That was my only issue. Because of Saturn saying Nika, it kinda confirms his existence. Especially because we don’t know how far Oda’s taking us, Nika could be simply a deity of the past, especially seeing that geocentric setup with Clover. How about this. What if nika is literally exist because everyone seeing Luffy as nika. While joyboy is a "will" because when Luffy awakened, zunesha called Luffy as joyboy and zunesha didn't saw Luffy directly. And why everyone in egg head island couldn't hear the drum of liberation even they seeing Luffy as nika in front of them? except to the giant robot. So as Luffy wants to show liberation the "will" or "joyboy" is moving. Maybe zunesha and the giant robot did something or they vowed to that joyboy/will? That's why they heard the drum of liberation? Zunesha is roaming around because he is looking for a person who is carrying the joyboy/will, so zunesha is not punished like the others theory. Theory about Laugh tale/eternal flame Roger said that they were too early, because joyboy wasn't existed in his time. I think Oda is somehow pushing the Eastern Supremacy pr0paganda in OP story. First, we need to understand that in Japanese belief Sun God is a main worshipped figure. Second he is also referencing from the story of The Raising Power of The East, the sociaIism/c0munism of China. Because the leader of Rev Army named Dragon and he's from East Blue!!! The main soundtrack 'We Are!' is also a symbol of the spirit of togetherness. This one resonances with the sociaIism/c0munism value where coIIective way of life is always promoted with. And why Straw Hat becomes the most important thing in the story? Because it symbolizes the Iow-class people. You see farmers and other field labors/workers in East & South East Asia region are often seen wearing straw hat on their heads during their work. Luffy is Nika, he travels back to the ancient kingdom and does all the things that Joyboy was said to have done. He just appeared out of nowhere from the future, made the promise, then Lady Toki sent him back to the future to finish what he started in the ancient kingdom. Lady Toki is traveling to the point in the future where she sent Joyboy/Luffy. Oda already set up time travel in reverse, only a matter of time before Luffy gets sent to the past, Lady Toki is his return ticket back to his time. The story is One Piece, which is the One Piece, the comic book we are currently reading in which Luffy is the hero of. His powers are that of a comic book character because that is what he literally is. The Straw Hat's logbook is the story of One Piece, what if it were to get left in the past? I think someone makes a comic book out of it in the past and it's like a book of prophecy that tells of Luffy/Joyboy's adventures leading up to when he left the ancient kingdom to the future. The comic book "One Piece" became the "One Piece", and when Roger read it and learned of future events......he laughed. He read how he gets executed and starts the great pirate era which inspires Luffy to become the Joyboy he has been searching for, Luffy wasn'y born in Roger's era so they could never meet.

The problem with this theory, I think, is that we've actually met a lot of things that used to be considered "Legendary" or "fictional" to the Strawhats. Skypeia. Giants. Mermaids. The Gladiator erased from people's memory in Dressrossa. The One Piece itself IS REAL! Even dragons, which we KNOW existed outside of Vegapunk's creations due to Monsters/Ryuma being canon. Even with the Mythical Zoans, again, we KNOW dragons existed at one point and Kaido has the Mythical Zoan Dragon Fruit, so they aren't ALL "fictional". There seems to be a theme of NOTHING in this world being 100% fictional. EVERYTHING seems to have some sort of historical basis, even if it's not quite the same as the story we're told. Mind, it's possible that's all from the Devil Fruits manipulating reality over the centuries or something, making dreams come true where they didn't exist before long ago in the past. But, we really haven't see that be the case, yet. This is pure speculation, but even Sora Warrior of the Sea MIGHT be based on Vinsmoke Sora, Sanji's mom. Could she be a former Marine who got seduced by Judge, Catwoman style? Maybe they fictionalized someone who betrayed the World Government into it's biggest supporter to twist the tale, so others wouldn't be inspired to follow her lead. But, I do think you're onto something with the "Comic Book of Nika" idea. Because, I think we've already seen that. Kuma's bible. We know there's churches to the Sun God, so those would tell that story. So, while I don't think the "Story of Nika" will end up being the One Piece treasure, I do think we'll see it play a part in the story later. I'm just not totally sold on the idea of Nika being 100% a fictional creation. Because, nothing else has been completely made up. It's all been "real" somehow. Now, he MIGHT be more "cartoony" because he's based on a VERY loose idea of the original Nika. I could see Nika being 80% fictional, being mostly a tall tale, like King Arthur or Robin Hood. But, I do think it's likely there WAS some sort of original historical Nika that seeded the idea. Although, I do think there's something to the idea that Nika isn't what he seems. We keep shrugging off the idea that Nika committed some sort of crime, but what if that turns out to be true? Oda likes to subvert expectations for big things like this. Gods become devils becomes gods, over the course of history. So, what if Nika did do something truly terrible? Because while the story probably isn't 100% fictional, it's probably not 100% true, either. Also, it's interesting that neither Nika or Joyboy really have "names". Nika is the grinning sound effect, so that could just be a nickname. And Joyboy is a title or nickname. We still likely don't know either of their real names. So, Is it possible that Oda's keeping their real names a secret because BOTH of their real names are actually "Luffy"? I have to wonder, is it possible that the other two "prototype" versions of Romance Dawn are actually canon? Could Romance Dawn v1 and 2 actually BE Luffy's past lives? And also, the start of Nika and Joyboy's journeys? I don't know, it's just something the recent "Monsters" one shot adaptation made me think about. If Monsters is canon, could the OTHER stories in the Wanted volume be canon too? It feels like something Oda might do.

In the anime, after Luffy came back to life and his devil fruit awakened, his voice was momentarily different; a deeper voice. He was also confused at first. I think that initial voice was that of the fruit itself, or that of the previous user, the will temporarily taking over completely. Then, Luffy's will regained control and his voice returned to normal.

