You know, it's kind of insane that one of the core pillars that lead to Mournestead's fall is...Judge Cleric not touching grass. Imagine the lives that could have been saved, the terrors averted, the realms saved if only someone in the Hallowed Sentinels had had the gall to drag her ass out to get some sunlight. All jokes aside, I love that you're still doing Lords of the Fallen lore. I gotta admit that there's something quite interesting in Adyr's next level pettiness. He could have all the bodies in the world to manifest his mortal avatar, and 1500 years of a grudge leads him to take the body of Iselle. Damn son. There's absolutely no way Mournestead isn't gonna burn in the fires of his revenge.
@Sometuy11A Жыл бұрын

I think the Putrid Mother's influence on events prior to the seals weakening is too downplayed; she is not just an opportunistic actor, but the driver behind everything. Looking at the timeline of events, it is more probable the initial plague was Umbral in nature, which helped drive the Hallowed Sentinels into paranoia and fanaticism, allowing the Rune of Adyr to twist their worship and weaken the seals when it was brought back into Mournstead. It is worth noting that no Adyr worshipper stigma or item suggests the initial plague was actually Rhogar in nature like Pieta and Judge Cleric think, and while the Rhogar plague twists forms, the dialogue of the stigmas suggests they simply suffer (wither?) and die. I doubt any Hallowed Sentinel would deny a mutated human with claws and sharp fangs slinging fire to be anything but Rhogar, and I doubt their radiant sorceries would prove so ineffective against such a plague.
@dominicp92967 ай бұрын
Agreed but the biggest mistake judge cleric made was not deatroy the rune she didn't want not to be wanted/needed she obviously enjoyed the power that was the start of there downfall right there
@Sometuy11A7 ай бұрын
I thought of this as well. Who's to say that the lamp wasn't what whispered into Harkyn's mind to give the rune to judge the cleric? After all, it does become a crucial part of the putrid mother's plan to enter Axiom, both in giving access to Adyr and as a way to kill the immortal Harkyn and collect his parasite. You are also correct that the items tied to the sundered monarch state he was afflicted by a "cruel sickness of the mind," and we know Rhogar energy withers both body and mind, making it likely he was affected by umbral insanity rather than fallen to Rhogar energy. We should also keep in mind that the Adyr worshippers heed whispers that come from beneath the earth because they believe Adyr's body is buried there, but we know very well that any whispers from the ground come from umbral.

