Of all the numerous hebrew lessons on line, I enjoy yours the most by far. Thanks T'helah. Your lessons are clear, detailed, well illustrated, slow and thorough coverage with superb excercises at the end of each lesson to reinforce and ensure material well understood. You are a fabulous teacher and if I lived in Isarel I would want you as my personal teacher! Best wishes for continued and well deserved success. כל טוב מאוד

Thank God for your videos. I have been teaching myself Hebtew for 20 years, but mostly by listening to discs and reading. Congugating verbs has always been my sticking point, and has kept me severly limited. It has been very frustrating...until now. Thank you so much! Eager to learn more about your lessons in every form.

Thelah B. your teaching ability is superb. Thank you for your gift. Are you able to share from where you have such knowledge of Hebrew? It sounds as though you are from Israel. I am new to the language for six months I have been attempting to learn the Binyanim for three weeks and I found it very difficult. You have made it so very easy because you are extremely organized and there seems to be an order by the way you teach. You definitely have a foreign flare outside of the USA. Again thank you. Toda!

Thank you yet again, great to have these videos. I have a couple questions regarding the relationship between the infinitive, the root and the binyanim themselves. Does a given infinitive belong to a given binyanim? And if so, how do I know which one?
@ThelahBenDan
@ThelahBenDan 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching & subscribing! To answer your question, the same root is often present in verbs in more than one binyan, but each infinitive belongs to only one binyan. For instance the verb meaning "to eat" and "to feed" have the same root, but "to eat" is a paal verb whereas "to feed" is a hif'il verb. You can usually identify the binyan of a given infinitive by it's sound and/or letter pattern.
@KlausBioMadsen
@KlausBioMadsen 6 жыл бұрын
Righto. Maybe you could talk about more about identifying which binyan a given infinitive belongs to in the next video? I am not sure I completely understand how I am supposed to figure that out. Cheers

When you give an excercise and words are involved without vowels, especialy when the word contains b or v sound could you not say the word in a clear way so we can differenciate between the letters.

Shalom T’helah I noticed that you read shoresh always vocalize with a a. Is it a general rule how to read shoresh. Thanks for another great video.
@ThelahBenDan
@ThelahBenDan 3 жыл бұрын
Shalom, paal/qal verbs are vocalized with the a sound, but there are different sounds for each binyan. The names of the binyanim generally follow the vowel pattern of the verb in the 3rd person masculine past tense, i.e. "he ___," which is the same as the root. Some paal examples: achal (he ate), bara (he created), matsa (he found). Some piel examples: bishel (he cooked), kibel (he received), bikesh (he requested).

How can I know when this letter (כ) is pronounced as J or K! thank you very much
@ThelahBenDan
@ThelahBenDan 6 жыл бұрын
If it has the dot in the middle (called a dagesh), it has the hard K sound; if not, it's the J sound like in Spanish (or the guttural "ch" sound like Bach).
@arnodolisandro
@arnodolisandro 6 жыл бұрын
but in the day to day it is written without points, only in texts for children there are daguesh.
@ThelahBenDan
@ThelahBenDan 6 жыл бұрын
Knowing how to pronounce words without vowels comes with time, the more you read and the more your vocabulary grows. If it's the first letter of a word, it will be the K sound. If it's the last letter (chaf sofeet), it will be the Spanish J sound. If it's in the middle, then you'll need to rely on your knowledge of the word (or look it up if it's unfamiliar to you).
