Incorporating SPED & ESL strategies in GenED is a game-changer for students & ensures that you are doing UDL & MTSS!

I'm also here for figuring out how to deal with the amount of vocab in CKLA. This curriculum reminds me SO much of what we were so happy to get rid of back in the 70s! It all comes back, repackaged.

You are certainly NOT alone! And I’ve also felt as though we’ve been reverting to old methods this past year or two. If it didn’t work well then…. I’m not sure how it will benefit our students now 😣

Hello. I watched your other video first. Our district has just adopted CKLA. I am on unit 2 and am fine tuning my vocabulary instruction.Your videos have helped me so much. Thank you. As I watch and listen I am trying use your suggestions in CKLA. The lessons in CKLA have us introduce vocabulary with the speaking and listening (about 6 vocabulary words) and reading (about 6 vocabulary words). That adds up to about 12 per day each day. It is a lot which is the word every teacher says when they talk about CKLA. They do have a word for “word work” maybe I use those to dig deeper. I have heard you mention CKLA. Do you have any advice of how to do this with CKLA? I did also join your community and will watch your video there.

Welcome to the community! I would say you need to pair back the number of texts you are using with your students. Remind me how many texts you read week? From there you need to decide which words are important…. The training video on vocabulary (in teacher trainings) will explain this and give you practice!

@@BridgingLiteracy There are 2 readings per day. Reading together and Speaking and Listening. They each come with 5-6 new vocab each day. I will hopefully watch the training video this week. Pair back sounds like a great idea. We are expected to teach with fidelity this year but there are words on the list that they already know.

Hi, is this applicable to first grade? If not what else to use for bilingual first grade, than you, love your videos.

You can do some aspects like the jar for celebrating words and the picture of the book with words next to it. I wouldn’t recommend d doing the organizer as that is too advance and you are already doing parts of this with teaching phonics.
