You can use those cork boards as a homework board for students that may be absent. Post past assignments for the week (M-F) on the boards with a bin nearby filled with copies of the assignments. Helps to get them in a habit of being responsible for themselves by checking the boards and asking their peers before coming to you as their teacher for missed work. Works really well when student happen to miss a test - you can accentuate it with bright colors.

We had those painter sticks at my library when I was in elementary school. When you took a book off the shelf you stuck your paint stick there so you knew where to put it back. Genius.

You could use a card table for your square table. I know you want your classroom to have a rustic appearance. You could paint the top or place distressed fabric on top of the card table. To have a smooth surface for writing, cover it with plexiglass.

Here's an end of the year tip that will make setting up the library easier each year: I bought large Plastic tubs with lids. The last week of school, I have a few reliable kids pack the books, keeping genres together as much as possible since that's the way my library is organized. Unpacking is much faster when the books are packed the way they are organized!

Thank you so much! Don't worry about having a huge Library right away. It has taken me about 8 years to collect these books. I started in college and I just buy a few used books every so often. If you have a local used book store, that would be my first stop. Also try garage sales. A few comment below have mentioned websites for used books, but I haven't tried those yet. Oh! And Scholastic will give you credits when your students buy books....I have picked up quite a few through that program. Good luck!

With the pin boards .... If you use them for the writing process have the kids choose and name their animal (owl,cat, or a rat- like in Harry Potter) and use their animal to keep track of where they are in the writing process. If that makes sense.

I like the idea of having all books in one area...like--the book store! BUT!!! Fourth graders are...BIG. It'd be nice--ER to have them have enough room to shop the books you have. Clearly, fourth grade kiddos would spend a minute at that shelf with chapter books, before they selected. I would put the new black spinning shelf across the room.
@mwcmwc87688 жыл бұрын
I'd choose option A. I'd also group all my books by authors together and all my other books together. Example: Put all books by Gail Gibbons, Patricia Polacco, etc. together then put all categories (poems, fairy tales, etc.). I wouldn't mix them together--that's just me. I taught 4th for years. We used dictionaries almost every day. I can't imagine using Dr. Seuss easy readers, Mercer Meyer, and some others very much though.

@cpelletier96358 жыл бұрын
Choice A because all the girls putting their bags away are going to knock it all them time. All. The. Time. Plus, the picture books may not be read much as much of my students called them baby books. The books my students liked best in 4th grade were the "I survived..", Thea Stilton, Geronimo Stilton, Guinness Book of World Records (any year), Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Humphrey the Hamster (I think that was his name), Magic Treehouse, Descendants, etc. Dictionaries were a must in our classroom. The kids would always ask you a question that they could easily look up in the dictionary. We would say Look it up, before answering.

You could use the cork boards for house points or for the names of whos in each house. Don't know if your doing it this way or not but would be cool to split them into houses and give out points but have the houses span both ur am and pm classes so that your am griffindors can effect the points of ur pm griffindors. not sure if that makes sense. haha. loving your vlogs btw. :D

I would put the stand next to the library area (option A). On the doors I would suggest to put pictures similar to the ones used in the film to open the doors. Ex: singing lady as I think the class needs a bit more Harry Potter theme in it. The main door maybe the platform theme and maybe do some labeling of cute bottles like potions.... I m also a teacher and thus really like your channel. KEEP IT UP xxx
