Happy Sunday, Bridget! I will try out this strategy with my reading groups this week. We are reviewing a simulation test they took last week to prepare for state testing. Within each group, I can have students work on this activity to look for elements in different passages they read. I am also going to try to adapt this to a little simpler level for my level 1 English Language Learners and increase the challenge for my gifted students. Thank you, as always, for sharing activities and strategies that are completely brand new to many of us. Thank you for doing so much hard work for your job that also benefits so many other teachers! Have an awesome week ahead! 💜

I love this idea! Will you include a couple of the example templates that you mentioned?

This speech language pathologist loves to see semantic analysis, vocabulary is critical to analysis, can even color code the +’s and -“s. Absolutely love the Book Thief. How do I sign up for your list?

@@BridgingLiteracy I would possibly color code, e.g., the +’s green and the -‘s red (or any other color combinations; therefore, at a glance you can see the characteristics that they share and ones they don’t: while not my favorite colors to code, red has the added underlying semantic of a a stop sign indicating no connection while green - (or even teal) indicates the action go or positive connection. Just adding more layers to the comprehension. This can also be done in the case of comparing 3 things, one color to indicate one book another the third book and joint characteristics a blend of those two colors (I suppose that’s clear as mud, but I hope you get it)! Let me know if an SLP’s perspective is helpful

We must be willing to roll the dice and lose. Prepare, at the end of the day, for none of it to work.
