As a kid, I got transplanted from the abundant fishing grounds of Minnesota to the rather artificial, planted (read this as "welfare trout") fishless and overpopulated terrain of southern California. I sure miss those summer days catching all the species you showed, from a small boat with a 5.5 hp Johnson outboard to simply a dock, or even the shore. We did do some ice fishing, but had nothing like the technology you showed here. Back in "the day" a guy with an auger drilled a hole in the ice for us (I'm sure Dad paid him), we put our backs to the wind, and we fished. Thanks for the memories, GREAT video!

yeah it sucks fishing here in california unless you go to the shore. They used to stock a reservoir every summer until some environmental groups stopped them for some reason or the other, but everytime they did, the dam along the reservoir would be filled with people until there was no place to fish there, and within a couple of days, there would be hardly any fish left between the fishermen and birds.

My condolences regarding South California freshwater fishing. I grew up where ranches had small dams to catch winter rains for the livestock. My father had a copy of the county Soils Survey where soil types were delineated on black and white aerial photos. I would look for dull gray patches with one straight edge, which would be the dam. If practical I would ride my bike there because most involved trespassing, and hiding a bicycle is easier than hiding a pickup!

The ultimate irony of California: they preach environmentalism and protection of wild spaces, yet consistently destroy and eraticate wilderness in favor of water for a Population that would better benefit from desalination and not living in a fucking desert, water for farms that destroy unique wildlife areas, dams that destroy river systems, introduction of COUNTLESS invasive species of all varieties, and most of this is because of the state government itsself. The irony!
