Doesn't really count as it was in the latest instalment of Despicable me, but "Everybody wants to rule the world" by Tears For Fears was an iconic 80s theme in and of itself.

A good list. Also like to mention 'Neverending Story' (1984) by 'Limahl', from the movie of the same name. Also 'Together in Electric Dreams' (1984) by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder (this guy was everywhere in the 1980s), from the similarly titled movie 'Electric Dreams'. Also 'Chariots of Fire' (1981) by Evangelos Papathanassiou (known professionally as Vangelis), from the movie of the same name.

Not on this list. 1 Fast Times in Ridgemont High. Jackson Browne and Sammy Hagar have songs 🎵 I like. 2 Hard to Hold. 40 years 🎂 in 2024. Rick Springfield wrote and sang a few songs. 3 Teachers. Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance as a duo wrote 2 songs. 40 years 🎂 in 2024. RIP Joe Cocker, who died 10 years ago abd sang Edge of a Dream, written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance. 4 A Night in Heaven. Bad 👎 movie 🎥. But, Obsession and 2 songs written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, as a partnership, were the highlights. 5 Heavy Metal. Bay Area musicians Journey and Sammy Hagar performed. 6 Vision Quest. 7 Two of a Kind. 8 Tron. Songs of Journey were in these 3 movies. 9 Summer Lovers. Chicago and The Pointer Sisters had songs near the end of the movie. 10 Karate Kid. Bananarama had a song. 40 years 🎂 in 2024. 11 A View to a Kill. Parts filmed in my hometown San Francisco 🌉. Only James Bond song to reach Number 1 in Billboard.

Underrated. David Foster is the producer. He is 1 of the writers. He is also the co-writer for Hard to Say I'm Sorry and Glory of Love. Foster wrote some popular songs for 1980s movies.

The theme from Superman by John Williams cannot be forgotten. Although we have rather grown accustomed to the theme, it is important to remember that every superman movie or TV show that preceded it was mundane and archaic in comparison.

The soundtrack that I expected to be in this list is the one from Ghostbusters. Ray Parker JR even got an Oscar nomination for it. It should have been mentioned at least.

Maybe because he stole the music for the title song from Huey Lewis song “I want a new drug”. He even asked them to use the same sound, but they said no and he did it anyway and eventually had to give publishing credit to Huey.

Ferris buelllers day off, any time you here Yello's 'oh yeah and it's boom boom, chicha, chicha you just have to smile. Also Planes trains and automobiles, Paul Young's every time you go away really hits the heart to the sadness behind John Candy's character.

Eye of the Tiger should be higher in the list. I think more timeless than Footloose, or Danger Zone. Fame by Irene Cara as well, since that movie came out in 1980. Raiders of the Lost Ark came out in 1981…and that theme is epic.
@jeffreywillstewart4 күн бұрын
Lost Boys was really good soundtrack. and has a Roger Daltrey covering 'Don't Let The Sun Go down on Me" over the end credits which is fun since Elton made Pinball Wizard a hit.

5:25. Purple Rain 🌂. The late Prince recorded some songs in The Record Plant in Saucelito, north of my hometown San Francisco 🌉. 40 years 🎂 ago, he called 📞 Jonathan Cain of Journey because he (Prince) thought he plagiarized Faithfully. Cain listened and said No. Prince felt relieved 😌. Thus, he released the title track Purple Rain. 6:00. Top Gun. Danger Zone. Kenny Loggins is negotiating with Georgio Moroder on credits. This is different than what happened 40 years 🎂 ago with Ghostbusters 👻. Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr and Paramount for plagiarizing I Want a New Drug, a hit song 🎵 in the previous year, 1983. The settlement is out of court.

not bad, I agree on purple rain, the whol;e movie is powerful, I was in college and we all thought it would be a hirrible self expression nonsense but we left the theatree humbled by his power. I dont agree with most of this list...it focused too much on an individual song vs the soundtrack in entirety. Footloose and Dirty Dancing easily the best soundtracks as a whole, with Top Gun behind it. If you look at individual songs from a soundtrack, while mentioned, Survivor's Eye of the Tiger would be #1 in my book. Chariots of Fire, Who's Johnny, Bad Boy, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now.

I'm giving you a down vote; not because of the movies you chose, but rather you only focused on ONE SONG that made these soundtracks. I feel that, if you had focused on the soundtracks as whole, and not JUST the popular songs from them; this list would be quite different. For this reason alone, I thumbs downed this video.
