige was spread thin, and the studio itself didn't prep for TV the traditional way, just made certain projects falter in the writers room and on the CG front. Beginning with Deadpool and Wolverine, the MCU needs to have that streak again. It'd be nice if DP/Wolverine is followed up by a successful Cap 4, but if i"m being honest, the rewrites and reshoots (while normal for a film in general) make me wary... I hope to be proven wrong. Because even just a two-hit streak in a row beats the "one good, one bad, one good" record in the public and fan perception.

Zod tried to terraform the Earth and killed hundreds of thousands of people. Superman was absolutely justified in killing him and I couldn’t believe people were so upset by it.

Factz!!! Also ppl act like Superman chose to destroy the buildings and didn't care about their lives. Like he did his best to save all those lives in that Smallville town
