Same here. Growing up I used to go on an annual quote unquote guy’s only camping trip with my father, my uncle’s, and all my male cousins. My father and uncles told all of us to never go anywhere without at least two people with you making it a group of three. Furthermore we were told to never breakaway from the group and if we had to leave camp for whatever reason, we always had to have a total of three people with us at all times. We also had to really pay attention to our surroundings, environment, and the general whereabouts of everyone on the trip. Not only that but my father was never far away from me no matter where I was. Because of how we were raised and trained for a lack of better words, no one went missing and to put things in perspective, we used to do some serious wilderness camping when we did our guys only family camping trips. All the adults in my family were very aware of all the strange and bizarre missing persons cases and so they took it very seriously which intern made us kids take it very seriously as well. Every time I hear one of these unexplainable missing 411 cases, it reinforces my belief that there are several aspects to our reality and our natural world we just don’t fully understand or know about.

A problem I have with many of these stories is how late the scent hounds are often brought in. Most certified scent hounds are trained to consistently find trails less than 48 hours old. After that, while it’s not impossible for them to trail a scent, it becomes much less consistent. It isn’t always that surprising the dogs didn’t find anything.
@TG-fq6vy
@TG-fq6vy Жыл бұрын
Not at all surprising. If it is a predator attack they will also drag and carry their victim. Therefore the scent is broken up. Waterways can play a part. We also have to think about the two legged predators out there as well….psychos

In all seriousness thank you for correcting the mistakes made by Missing 411. If you obsess about these disappearances, as do I, you’ll notice that these types of inconsistencies and omissions are quite frequent…unfortunately. …and the CanAm community, namely Mr. Paulides, isn’t all too receptive when you try to correct these issues in the comment section of a Missing Project video…sometimes they’re even defensive. If the focus is REALLY on understanding the circumstances surrounding these cases, we should be excited to discover new details! But it’s become fairly obvious that the focus of Mr. Paulides (as good as his work may be a majority of the time) is on building a narrative upon which he can sell books. The fact is, the cases loses a lot of mystique when new evidence emerges; it screws up the paranormal angle! But that’s okay, because ultimately we want to know WHAT HAPPENED! We can still entertain speculation about cryptid and paranormal encounters whilst accepting and sharing new evidence…

A very good telling of the story. I didn't know Garrett, but my brother did. I was three years old when he went missing, my brother 10. We are very good friends of the Trotters. Just a few things I wanted to point out-- The Bardsleys are from Spanish Fork- Salem area, about 15-20 minutes south of Provo. You only mentioned this a little bit, but everyone involved in the story is Mormon. I remember Kevin Bardsley coming to talk to us at church about Garrett's disappearance in 2008-ish. Something something about having faith that God knows what he is doing and has a plan for everything. His family believes he was either eaten/cached by a mountain lion or wondered/ran off trail and became lost and later crawled into a small cave or crevice to get out of the weather where he then died.

@@trashcant69I do kind of wonder if he didn't wander off of his own volition. Of course I don't think that its super probable, and obviously there ARE more likely explanations, but sometimes kids do dumb things while exploring. I definitely don't have a perfect explanation for why the fishing pole went missing, but I do kinda wonder if he hadn't gotten distracted by something off trail and thought he might just explore a little longer and then realized he didn't know where he was. He MAYBE had kept the fishing pole on him for a while exploring being worried about not being able to find it again if he put it down if he had been exploring in dense brush. Of course there are definitely more likely scenarios, but I don't think that it should be completely crossed out as a possibility when it comes to finding out what might've happened to a missing kid.

the buddy system is useful for a lot more then just preventing people going missing, gathering fire wood and you get injured alone, start yelling but if you have your buddy he can either help stabilize your injury or go get more help, fall through ice, have fun because that saps your motor functions so you probably arent getting out alone, that happened to a scout in my troop i was his buddy and pulled him out, gave him my jacket and got him back to the fire, attacked by wild life, easier to protect your self or scare it away as two instead of one, though still not a good situation.