The canon ending should be a mix of the three, basically resulting in The Putrid Mother devoured Adyr and Axiom, in 2 of the ending She defeats Adyr and in the last She is not defeated. Nothing states that Adyr is able to defeat Her, nor that Adyr would be able to provide a seal like the infant is in ages to come. And who knows if the infant and its successor placed by Orius’ church would be able to seal the Mother after She devoured another god ?
@SenjiroAkechi7 ай бұрын
Not true. Adyr is more powerful than her. Examples: Despite the fact that Umbral is simply layered on top of Axiom (like a shadow of Axiom), the Putrid Mother's influence in Axiom is absolutely minimal. Only where the veil between the two is thinnest (like in the mines) does Umbral kinda bleed over into Axiom a little bit. On the other hand Adyr is not 'close' to Axiom like Umbral is. He is in the Rhogar Realm which is completely separated dimensionally from Axiom and yet Adyr has immense influence over mournstead and axiom as a whole, including things like decay, natural disasters, mental corruption, eternal eclipses etc. You know that giant hand, larger than any mountain? The game tells you that giant hand mountain formation was from Adyr's mere anger being powerful enough to cross entire dimensions. The Putrid Mother does not have the sheer power to affect Axiom from Umbral the way Adyr can affect Axiom all the way from a different dimension altogether. Adyr talks about Orius and the Putrid Mother and calls them both cowards who won't show themselves, especially while his influence in Axiom is so great. The fact that all the way from the Rhogar Realm he is able to see the Putrid Mother and basically calls her a disgusting umbral parasite unworthy of the title of Godhood is telling enough. He is able to peer through other realms to see her clearly for what she looks like, and is unconcerned, his only concern is just getting to his home dimension of axiom. The Putrid Mother does not directly defeat Adyr in any ending. In the radiance ending the lamp bearer is able to overcome Adyr only after the former weakens Adyr by strengthening the beacons with the lamp's energy, on top of this, the lamp bearer also faces Adyr while being amped by the rune of Adyr in his posession. You may try to say that the lamp 'consumed' him as proof of the Putrid Mother's superiority but again the Lampbearer was also more powerful here because he had the Rune of Adyr in his possession. And besides that...Orius then turned around and destroyed not just you but the umbral lamp as well. And Orius is no more than a rival to Adyr, unable to exert his full influence on Axiom even though his rival Adyr is locked away in a prison dimension. And yet Orius had zero problem not just burning the Lampbearer into nothing, but the lamp and all its umbral energy as well. In the Umbral ending, the Putrid mother literally requires the Rune of Adyr as well to enact her plans. She has to taint the rune with umbral energy as well as remove melchior's body from the effigy of Adyr in bramis castle all for the dual purpose of helping her escape Umbral and to prevent Adyr from escaping the Rhogar realm. She didn't 'defeat' him at all. She removed him from the equation so he wouldn't be an obstacle to her and also required the power of his rune to escape Umbral herself. The most clear example of Inferno energy being greater than Umbral is through Pieta. Pieta's actual revival and healing powers don't come from Radiance/Orius, but from Umbral energy. As spoken of by Molhu, Pieta (whose original name as a child was Elianne) had an Umbral parasite fused into her since infanthood, unknowingly to her. Yet despite the healing powers her umbral blood gave her, she was completely unable to heal those stricken en-masse by the illness and mental corruption caused by the rhogar blight--all of which was coming from Adyr's influence.
@MarioGarcia-de2fj5 ай бұрын
@SenjiroAkechi great examples, but I feel as the putrid mother shows only enough to seem as if she is no threat. Which I think adyr fell for. He thinks of her as a disgusting parasite not worth his time or day. I believe the putrid mother to be alot smarter then what she lets on.

