OK I've seen a lot of people saying this is a terrible idea, but I heard more emotion, accurate characterization and similarities to the books than I saw in BOTH movies. Chris McCarrell is fantastic in this video. He looks like Percy would look at his age, he's dressing like Percy would, and we can see from that little behind the scenes clip before the song that he even shares some personality traits with Percy. And don't even get me started on the song. It perfectly summarizes all the emotions Percy feels in the first book. Grover and his mom were the only people who cared about him. And this song talks all about how he feels so alone and nobody believes him about all the weird occurrences. It mentions how distressed he is about his mom being gone and only stuck with Gabe. The part where the song slows and its pretty much just Chris singing has so much emotion as well. And it gets to the deeper meaning of Percy feeling alone, he just wants someone to accept and love him. So all in all. I think this musical is going to be great. It seems like the new songs and extended script and Chris McCarrell are going to make this musical great. Especially if Rick is actually positively promoting this musical. :)

I am so excited for this! Although, this guy's 26 and has brown eyes, he'll be as charming as Percy, I feel it. Also, he's so talented. This song gives me goosebumps. The lyrics is on point. It shows me a heartbroken side of Percy which is rarely seen in the books (because Percy always shakes it off with some sarcasm - which is also something I like about him). I saw Chris McCarrel as Marius in Les Miserables, and I am so excited for this, he brought a whole new light to Marius as a character I had never seen, and I'm more than ready to see him bring the same energy to the hero of my middle school career, and one of the first fan bases I'd ever joined, It's also never crossed my mind how much he looks like Percy Jackson. Alykat Logan Lerman felt too…I hate to say pulled together, but he didn't capture the sarcasm or attitude of Percy. Besides, Piper describes him as "Scruffy…a skater." Chris looks more like that. Plus, even the subtle acting he's doing while singing this feels more honest than the entire movie.

Kerri Jo I completely agree! That's exactly what it is. Logan Lerman was very clean-cut and they did try to scruff him up a bit but he still came out with that kind of naive-ish look and feel to him, whereas canonically, Percy has seen some shit. He's been kicked around his whole life by pretty much everyone who's come into contact with him (excluding his mom and Grover) and he's got a kind of grittiness and sarcastic street sense that comes with that. The books even say that he had to develop this kind of "don't mess with me" look to keep people away because he was getting picked on so often. Logan Lerman was, in my opinion, missing that grit. And even here, even in this little tiny sneak peek thing, I can see Chris has it.