As someone who has spent a lot of time in this area, it's really hard to describe how easy it is to get lost in these mountains. The mountains and valleys all look the same. And it's rocky in a way that things blend into the background. There are thousands of little lakes that are surprisingly deep and muddy. There are lots of wild animals too. People get lost and die all the time up here. Sometimes only a mile away from a parking lot. I was up there about four years ago when an older man, who had spent decades camping and hiking in these mountains with his family, got lost on a family camping trip up there. When they found him, he was three miles away and had walked in the opposite direction from the trail. He knew the area but still got lost. Unfortunately he also didn't make it. There are many stories of people being found years later and all that is left is a few bones. This story always broke my heart because his dad was accused of harming Garret by the media. But his dad was so distraught by Garrett's disappearance. The family is correct that he likely was taken by a mountain lion or curled up in a cave that no one found. Everyone in Utah was so sad when this happens. I hope his family has found some peace.

This is one of the cases that made me start taking the possibility of the underground tunnel theory more seriously. I'm still not a full believer in it, but it would help explain a few of these cases. Especially with having been a boy scout myself and knowing what skills I had at 12, this one just doesn't make any sense at all. From pretty much day 1 in scouts we're taught that if you ever get lost, you stay put and make sounds for rescuers to find you. The total lack of any evidence AT ALL makes me believe that he was literally swallowed up by the earth. It could be from something as mundane as a sinkhole and not necessarily some sort of being intending to do us harm. If that makes any sense.

Those of us who have been following for years the events that happen continuously at the Skinwalker Ranch know damn well that there are around us - invisible to our eyes but quite audible to our ears, as close to us as a person walking side by side with us while we believe to be all alone - evil beings endowed with what we consider super-powers stalking humans and ready to snatch their victim the moment they see it all alone...and no one will ever find any trace of him/her again. Gone forever into oblivion. It's happened thousands of times all over the world, and it keeps happening today.

Not going to lie, I got a little teary when you talked about the efforts of the community in trying to provide help to Garrett’s family. I’m from Utah as well, and my brothers and dad would go on these scouting trips all the time. It makes my blood run cold to even imagine anything like this happening to them while they were gone. I know you mentioned it, and I saw another comment talking about this but that community aspect is a big part of the Mormon church, and it’s heartwarming to see that even for all of the church’s faults there are still so many members who become aware of others in need and immediately jump in and do what they can to help. I know that there’s people like that all over as well, regardless of religion and whatnot but seeing a case so close to home really got to me haha.

He was fishing about 150 yards from camp where everyone else was. His father watched him make it about halfway back which means he was only about 75 yards or so from camp when he went missing and nobody heard or saw anything as is typical with these cases. And with him being that close it leaves a fairly small search area to find him and Not a single fiber of evidence found with over 500+ people looking at times. dogs cant trace a scent of his existence at all, no fishing pole and after all these years still no body. An animal attack would have been loud and messy leaving tons of evidence of a life and death struggle. An abduction would be basically impossible without someone seeing something. If he got lost and wandered off (which seems extremely unlikely with him being 75yards from camp which is easily in eye sight) why no scent trail at all and how far could he have went? Wouldn't 500+ people plus search dogs and helicopters find him in a 5mile radius? Again after years no body and not a single piece of evidence ever has been found. I thought maybe he accidentally drowned but then his body would have been found floating. I dont know what happened but what I do know is that these cases are crazy. Alot of them are explainable but theres definitely some that defy explanation. Theres one where a few guys are walking through the woods together and one guy keeps turning around every 2 mins or so to check on the last guy and make sure hes good. They were walking single file only a few feet apart. Next time he turns around the guy is gone. Never heard a sound. NOTHING just gone. They find one of the guys boots stuck in a barbed wire fence. Never saw him again. A grown man that's armed didnt get abducted especially a few feet away from his buddies. An animal would have made so much noise and would have to be huge to drag him away and they would have saw and heard the whole thing and saved him. So wtf happened to him? Alright I'm done.