So how did the Judge Cleric attain Demi god status and live for over 1500 years while the other two judges didn't? Wasnt the judge cleric just a regular priestesses of Adyr right before the events of her losing her parents? Also who really is Orius? Don't think he created humans otherwise why would he let Adyr waltz in and take control of them? He just seems like a poorly written, one dimensional god and as Adyr says just hiding till some one else does Orius's bidding.
@MyRabbitHole Жыл бұрын
The whole story is flat and full of holes left open.
@Sometuy11A Жыл бұрын
@CalebDekker The three judges are likely immortal or very long-lived, seeing as Kaslo is over 500 years old by the events of the first game and Iselle is 1500 years old by the events of the second game. I don't think it's confirmed that Orius was the god behind the creation of the mortal realm, merely that it is a belief in the Orian faith. He is only a genius if you take the Radiance ending to be canon; otherwise, Orius is a complete fool, as the tool he tried to use against Adyr ends up either backfiring and resulting in freeing Adyr, giving him a lord who surpasses the judges in strength and taking out Iselle (not to mention giving him a god consuming weapon to use on the other gods lol) or ending existence altogether by freeing the putrid mother. Keep in mind that one of the possible lampbearers is literally a cultist of Adyr. It's far more likely that the PC specifically being resurrected was purely due to chance. There is also the HUGE risk that the events he supposedly orchestrated will lead you to find the rune of Adyr and fall into the temptation of power, which could be a catalyst for a lamp-bearer who was initially not a servant of Adyr to turn on their mission and join Adyr (or pretty much give the putrid mother what she needs to tear the veil). Honestly, it feels more like a gamble. The Radiance ending is a bit vague; Orius nukes could either be him killing the Rhogar or killing everyone he deems a heretic, be it Adyr worshippers or those who "stray away from the light." So it's up to interpretation The Radiance ending is a bit vague; Orius nukes could either be him killing the Rhogar or killing everyone he deems a heretic, be it Adyr worshippers or those who "stray away from the light." So it's up to interpretation, but the latter is not far off from some of the things the Christian god does or orders. Molhu is also still alive, the veil between axiom and umbral will continue to weaken because the boy martyr is dead (depending on your choices), Harkyn's umbral lamp is still around, and there are more umbral parasites out there. We know very devout servants of Orius (Dunmire) can fall to the temptation of umbral, so he hasn't exactly fixed the problem by nuking you Nuking you was also done purely for the lols rather than to destroy the lamp. Lampbearers can willingly part with their umbral lamps and no longer be bound to them (see Isaac), so what this really means is he doesn't give a shit if the PC lives or not and were just a disposable pawn to him. Also, what do you mean by "redeems pieta"?
@AmonnRa Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that Adyr acted kind towards Dark Crusader because he needed someone to corrupt beacons, also he couldn't face direct Crusader but only trough his minions, maybe he speaks truth but it's high possibility that he only manipulated player to join him.
@stevenfernandez3872 Жыл бұрын
@CalebDekker ughh no in regards with Pieta, there is no definitive proof that Orius resurrected her. Also "Her nature being corrupted and twisted by the umbral Parasite" ....She is the UMBRAL PARASITE with an Axiom body. There is no redemption for her. Her umbral nature (feeding on the dead) is marred by her overwhelming devotion to the Orius and her belief that she is an instrument of Orius. Hence why when we fight Elianne in the umbral ending, her name is Elianne "THE STARVED". Her resurrection is most likely through her Umbral powers or Molhu (her Father) who been watching over her since her conception. So how is Orius, a god that can't even confront Adyr and putrid mother gonna convert an umbral creature to a human? Orius is so paranoid about the putrid mother like Adyr, hence why he kills you at the end in the radiance ending. You the character are a dead person resurrected by the umbral lamp and hence linked to it like the Iron Wayfarer. So far Orius just seems like a weaker diety compared to Adyr and putrid mother, both who are straight forward with their intentions while Orius expects others to do his work for him and then step in and claim the spotlight.
@Sometuy11A Жыл бұрын
I'd just rather learn about the origin of the mortal plane from an unbiased source. Well, I agree that it was Orius' only play; otherwise, Adyr was sure to win. I was just protesting that it was a masterfully orchestrated plan and that it was more of a desperate gamble since a lot of it could have gone wrong and made Adyr completely unstoppable and able to kill other gods (inferno ending) or end reality altogether, but yeah, it was the only way for him to stand a chance. I never protested that. Sure, I am willing to grant that he's zapping the rhogar and hallowed sentinels first and foremost, though I personally doubt he'd stop there and would turn his gaze towards practitioners of other faiths like the descriers of the dawn. I admit that I don't know his stance towards other faiths, so I'll just grant that until further information is given. I don't think Molhu dies in the radiant ending, considering he resides in the umbral realm. I do grant that future lampbearers will be hunted by the church and Orius, of course. This still doesn't solve the massive issue of the umbral rift, which will not stop growing now that the boy martyr is dead. Orius should absolutely fear the player, but I don't see why not at least offer the sole reason he even won a chance to give up the lamp before smiting them, considering he can do it so casually. It was for the lols simply because a choice to part with the lamp was possible, but the benevolent Orius would not even grant it. And not necessarily; you could absolutely go on happily giving up your life in service of Orius but still not expect or want him to wipe you from existence for your efforts. Not everyone is a complete fanatic. I do agree with the Bible that the strong do what they will and the weak suffer what they must, but I'm still willing to call out God for being a dick if he actually existed and fucked me over after I served him loyally. I think Pieta's resurrection was due to her umbral parasite rather than being a miracle from Orius; she only thinks it must have been him because she was brainwashed into thinking he begot her and cares for her. Orius is no genius and is a dick, but he isn't as bad as I thought he was based on the ending.

