I’m so grateful for this! I can count on two hands the number of salons I’ve tried out where they’ve said, “Wow, your hair is soooo thick!”- if it sounds more like an exclamation of shock to than just a compliment, it’s a red flag. “Can you thin it out at the ends so I don’t have triangle hair,” I’ll ask at the beginning. It’s taken as a grain of salt. At the end of the appointment, they style it so that the bulk is hidden. But then later when I wash/dry my hair- ding dong baby, my head looks like a bell. I’d like not to spend 45-60 minutes styling every day just to disguise the weight (plus who has the time?) so I always touch up at home with my thinning shears (looks okay at first- until it grows out). I’m excited to try this out.

OMG, this is exactly the sort of TLC I need. I've had nothing but a string of disasters from cheaper to high end stylists. I can only recall 2-3 cuts in my entire life that were great, and I think it has a lot to do with the thickness of my hair - some people are too shy and barely trim or shape it, others far too liberal and hack at it, leaving me with uneven, thick, shabby disasters.

I think clients with very thick density just want to have some movement and not end up with a puffy pyramid shape. I much prefer cutting very dense hair, vs low density or super fine hair. I use THIS method all the time and I have clients who tell me, "You're the only one who knows how to cut my hair." I found that hard to believe, yet, now I see people on these threads saying it, too. his cuts and education videos are great. I've picked up so many tips I can use.

This is different to layering right? Because I've got quite a thick hair and whenever I want to get rid of some weight on the salon the only option they offer me is to have layers and I hate the look of it when they grow out sometimes causing fly aways which I Hate.

I ask my hairdresser to take the weight out of my bob so it can lie closer to my head especially at the bottom where it starts to make my overall head shape look like a triangle. Unfortunately he cut away my bob and left me with a completely different hairstyle. I'm frustrated that he didn't know how to thin out my hair yet keep my style. I think I will take your video to another stylist and ask them could they do this for me. It's too awkward to show to my current stylist because he'll probably think I'm correcting him. He just went overboard and kept cutting til I had no length left. I thought maybe it isn't possible to do what I asked but I can see from your video that it is, and I feel hopeful. Thank you!
@TheLifeOfHair4 жыл бұрын
Well I’m ever so please sparkle box that this video has inspired confidence that you can have what you want and why not take this video to a stylist I am never offended when people show me videos pictures images allsorts of things to convey what they want because at the end of the day they don’t know the technical terminology because they’re not a hairdresser so visual descriptions such as this are absolutely vital and actually make my job easier.

James I've watched this video twice now. I can't wait to give it a go. Do you think this would also work on curly thick hair or can you suggest some other cutting/thinning technique. Thanks for all your videos!
@TheLifeOfHair3 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie wonderful stuff yes this is a great technique on my absolute faves for removing density in bulk in long and short hair it does work very well on curly hair you just have to be a little bit more careful about how you go about it you need to make sure the hair isn’t a good tension there are no loose curls because you will cut my hair off very short if you allow her to sit naturally so you need to calm her down and attention and cut down the Hair client I would recommend leaving probably 1 1/2 cm spacings in between each of the sections that you cut to allow for a little more a little less weight to be removed

I like this cut, but she only has about 1/3 as much hair as I do! I would like to go back to a bob. On top of having about 5 times most people's hair, I have wavy texture underneath and straight on top of that. What should I tell a stylist? I'd like to be able to have waves on some days and straight others. I have gone so far as to have the back cut pixie style underneath my hair. I always get it thinned out. I'm not exaggerating. I also like pushing my hair away from my face for styling, rather than hanging down each side. I prefer some wispy bangs, because my forehead I'd high and straight thick bangs look too severe. Love some recommendations. Thanks.

I love the principle behind the technique. People are terrified of most thinning techniques. I'm growing my pixie out and cos hair is thick, I follow what the hairdesser was doing before lockdown. She was quite simply removing chu n ks with texturising scissors - and this made my growing haystack of hair lie more lovingly around my head. I think I may have overdone it slightly now, but not sure what to leave and what to attack as I head from short pixie to a very short bob (my current status). Any videos for this type of thing, growing hair down in a pretty way? X
@TheLifeOfHair4 жыл бұрын
Yes I can imagine your scenario quite clearly a very common one in fact going out to pick it can be very very difficult, I will try and come and drop some sort of video for growing out her shapes but I would imagine it won’t be massively do similar to this video that you’ve just watched in the sense that this technique really does help the hair slim down as it grows out overdoing it is the worst thing that you can do in a lot of ways unfortunately because instead of slimming the hair down it creates lots of shorthairs that then make the hair look bigger rather than slimmer 👍🏻
@Ladynipchick24 жыл бұрын
@@TheLifeOfHair Well, just applied this slicing technique to the bulging effect on my growing out fringe - which can look like ears, lol, if you can imagine that! Anyway, brilliant. Looks much better than it did when i tried to reduce bulk with my texturising shears. Sitting very nicely now. Thanks.
@esteranine72274 жыл бұрын
Ok but....(I have same question for people who use thinking scissors very close to the root) It’s been texturised from pretty much the top. And it always looks good straight after and even few weeks after. But how is it going to look after few months, when hair start growing and getting tad longer? It will start sticking out? Because would be impossible to texture exact sections next time 🤔
@TheLifeOfHair4 жыл бұрын
I totally appreciate what you’re saying they’re this can be problematic if the channels of hair that you are removing are too chunky the channels simply want to be super fine maybe one or two hairs in wits as you go down the head that is why we are travelling with the grain in terms of it growing out very much grows out like your natural hair might if you’re going through the natural growth process Allergen, Telogen, Calligan. I’ve been doing this technique for many many years and never had any serious problems with it you just have to be super diligent about travelling with the hair straight down the natural fall

This goes out really well actually I use it all the time in the salon with absolutely no issues you just have to be very careful not to move too much hair and in terms of the ends of your hair well absolute has zero impact on the ends apart from that reduces some of the bulk