Not all animal attacks would do all those things. Plenty of big cats kill, take to a safe place, and eat. And they're stealthy predators who go for the neck. You may not even know theres one nearby until it's teeth are in your neck. Someone else in the comments had a brother and his mother get stalked by presumably a cougar and followed. They only realised when they found the tracks walking back. They had no idea they were being hunted. Animals like that also wait for a moment when they're alone to strike. Garret may have been watched since waking that morning, and the moment he was alone was struck.

The woods are thick, and sound does not carry very well. I think the poor kid simply missed his camp site and kept walking, or turned at the wrong time thinking he recognized some area. The way the grass grows up there makes it very hard to see things like old fallen trees and such. The poor kid probably walked until he slipped and fell, or tripped over a log and hit his head. tragic story all around.

The adult leaders would put a kid in charge, keep a head count, and try to be back by a certain time (usually lunch or dinner) and if you did get lost you sit and wait, don't look for shelter cuz you can get distracted and lost that way. Also don't yell non stop, yell, wait a couple minutes, yell again and you keep doing that. If your vocal cords are getting strained get a stick and smack it against a tree. Its loud as hell and can be heard pretty far. Main thing is just stay calm, and don't wander. Also water is much more important than food. Everything else is up to luck.

If this disappearance happened in an area with a number of lakes, why were the lakes not searched? Would it not be possible that he wandered off and went fishing elsewhere seeing as his rod was also never recovered? Also, if the reason he went back to camp in the first place was he got his socks and shoes wet, then that shows he could easily have stumbled into the water elsewhere and disappeared. Despite searchers passing over him a number of times, he likely stumbled and couldn't get up, succumbed to the elements. For reference the Uinta's are pronounced You-in-ta's. Keep up the good work, I've been enjoying your content.

Part of me wonders if there's any mines or caves/underground tunnels in the area and he maybe fell down a well hidden opening. If he was injured, knocked out or even killed by such a fall, that would explain why they never heard him cry out. He'd disappear fast- it'd be like the ground just swallowed him- be trapped easily, and it would be difficult to find.

As someone who used to be a Boy Scout, if I got lost with my fishing pole, I would definitely keep it with me. I could use it to get food, And i could use the line for many different survival situations. Personally, I wonder if he had wandered off the trail on purpose to look at something he found curious. I know myself and several of my friends would sometimes do this even though it was incredibly stupid. One time we wandered maybe 100 feet from the main trail, and we almost lost our sense of direction to the point where we would have kept walking away from the camp. Thankfully, we found a break on the tree line where we saw smoke from the campsite a few miles away and were able to use that as a guide to understand our location make it back to the main trail.

All of these missing 411 cases are one of two things. Foul play, or animal predation after foul play. It’s that simple. Aliens aren’t abducting people. Big foot isn’t real. These people are being murdered by other people and then the original story is made up. Hence why nothing makes sense.

What sticks out to me is that his father had to yell directions to him as he was walking back to the camp. He watched him to make sure he was taking the right path. This leads me to believe that he simply got lost and eventually succumbed to the elements. Once his panic set in, there’s no telling how many miles he covered trying to find the campsite. Great video. I was in the Boy Scouts back in the late 70s and was an assistant Scout master in the early 80s. One of the campgrounds we used to go to was at Grayson Lake resort park near Grayson KY. We would park the cars and hike into the camp site about 2 miles. We would regularly run around at night playing capture the flag and basically hid and seek. We would be running around alone in the woods at night. we didn't use a buddy system. We never gave a thought to running into anything in the woods.

In high stress situations it is extremely common to deathgrip whatever is in your hands. You hyper focus on whatever is causing the stress and do conciously register the sensory inputs from your hands. You see it often with police or soldiers getting into sudden life or death confrontations (like holding their morning coffee while engaging in a gunfight). Garret definitely could have carried the fishing pole with him if he ran off thinking he was being chased.

