11:28 The siege blaster feels like more of a reference to the silly length of the original and not the shape. (Because all the accessories combine together.) It is cooler in my opinion to have a slew of different weapons/guns combine into a giant death canon than to just have a detailed hunk of plastic. Gives it more playability.

3:00 in actuality, MP 52 Starscream was licensed by Boeing, making it an official F-15 vehicle mode. Given that this video was made 2 years ago, you probably figured that out long before I said so.

Astrotrain is actually my first vintage G1 Decepticon, all he was missing was most of his stickers, (except for the Decepticon symbols). In the 3-or-so years since I found at the Rouge Toys in Oregon, he has taken some more damage than he already had, such a stress marks on the leading wheels after I dropped him on the concrete driveway, a pin holding one of the purple leg flaps periodically slides out, a crack in his left shoulder, and one of the tabs that held his thruster-cab in alt modes breaking off. But twelve-year-old me loved him then and fifteen-year-old me loves him now. :)

6:22 Siege Astrotrain isn't perfect, but it's our best non-MP Astrotrain we have ever gotten. The weapons plug into the back half of shuttle mode and make it look a lot better.

2:06 Something weird that the animation model for Astrotrain does is it depicts him as having central, double-sided cylinders; that is, the cylinders are set in the middle of the driving wheels, and pistons extend from either side of them, powering 4 driving wheels each. (1:34; if you go back and watch any of the shots depicting Astrotrain moving in train mode, you'll see that the piston rods move up and down at the ends, but stay at the same level in the middle, where the vertical purple piece is, indicating it's the cylinder.) Of course, this is pretty much impossible in the real world, and no such steam locomotive exists. It's pretty much because the character model artists confused that big hinge on the original toy between the front and back driving wheels as the cylinder. Interestingly, the Siege/Earthrise Astrotrain toy kinda homages this by having cylinders in the front *and* in the middle (as indicated by how there's multiple sets of piston rods, with the back set sorta just ending in the middle of the train mode). This seemingly implies that the Siege/Earthrise toy is a weird, non-existent, 2-4-4-2 locomotive. Now, none of this really matters in the whole D51/D62 discussion. It's just something I noticed, and have always found interesting as yet another weird animation error that originates from the G1 cartoon.
@barelymediocrestudios94043 жыл бұрын
2-4-4-2s did exist, but they were never all that practical. If I had to guess, I'd say the Siege/Earthrise designers just took random design ques from a variety of locomotives from a number of eras.
@Zonorheso3 жыл бұрын
@@barelymediocrestudios9404 True, yeah, 2-4-4-2s did exist; I meant more that whatever specific 2-4-4-2 locomotive that Astrotrain is doesn't exist. Also, agree with the second point, there are so many greebly details on that toy that are just "Oh yeah, that's train stuff, right? Pipes and what not?"

Siege Astrotrain's *combined* gun is more or less the equivalent of the BFG of previous iterations of Astrotrain. It's his schtick, similar to Blitzwing's phallic lookin' sword. (Though Animated Blitzwing seems to not include it)

Just a note... the train mode actually DOESN'T need to be purple. There's actually a repaint of the figure in more real world colors that doesn't use the purple at all. Rather there are parts on the shuttle mode that appear in train mode but since NASA shuttles tend to be while and black anyway the black parts of the shuttle just blend into the train. It's a rather genius color change between modes and I love that version of the figure. I wish I had picked it up when I had the chance but the weird robot mode kind of turned me off at the time. The more I look at the figure though it's actually one of my favorite triple changers of that era, especially when its done in the more real world colors.

Apperently Mp-52 Starscream is licensed (according to tfw2005 members) and the reason the toys look so different from the show is because the artist only got small blurry images or what the g1 characters were supposed to look like.

The cockpit detail becoming a part of the helmet on Starscream is something that really intrigues me. The position of the nose cone on the back is something I’m glad they improved on. I think the nose being parallel to the torso looks better. I’m not as bothered by the nose cone as I am the wings. I am so glad the animation model had them much higher up. I think they look a bit weird that low.
