Love the design of this model, nice and chunky. Only knew the janky bending version existed.

Did not even hear about the SuperVision or the TravellMate! This was a cool video to watch! Thanks for Sharing! Huge Hand Held Fan now i'm curious what else it out there!

With the modern handhelds we have these days, with some brilliant emulation, we are truly spoiled as adults who want to revisit our childhoods.

Really only know this handheld from UK people and youtubers so it always looked interesting to me. Certainly it has its issues but they tried. I too believe there's a little homebrew scene, at least it seems like someone made a homebrew port of GameBoy Tetris for it.

The direct Game Boy competitor that tried; the Watara Supervision continues to intrigue me. Looking forward to what you have to say in such a lengthy video like this one. 0:50 - I mean, you released a video yesterday... and the day before... and two videos before that. Honestly, a video once a week is impressive enough. If you need to rest, you need to rest. Community Notes and the like can easily inform viewers that you need a break to recover. 2:15 - Wait, the folding one was the original one? I always the Game Boy looking one was the original and the folding neck one was made to make the Supervision more different from the Game Boy. How odd they would remove such a distinct part of it's design like that. 6:10 - This one mention of Quickshot really sent you down a rabbit hole of gaming history. Gosh, that could be a video in of itself. 7:28 - So it was the 3DO of it's day? 10:09 - Batteries do tend to add a feeling of weight to a system... and I love it. It's why I'm glad the Xbox controllers continue to support batteries. So much more comfortable to hold a controller when you can feel it's existence. 12:46 - Yes, I recall that as well. I think there was 4 or 5 companies that made games for the Supervision in the end. An given as you say it was number 4 in the UK when it came to handhelds, it makes sense that one of them would be a British studio. 15:25 - Likewise, can just about see it. The images are quite clear... provided they aren't in motion. 16:52 - Aside from how how the shooting keeps cutting out the music, the game otherwise had quite a tune. Easy to hear and quite an energetic vibe. 18:59 - So between Gamate and Supervision, which do you think is better? From a quick look, it seems the Supervision managed to outsell the Gamate, despite being on the market for only half the time (though admittedly, I can't find a date for when the system was discontinued). 24:46 - I don't know what Game Boy game you are referring to it, but I swear I've seen this type of racer before for the various microcomputers. Despite being in motion, there's a lot less blur with this game.

I have only played on the Gamate once and that was in like 1991, so I couldn't really give an honest opinion there. Most people believe this is better. Motocross Maniacs is pretty similar to the Kikstart games that Mastertronic did for home computers, probably those you are thinking of.

@@TheLairdsLair Having a quick search and those Kikstart games look familiar, so it must be it. Probably also saw it in a Retrogamer magazine article.

I remember really wanting a quickshot supervision after seeing one in my local computer shop running Pang. The bendy form factor looked really cool but I've still never played one to this day. I had a GameGear and MasterGear converter so in retrospect I had it much better but at the time I would've probably swapped them for a quickshot 😂

I have the hinged version of this. I pleaded for a gameboy, but this was what my mum bought for me. I have crystball, grandprix and alien for it.

I remember Quickshot! They were great controllers when they were first introduced in the US (Nes- 1986/1987'ish). They did very well for themselves until mid 4th generation (Genesis vs. Snes 1992/1993'ish) where their quality started to dip. By the beginning of the 5th generation here (1995/1996), they really started scraping the bottom of the barrel. It got so bad MadCatz overtook them, and they just sort of disappeared. MadCatz had a few decent controllers (their flipping/turning) Ridge Racer controller was very cool. If I remember correctly, it was the only version of that controller we ever saw here. Sony had an official one, but I've never seen one in the wild. I have never heard of this handheld in any form.
@TheLairdsLair19 күн бұрын
Yeah Quickshot definitely lost their way after the early 90s, back in the mid-eighties pretty much everyone I knew had them.
@Sinn010019 күн бұрын
@TheLairdsLair Same, accept for me and you! I never got into getting different controllers for my consoles (mouse and keyboard for PC). Most consoles always have had decent to outstanding controllers. I even thought the Jaguar had an okay controller for 1994 (the pad and action buttons). When I was a kid, I figured... I could get a new-fangled controller or a game, and that choice was easy. Addendum - The only extra controllers I ever bought when I was a kid was two 6-button pads for Street Fighter II on the Genesis (that was a necessity). Other than that, I didn't start really buying 3rd party controllers until I was purchasing my own games and consoles (1999). Then it was, do you want to pay for food or buy a 1st party Dreamcast controller? At times, it was a difficult proposition because the MadCatz DC wide controllers were like trying to play a game with an alarm clock from the old Soviet Union.

The terrible music on that Tetris clone is a slightly hookky copy of that from World 1 iin Gameboy Super Mario. Cheeky! Interesting to see this demoed, kid at my primary school had one that he played a lot at break times but he would never let anyone else touch it or even get particularly close to him, so it remained a significant mystery for all those years since. Funnily I think it had a pink theme to the buttons and trim (or at east magenta), rather than the turquoise seen here? (Folding screen version of course, for extra "wtf is that" points) I think this would definitely benefit from some kind of frontlight kit, though at least it doesn't need a magnifier.

Hi Kieran great video in the Supervision, I have the exact same model which I picked up in Spain. I used to have the UK Quickshot version until it broke. I'd say the best games on the system are three not in your collection which are Tennis Pro 92, Olympic Trials and Grand Prix.

You must have missed it when I was going through the games but I have Tennis Pro 92 and Olympic Trials, I just didn't play them in the video.

Take care, mate! I have one of these The one with the actual d-pad 4th best handheld. lol. I think this was the actually the only fourth handheld left. pc engine gt perhaps, but that was never released in Europe Supervision, the destroyer of ears. It is so horrible. Almost like they tried to make it as horrible as possible. or these were more like pd demo's never menat to be released and the some said: "|it has sound, you fly tiy can shoot enemies, you can die: RELEASE IT!"