I feel terrible thinking it, but one can’t help but wonder if the circumstances were maybe slightly different- could the father have lost track of time, left garret alone, or some other mistake? And then fudged the truth to make himself seem less culpable? The story does just strike me as odd. Not saying he did anything nefarious, maybe just didn’t relay the story perfectly. The simple explanation for why Garret couldn’t be found after so shortly going missing is that it wasn’t where/when he actually disappeared. Either way I hope he’s found and the family can get some answers eventually.

He was taken by a mountain lion. They can kill deer, even adults, with very little blood. Mountain lions usually drag their prey away immediately. The boy was probably dragged to higher ground and then up into a tree. MLs have been observed pulling adult deer up into trees. The fishing rod: perhaps it was caught up during the struggle. It likely went with him up into the tree.

As he was just going to go change his socks and shoes have a bit of breakfast and then go back to meet up with his dad again to continue fishing. So to me that just sticks out as odd that he would take his fishing pole with him rather then leave it with his dad who we as still fishing while he was gone. And where he planned to come back to so they could continue fishing?!?! And lastly being that his father was the last person to see him before he disappeared.... Was the father ever questioned or investigated as the mostly likely suspect in the boys disappearance or did they just take him at his word with the story and only ever considered it a missing persons case??!!??

I've heard this story told from multiple KZbin channels and the All make it sound like the camp was literally in sight once you turned that corner and that there was a road from the fishing spot to the camp. A person is so small, and nature is so vast.. Chances are he was frightened by something and ran off into the unknown. Perhaps he may have been chased, therefore he went far and did not stop until he could not continue. If he was in fact chased by an animal then he may have ran and encountered a body of water, then perhaps had the tragic thought that if he were to go out into the water the predator will not follow him in. What about the other scouts? Was there ever any investigation into the possibility that either a prank gone wrong or some other form of human interaction may have caused this scenario to unfold? Or is it that because they are Mormon and in the scouts that they are above suspicion?

@@katemaloney4296 there are many lakes in the area, they were fishing at one obviously. If he was killed, intentionally or accidentally, then weighed down and put in to the lake, it could explain why the dogs had no scent to follow out of the area. The dogs would only have the scent of him in camp and around the lake with nothing to follow. We know he got his shoes wet. An angry abusive father giving him a backhand for "ruining his shoes" could have killed him and everything after that outburst explained by a guilty father. Specifically speaking to the fishing pole, the father could have chucked it into the lake to make it look like Garrett walked back with it. Which btw is something I'm not sure a kid "running back to change his shoes, eat, and come back" would have done anyways.

Probably not paranormal, like many missing cases where we end up finding the answers, such as the female hiker who went missing… dogs couldn’t find her scent, was found a few months later under a rock slide after a few rocks had been displaced… the guy who went missing in the desert, seemingly out of no where, found awhile later down a random well that had long been covered by brush, that was very accidentally discovered because somebody else almost fell in it, or the hunter who went missing when a rock sheered off and crushed him found a long time later. There probably an explanation that’s outside the box

This poor boy! And those poor parents! These cases break my heart when it involves children. As a parent, you cant help but think about how scared they must have been, or really just any terrible possibility runs through your mind. And i can imagine this was true for his parents also. Im sure they even still feel this way to this day. So they are absolutely in my prayers. I pray they find some kind of peace and maybe even some kind of answer to help ease their minds and their hearts. Im glad they had a whole community rallying behind them for this so they didn't have to face this tragedy alone. While i lean more towards a paranormal explanation, maybe he walked through some form of open window or doorway between our world and another, i also think i probably prefer that possibility over the other options. As unlikely as it might be, it's definitely more comforting (as comforting as it can be in these cases) than the other possibilities such as kidnapping or predators grabbing him or even freezing or starving to death. Idk. Its really hard to say when it comes to these cases. Thats what makes them so captivating i think.

