A voice that can and has never been replicated, it is unique to say the very least. He could not have chosen anyone more special than Alison, she is beautiful beyond imagination, a beautiful voice and her gift she has passed on and shared with us all. What greater gift can anyone give in songs from the soul and her heart. A gift in Alison that she has chosen to share with us all with her magnificent voice. I wish I could say that I listened to her attentively before 1995's "When You Say Nothing at All" came out, but I barely noticed her before that. I did adore her duo with Shenendoah "Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart" and her earlier release of "I've Got That Old Feeling." I remember liking both of those songs (and videos) a great deal but not to the same level of "When You Say Nothing at All" which moved me enough to raid every record store and buy a copy of all of her stuff (in the process discovering some phenominal early stuff that cemented my affinity for her). I think you had to be steeped in the bluegrass world (regionally or culturally) to have had exposure before that because she just didn't get airplay outside of that world which is a shame given how great her earlier self-titled/headlined stuff is! I also have to thank Alison for including her bluegrass picks cd in one of her albums and exposing me to some great stuff I was unaware of at the time.