The primary distinction between Elden Ring and other Souls games lies in their foundational inspirations. Elden Ring diverges from the heavy reliance on real-world religions and mythologies that characterize titles like Dark Souls and Lords of the Fallen (LotF). In the latter, deities such as Gwyn, akin to Zeus, and Nito, resembling Hades, draw directly from human mythologies. Similarly, in LotF, Orius is parallel to Zeus, while Adyr mirrors Hades, showcasing a strong influence from existing religious beliefs. Also Putrid Mother is heavily inspired from the CThun or the Wheel of Life God from legacy of kain. Last but not least, up to 80% is a bad copy of Christianity and copy from Diablo lore. This is why those games are all the same, heretical and boring. Killing demons or aligning with demons every time same story. Elden Ring, on the other hand, ventures into more original territory, significantly influenced by George R.R. Martin's creative vision. It introduces the concept of the Lands Between-a series of flat, distinct planes of existence. Unlike traditional deities, Marika, a central figure in Elden Ring, is not depicted as the king of gods but rather as a divine entity revered by the civilizations of the Lands Between. Her divinity is attributed to her origins from the outer planes and her possession of cosmic power, setting her apart from traditional godly figures. Furthermore, Elden Ring portrays a more complex cosmology. While Marika wields significant power, she is not alone; there exist entities beyond the Lands Between with power surpassing hers. The narrative depth extends with Marika's creation of the Elden Tree, a source of life for the Lands Between, and her offspring, the Empyreans (Elden Lords), who inherit runes from the shattered Elden Ring-a consequence of her sorrow over the loss of her firstborn, Godwyn the Golden. The protagonist, known as the Tarnished, is introduced to explore and unravel the intricate lore surrounding the Elden Ring. However, it's hinted that there is much more to the backstory, suggesting that Marika's role is not that of a universe creator but rather as a divine custodian sent by a higher force to nurture life under her guidance through the Elden Tree. This nuanced narrative framework in Elden Ring departs from traditional mythological archetypes, presenting a richly original lore that minimizes direct parallels with human religions, underpinned by Martin's unique contribution to its mythos. This is why Elden Ring and Lord of the Rings lore is much better lore than any other high fantasy lore in the world.

I will always believe the Putrid Mother is the cannon ending, because of how it is presented and certain lines we see. Love the lore, it's so well done, been playing since release and altho it had MANY and I mean MANY issues and some still persist, I cannot hate them, they add so many new free updates, always work on their game and try to listen to the community. But yeah, you could also see that because there is no continuation, the Putrid Mother's ending is the "cannon" one because all has been devoured :P But that's me just reaching :D

Orius is as bad as adyr if not even worse. Atleast adyr reward you if you help him unluke orius who kill you and everyone that dont belive in him. And when youre in the mind of judge cleric we see than she lived in a beautiful house in the middle a field and flowers while adyr's reign not really the heelscape that orius followers want to make everyone belive.

Lords of the Fallen actually has a good and coherent overarching story and good sub plots aswell. In DS and Elden Ring its not only incoherent but it frequently contradicts ifself. And when you do piece together the story and try to summarize it. You'll realize how terrible it actually is . However the plot story in Elden Ring after the shattering is actually quite good.

@@Diabeticninja90yeah. In ER and DS we can go examine every details in the game (statues, corpses, etc...) and add more context for item descriptions. We can connect in-game lore with IRL references. I don't think people can do similar things in LOTF.

The fact that all souls like games use the same way to inform the player about the story is depressing. Item descriptions and cryptic conversations with npcs IS NOT good story telling. I like this games story much more than Elden ring but for some reason it’s not communicated effectively to a new player . Such a shame because I like this game a lot .
@MyRabbitHole Жыл бұрын
The lore of LotF sadly is very shallow compared to the lore seeping out of every item, place and dialogue in Dark Souls or Bloodborne. Demon wants to come to mortal world. Over and over again.
@TuNguyen-vu1cg Жыл бұрын
Yeah. The intricate lore in Fromsoftware's soulborne games is unparalleled, and being enriched by not only the item descriptions, dialogues but also environmental storytelling (check the video of The tarnished archeologist to see). That why I think none of Soul-like can imitate those. In this game, the lore is at least better than many other Soul-like, but still very shallow and somewhat meaningless. I still feel Blasphemous and The last faith did lore better than this one.
