This was brilliant and great that Nev could stay off camera. Easy to forget that these are highly personal and not everyone wants to advertise what they have. Being allowed to see the collection but not the owner is perfect as we want to see the cars. Jonny has that difficult knack of not saying too much and allowing the owner to speak. Car caves and barn finds are the best.

Dutchman Willy Mosselman made some incredible turbo kits for Benzes. I remember reading an interview with him in a Dutch car magazine (Autovisie). His filosophy was to keep the compression ratio high and use low turbo pressure. This way the efficiency of the engine was good at the whole rev range and turbo lag was also not an issue. It was a totally different filosophy than what was common back in the 80s.

Love seeing the old American stuff in the UK. Upon being discharged from the army in 69 during the Vietnam era my father bought a 1970 Firebird Formula 400 (Trans Am without the disco) with a 4-speed and all manner of go-fast goodies. I came along in 73 and that was our family car until 80. He bought another Formula in 87, which for the then thirteen year old me was the final nail in the car obsession coffin that I have yet to climb out of.

Over the years I am growing more into these Merc’s, but I still remember the Mosselman ones… they were next level. So much respect for this collection as a result of a passion that started at early age … too many influencers ‘collecting’ cars.

I only have one W124, a standard E420 from 1995 with low miles (45,000 km at present) and two owners before me. Rather like Neville's E400 AMG, but totally standard appearance, which makes it quite the sleeper. If you're ever near Paris, you're welcome to take it for a drive. I think you'd like it!

Neville, as a Mercedes-Benz owner-driver I must compliment you on your beautiful M-B collection. Also, I drive at the Mercedes-Benz AMG Racing Academy, so, as you know, AMGs are rocket ships on wheels. :) I also have to thank you for bringing back a fun memory for me--the angle shift. I had one in my C230 Kompressor. I've always driven cars manually (clutch or no clutch for better control--and more fun). M-B went to the touch then paddle shift, which is obviously more efficient, yet the angle shift is still my favorite due to that great mechanical feel. Lastly, I must make one friendly correction: you said you had too many M-Bs so reduced from 40 to 20, yet God's truth is one can never have too many M-Bs :)

What a remarkable collection. Serious shed envy here and a treasure trove of parts too. Last year I had the pleasure of reviewing a very tidy 1990 Ascot Grey 190E 2.0 auto. I can see why these cars commanded a premium back in the day as they feel.way more substantial than most 80's designed cars. In fact I always forget that these go back 40 years and often think of them being more of an early 90's car

As a kid that grew up on American muscle cars, I was lucky enough to watch my father beat everyone in our area drag racing, and I’m lucky enough to still have him at 70 just selling his 5 second car now, and my love for American muscle grew into my love for Mercedes in my 30 and now into my 40’s, seems that’s a natural progression to start off appreciating American muscle, then growing into a respect for superior engineering
