My Husqvarna 128ld starts good, runs good but idles bad, even after adjusting the idling the mixture screws. It starts perfect on a cold start, it runs perfect at full throttle, but it's idling between 3800 and 4200 rpms. When I adjust the idle screw and L screw to the manufacturer idle speed (which is 2300-3200 and I try to keep between 2800 and 3200 rpms) it idles for about 15 seconds then shuts off. I have purchased three different carburetors, "New spark plug, replaced the fuel filter, fuel lines and air filter. I like to keep my lawn equipment in great running condition so if anyone could help me troubleshoot or diagnose this problem it would be highly appreciated.

I always have Fel-Pro 3157 gasket material on hand for various projects. I probably would have cut that gasket with scissors, exacto knife, & punches rather than forking out $15 for a new one. I must admit, though, some gaskets are easy to cut but that one is a bear, probably would take a half hour. For me as basically a hobbyist that's okay. For you as a business person, maybe not.

I had a 2 stroke scooter with a small engine like the ones used on weed whackers when I was younger. It always rattled horribly and the smoke was so thick and white that you could tell I rode past your home for a good 30 seconds. It would also stall easily after cold starting. I rode that thing for so many years and honestly I did not even know anything was wrong. I thought that is normal for these engines until I saw this video! I don't have the scooter anymore because the pull start broke on me and given its age and rarity, there was no finding a replacement

Just want to tell you thanks for saving my honda mower. Now its the new to me Husqvarna weed eater purchased like 5 yrs ago at lowes, don't know the model, but the one that takes the attachments. Anyways, I just changed filer and plug last year. as always starts up beautifully but takes longer and longer for engine to warm up and get out of half choke to full run otherwise it dies out on me. Now I had to run it for say like 12 mins in 1/2 choke as otherwise dies out on me. As time went on, I could move the handle further toward full run but If I went to far would just die. Think I switched the inlet and outlet fuel lines, something else, maybe carb needs a cleaning? Think I can get away with just a fuel additive cleaner?

I can’t start it on no choke (full way back) any ideas ? I’d appreciate it thanks.
@TheLawnmowerLady Жыл бұрын
If you have to rely on partial choke to keep it running, you have some fuel delivery issue. Need to fix that, before you can address the head turning at idle. It's starving for fuel somehow. Perhaps and air leak? Clogged fuel filter? I wish could be more helpful. Thanks for watching.

Definitely sounds like a fuel delivery issue. Either the tank fuel filter is clogged or the tiny fuel inlet screen inside the carburetor might be clogged. I don’t suspect a bad tank vent. Those carbs are very similar, so the same procedure I showed in this video. Thanks for watching. Cheers!
@nickgilliland8235Ай бұрын
So if mine had oil all over the spark arrester what could the problem and fix be?
@TheLawnmowerLadyАй бұрын
If it's oil, and still wet, you have excessive blowby of un-burnt fuel and oil. You need to run your machine at full throttle. If the oil has hardened, you need to burn it off with a propane torch. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ3Jgnlji9qKbK8 shows how I do this about 3 minutes into the video.

Unfortunately, diagnosing over the internet is difficult. That said, start with the basics: spark, fuel, and air. Each of those entail other issues: air is more than a clean air filter. What is the compression? Have you checked for crank vacuum and/or pressure leaks? Another channel @VintageEngineRepairs he does a lot more 2-stroke repairs and diagnosis. I hope you get it sorted out. Thanks for watching.

There’s a link in the description for that tach. Sort of overkill for lawnmowers. I purchased it for motorcycles, but it’s handy all around. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
@Rein_Ciarfella2 жыл бұрын
The Lawnmower Lady Oh, I’ve already followed the link and bookmarked it! I got a remote tach a few months ago and it works just fine, but it’s kind of small and doesn’t have nearly the capabilities of yours. Being able to retain measurements as well as measuring ignition voltage are strong selling points. I was wondering if that tool could do a better job of determining fault with coils and plugs than inline spark testers. Have you used it for that at all? I work on all kinds of small engine equipment so a more capable tach would be well used.
@TheLawnmowerLady2 жыл бұрын
@@Rein_Ciarfella interesting, I have not used it for that, I should next time I’m testing for spark. Sometimes it’s difficult to find a good ground that still allows me to see the tester while pulling on the starter. The proximity of how far the probe can detect is pretty large. The only thing that confused me at first was many small engine systems use a wasted spark ignition. So I have to set the tester for two cylinders instead of one. I guess I could just do the math…
@Rein_Ciarfella2 жыл бұрын
The Lawnmower Lady That proximity would be very valuable, especially on things like mowers and chainsaws (where I need two hands)! Now I’m gonna have to go down another learning rabbit hole and teach myself what a wasted spark system is. 😉😂👍🔧🧰
