Difference between Tort law and Criminal law?

tort law is civil, ie. from one private individual to the other. whilst criminal law is prosecution, ie. state vs private individual for a crime

I am not, but I was a PhD researcher in International Law before putting that on pause to work on this project. I hold a BA in Philosophy and an LLM in International Law.
