The Late Brake Show

Күн бұрын

Welcome to The Jonny Smith Late Brake Show episode of Top Gear's Chris Harris life of cars part 2. Top Gear is the most famous car show, and Chris Harris is the small chap with no shortage of driving talent, who brings the wheelman element to the TV trio.
In something of a Late Brake Show exclusive Jonny takes his awful brown easy chairs down to Bristol to chat about Chris' life in and around cars, from work experience at Autocar, to the heady Top Gear madness of today. In this two-part Idol Chat, Harris, typically very guarded about his personal cars and private life, shows Jonny some of his charismatic automotive possessions and opens up about what his career journey has been like; What it's like to drift fast cars, throw eggs at Matt LeBlanc in a 2CV, break into KZbin world, crash a bit, race a bit, receive random phone calls from Chris Evans, get trolled and let a puppy eat his Porsche 911 GT3.
Thank you for watching The Late Brake Show.

@@gtametro Interesting. Thank you for attempting to clear that up. I think, due to Chris's personality (i.e. not as bombastic as the other 2 presenters) leads him to take a back seat unless it's time to thrash a car around a track. I wish he would take more of a Jeremy Clarkson role (i.e. head presenter) but it seems Paddy has taken on that role, more or less. Either way, I think Chris saves the show. After a youth of eating, drinking, sleeping cars, I've not paid any attention for YEARS. The YT algorithm has driven (heh, pun!) me back into it, via HubNut and Smith & Sniff (love that podcast!). I'd never heard of Chris Harris before, but I've just watched an hour of really intimate chatter - the human element of motoring love - and I've now got another YT rabbithole to feed me for months or maybe years. Thanks, Jonny (and thanks Chris too).

First time I think I've ever seen or heard Harris let his guard down to anyone and I doubt we'll see it again for a long time to come. I look forward to seeing where the armchairs go next 😉

Great interview and Chris if you ever read this, I'm glad you stuck it out on Top Gear. You were the light in the first series, and I believe what made it survive the transition to today.

Awesome! What a great interview! Very nice to to that Chris Harris is as genuine, as he has always come across as. I appreciate that he has not went down the influencer route, and stayed true to his passion as journalist/enthusiast. Jonny Smith I am not as familiar with your work, but well done. Best of luck!

I had no idea who Chris was, don't have a telly, no idea. What a fascinating man. Private, modest, got a bit of an edge to him, and really interesting. Well interviewed as well, you didn't get in the way of him, it was clear you were talking to someone you liked and respected and you both seemed to have fun. Great show, honestly, and I'm looking forward to whatever you bring to us in the future. Don't sell out, keep the swearing in, and thank you.

That was excellent. My two favourite podcast are: Smith and Sniff and Collecting Cars, so this is just the best of both worlds. In the unlikely event that Chris or Jonny are reading this. Jonny, keep up the good work, the KZbin work is great and to be honest I think it's better than the TV stuff. You're at your best doing the quirky and geeky stuff you clearly love, TV will always restrict that. Chris, fair play for opening up about mental health, that takes balls. For all the issues with Chris Evans and top gear, the one great thing to come out of that was your involvement. Top gear needs at least one true petrol head. As someone who read your work in Evo, then PH and loved the KZbin stuff, I never saw top gear as selling out. We all grew up watching and loving top gear. I remember being able to stay up later on a Thursday night to watch, I think I was about 8 when Tiff did the McLaren F1 episode, it was the most exciting thing I'd ever seen. Who wouldn't want to do top gear? Jealousy is a terrible thing. Most of those who criticise do so because you are living the petrol head dream. Top man.

Genuinely the best video (both parts) I've seen in forever Jonny I was smiling the whole time watching! Thank you. Chris is an absolute hero of mine and this has brilliantly shown how the stardom of top gear hasn't changed the man. Both of you keep doing what you do guys. You're both the very embodiment of what it means to be a petrolhead.
