He left the band and then rang them back when they got a record deal.....Carl put him in his place after that and he did what he was told and stayed out the spotlight!....or so the story goes...makes sense though doesn't it?cause here he is very much part of the front row

Carl said in the Bystanders doc that Peter was always the 'taskmaster' in those days: driven, focused and relentless in his pursuit of songwriting prowess and band success. Peter's new book also sheds new light on that, confirming this fact.

Why do people always say the Libertines were a copycat English version of the strokes when they'd written most of their songs before the strokes even released their first album?

Perhaps cause some of the songs in their 1st album did aim at following the trend of the likes of the strokes, but they have their own sounds, of course. They didn't sound like the strokes, they were better than the strokes in some other perspectives, though they did copy a few.

One of my highlights bumping into Pete in London in 2010 and playing his guitar while he sang this very with me.

What people need to remember here is that by '99, Britpop had shot its bolt and we were still a couple of years off that garage rock/indie rock revival thing. What inhabited that void in between was like shite bands like Gomez and Gay Dad, or later that pussy NAM thing. Would loved to have been aware of this back in '99!

Yeah this sound and image is SO out of step for 99 it’s kind of hilarious and I love them for it. Music was awful then, travis and jamorquai also topping the charts lest we forget. It’s quite incredible Pete had a song of this calibre knocking about that early. But they needed to start playing faster and wearing the leather jackets to get attention in 02