As much as I absolutely love your theories, they are the top tier of the community and you're the most knowledgeable fan of OP besides myself and I've been reading since 01 haha, I do miss your actual chapter analysis, breaking down the Japanese puns, background details, references to previous chapters, story beats, Easter Eggs, that was your bread and butter for years but for the last year of so you mainly theorize about future ideas and don't really get into the chapter itself. I do love those theories and I've watched them all, but I do really miss the actual, well, chapter secrets that complimented every chapter. The "nika isn't real" and "joyboy was the real nika" theories don't have to be different. As you said Awakened zoens if the host doesn't have enough will, the fruit takes over. If the nameless person who became joyboy awakened but didn't have the will of luffy, who is basically defined by having a notably strong will, then the nika persona would completely take over, making the person unable to return back like luffy does and making joyboy nika in all but name, as he would basically be nika in another's body

This tracks with my personal theory that roger had to sacrifice himself to let the fruit reincarnate. Not that he had the fruit. But that he saw the truth on laughtale and knew he had to start the pirate era so that the nika fruit would get brought back into the cycle. I believe that his illness could have literally been the fruit "growing" from his will in a way. Basically roger did not have the fruit, but his death did the same as if he did. Luffy changes people and places and the result of every arc is usually liberation for friends, villages, islands, etc. Marvel and DC heros generally dont fit because they tend to fight to protect the status quo. I know this is a massive comment but please read and come back to me with your thoughts. Vegapunk revealed that DF are manifestations of people's will and dreams. That explains pretty much everything on its own. Nika is the legend of a God that manifested it self into a devil fruit with the help of the people's will and dreams. People lived in captivity and misery under the world government, joyboy liberated them but ultimately lost ( he didn't manage to throw a big party like he wished because he dies before he could make it, so he wrote it down in RAFTEL in a poneglyph and this is what Roger and his crew read there), so naturally the WG covered it all up (hence VOID century). People were wishing for this tyranny to end, they dreamed of a better tomorrow. With their wills and dreams the legend of Nika became a reality. It became a devil fruit. Nika is not a real person so you can't say Nika and Joyboy are the same. You wouldn't call someone by his devil fruit ability. When saturn exclaimed ''Nika'' he obviously meant the fruit and not Luffy. Joyboy was just the right carrier for the fruit as he possessed the right will and dreams (so the fruit chose him). His goals aligned with that of the story of Nika. Roger said ''I am too early to be joy boy''. Roger had the right will but he didn't have the right dream ( so the fruit avoided him by being intentionally stolen by shanks). That's the difference between Roger and Luffy. Both want to liberate the world. Rogers dream was simply to be the king of the pirates. Luffy wants to become the king of the pirates as a means to an end. Luffy's dream is to have a massive party with everyone around the world. This is not lost in translation at all its just there in the open for everyone to see. Also, Roger knew everything about Nika and Joyboy, so he intentionally sacrificed himself (he wasn't dying of a decease). Him and Rayleigh knew that the next Joyboy would be born in 10 years as Madam Shyarly predicted (that's why Rayleigh was reluctant when Roger suggested this) . Roger basically pulled off a public stand the best way he knew how to ( The public execution of the King of the Pirates ) and there is no way to get more attention that this . This way he could reach the most amount of people around the world and inspire the next Joyboy to become a pirate instead of anything else. Now Shanks is the biggest mystery we have yet to understand. Everything else is pretty much clued in. Did shanks know specifically who was the next Joyboy? Did he just know where to find the next Joyboy? Did he deduct from Madam Shyarly's prophecy and calculate how old the next joyboy has to be? Perhaps in Raftel they found out where the next Joyboy would be born. With that in mind and considering the prophecy you could say he could pinpoint the next Joyboy. Say a 5 year old kid in that island has to be the next joyboy then. All he needed to do was find the right age kid (in line with the prophecy) with right dreams and intentionally not share any food with him while leaving this fruit completely unguarded next to the kid. It just all makes sense. Roger inspired the pirate in Luffy, shanks brought him the fruit. I think although it sound cliche the only way to beat IMU is to have a massive party with everyone and bring out the love and brotherhood from everyone so their fears disappear. IMU feeds of nightmares and fear and after this party there will be no more nightmares, only dreams. THE END

Oda is Luffy and One Piece is his Hito Hito no mi the Devil Fruit that turns him into the sun god Nika, the prophesied liberator of mankind. *I hope Arthur reads this* 🤯 I just realised there were two buccaneers in the GodValley incident! Rocks and Kuma! Read chapter 957 to recap there are two translations. One of the translations mentions Sengoku saying “Once upon a time a Buccaneer by the name of Rocks sought to become the Pirate King.” This word “buccaneer” went past my head till I realised Kuma is also from that race. I thought Kuma was the only Buccaneer at the time but I was mistaken! This means Rocks has the blood of a giant! So much foreshadowing. Like The punishment of the Buccaneer race, Buccaneers link to Joyboy, Luffy’s Gear 5 ability that turns him into a giant. The giant Strawhat that Imu preserved and the Strawhats heading to Albalf. So many possibilities to Joyboy! The Will of D and potentially the giant race! Mentioning before what if the Joyboy from the void century was a buccaneer?! As buccaneers have the blood of giants running through their bodies! What if the buccaneers from the void century were giants?!

Coming from Oda, this ain’t no coincidence or error. Read both translations of chapter 957! To read this chapter the website is called “manganelo”

Read chapter 957 on manganelo. Sengoku says “One an upon a time a Buccaneer by the name of Rocks sought to become the pirate king.” That’s one translation. The other translation is “Once upon a time a pirate named Rocks sought to become the pirate king.” Coming from Oda, this was no mere coincidence. He’s the king of foreshadowing!
