It's CMC. He's the one who made them into an offensive juggernaut even with Jimmy G under center. This year he held out to get paid (setting up a bad precedent for BA & Trent) because he knew he had 2 bad achilles. Now that he's recovered, he's not taking himself out when Bobby Turner tries to sub in Mason or Guerendo and he's hurting the running game. He really should be a 3rd down back, but the contract they gave him doesn't allow Kyle to do that.

Kyle is the reason. He played his favorites, Deebo being one of them, and NEVER held him accountable. Because of that, Deebo NEVER developed or progressed on his skills like route running, route concept discipline in the overall play call, effort if the ball wasn't going to him, personal fitness, and blocking. Then he tries to tell a kicker that was struggling to lock-in & figuratively kicking the man when he was down, while Deebo himself was failing just as much in the same game. In 2023, Deebo had 892 receiving yards and 7 receiving touchdowns. Deebo had 225 rushing yards and 5 rushing touchdowns. All together, 1,271 all-purposee yards along with 12 touchdowns in 2023. In 2024, Deebo has 490 receiving yards and 1 receiving touchdown. Also, 79 rushing yards with 1 rushing touchdown. Deebo does the dirty work. He's used as a wide receiver, running back, and punt returner..

I have to disagree with you, Larry. You're comparing players who touched the ball 20+ times a game at RB to one who MIGHT touch it 10 times. The simple fact is Deebo got paid and lost his edge. He's always had weight problems in the offseason. It's not a coincidence that he had his best season in his contract year. He looks fat for a receiver. Most receivers decline around age 30, but if you're consistently overweight, it's going to expedite the decline. It's as simple as that.

The team's last time to win the SB was last year as the players are either hurt or not playing up to their abilities. This is because Kyle and Lynch didn't refresh with younger players in key positions and gave up too much for Lance who still hasn't played in a game. Teams run in cycles and the Niners are on the downside of the top as it's how the NFL system is setup, and you have to have really great management to be able to draft players that will quickly get to start the upside in the cycle. Lynch has allowed the up cycle to last too long and so the crash is coming.

I agree that a lot of the name players have reach their crest or have passed on to some level of descent. Although injuries, especially knee injuries, can occur at any point in the age cycle of a footballer, the number and variety normally increase with time. This season seems to reveal a kind of middle-age angst, especially a painful sadness, in Papa Kyle. He needed to take the same cast to the Superbowl in 2025 and win. Last year was a fluke. A fumble or missed block prevented 49ers' Superbowl win. This time would be different! And it truly was. No-shows. Hold-outs. And injuries, injuries, injuries. Rather than holding on to promising rookie o-line prospects, such as Jarret Kingston and Drake Nugent, Kyle risked them on waivers. The Panthers took Kingston, but Nugent was retained. Kyle did this because he didn't want to risk the magical team of 2023 that went to the Superbowl. Parts of the magic, which might have been put on waivers instead of Kingston and Nugent, were Ronnie Bell and Kyle "Juice" J., as well as Patrick Taylor. I suspect that Kyle is becoming more superstitious with age, as he focuses on the Superbowl. Therefore, for the sake of the team, Kyle should remove himself entirely from player personnel decisions and focus on innovative offense. He should tell John Lynch, "Find me another Bobby Beathard." [Washington Redskins personnel director at the time of Joe Gibbs.] All the issues arising around the 49ers this year have to negatively affect Kyle's concentration on offensive schemes for 2024 and offensive tactics for any given game. Bringing in Staley as a redundant coach was a puzzler, but bringing in a gifted personnel director would make good sense.

Let’s be real every team knows when Kyle’s calling the jet sweep with deebo, it’s so obvious, it ain’t working anymore. Deebo still has made explosive plays and has been injured a few times but the 49ers just ain’t clicking this year

One thing they can do to test this is have other players do the same plays Deebo runs, like the end around stuff. If his other teammates aren’t also getting any success, then we can assume it’s more than Deebo… you’d have to see how the players involved are executing them… or we can assume Kyle’s plays have been adjusted to by opposing DCs.

Anquan Boldin and Hines Ward were power players and they aged like wine. Deebo never got better as a route runner and he doesn't stay in shape. Those are his issues which are self inflicted.

This is why we needed to win the Super Bowl last year and why after that loss I was absolutely gutted more then the previous Super Bowl loss with this squad. Deep down I knew that was the peak for this team.

I do love the comparisons. The only problem/counter-point is that Deebo does not have the same usage rate that running backs do. I do agree that he looks a step slower. But I think the biggest factor is that he also has a big tell: When a play is called up for him, he goes a different speed pre and post snap. When he goes that different speed it’s very obvious to the defense, especially if they’re high IQ that he is going to be getting the ball. No hate, it’s just a trait for him to pay attention to. He either needs to go harder more plays or dial back the extra pep in his step and explosive movement until it’s time to get some separation when his number is called.

They also need to adjust the play calls for deebo.. Let him run routes like anquan bolden. Post him up in the middle of the field let him get north and south.