Some extra (alleged) info: people are saying there's a lot of old mine shafts in that area, possible to fall down them, or to seek shelter and get lost/fall down inside them. I also read one self-proclaimed volunteer (so pinch of salt required) said there was a very unassuming looking stream, that another searcher through a 4ft log into (they were bored whilst waiting for another search team to catch up to them) and it completely disappeared and didn't resurface. I am trying to see if anyone claiming to be involved will clarify exact locations. ETA: Some things that really bother me about this case. 1. We only have his father as a witness. 2. The father alleges he missed the trail and he had to shout instructions, but didn't think to get up/go with. 3. There is now an approximate map someone who was compiling data created, you can also see pictures taken by people along this route. The terrain is rough, the trail difficult to make out, and there's no way you can see someone on the trail for anywhere near the alleged distance the father claimed to have watched him. 4. He should have been able to hear the campground even if he couldn't see it, if there's a load of boys running around playing games. 5. The father says he headed back to camp after his son didn't return, he says he heard a faint 'Dad?' but didn't call out as it was the wrong direction- I get people make mistakes, but you know your son struggled to find a trail, you kept shouting instructions to help him find it, and when he doesn't show you are worried enough to go looking, BUT NOT TO RESPOND TO THIS, even if it was the 'wrong direction' - at this point you don't know he's not lost on the way back. Nor do you know it isn't someone else's lost child, but you don't reply, at all?! 6. You set up a foundation to help other lost people, with pages of dedicated information for each if them, you don't put any information about your son/his case on it. 7. Why take the fishing rod? He's coming back to fish with you, why would he carry the rod to camp and back? Maybe this guy is just a moron, I just really hope someone fully checked out his story. Also I just found a comment from someone alledging they were a searcher, who says it was #2 lake they fished at, and were camped in a meadow between #1 and #2. Which does make some sense as there's really no good area to pitch up around #4 that you can see on any photos anyway. This could make some of the photo evidence less valid, but there seems to ve no consistency I can find about which lake is genuinely which.

Two possibilities: 1-Garrett drowned in one of the several lakes and his body sank to the bottom, which is why they need to search these lakes with sonar and divers. 2-Garrett became lost on the way back to the campsite, kept walking/wandering, and arrived at the closest main road. Here a driver offered him help and abducted him.

Since his dad was the only one to see him last, how do we know he didn’t do something to Garrett? That always bothers me when there’s no one else around.

Just an idea.... what if he went the wrong way initially intentionally? He had to be corrected to walk back and turn towards the camp. Perhaps after turning out of sight he walked off the trail to correct course to his original course. Kept the fishing pole as an alibi to not be at camp but wet shoes for not being fishing. Could have had plans to meet up with someone considering teenager and end of summer, turning into a possible ''voluntary'' kidnapping or run away situation

I think the kid just got lost. His dad even had to shout at him, within viewing distance, that Garret was heading the wrong way to camp. If he had little education about forests and survivability, as seems to be the case, it can be extremely easy for a kid to become lost. The situation deteriorated as time went on and, while I don’t know every aspect of the story and location, I can’t say that it was an animal or much less something “paranormal” which caused his complete disappearance. He probably was holding on to the fishing pole but he might not have been able to find a place to fish or something kept him from trying. Given the relatively harsh climate, he might not have been alive after 2 or 3 days, and especially after it snowed.

We are told he vanished on the short walk back but only have one person saying this. As they left early to fish, nobody knew where he was for many hours and possibly the night before. If Garrett planned to return why did he take his rod with him and not leave it with his father? That's what most people would do. The story seems suspect from the very opening if you look at it as foul play.

Just found this channel yesterday and I love it! I am a senior doing my undergrad in history with a minor in medieval studies and I am currently looking at masters programs in medieval history so it is incredibly inspiring to see someone going into my field and applying their skills to their passions. I really needed to see that! From one medievalist to another, keep up the excellent work!

If you ever run out of interesting 411 cases or just get burnt out on them you should consider covering cave accident stories. I think your style of storytelling would be a refreshing take on it. Most youtubers who cover that sort of thing do it in a documentary style without facecam with stock footage, and I think a more personal approach would be nice to see. Although, there isn't much mystery to those accidents usually so it might not fit your style completely

i dont know ever fact of course, but its shocking to hear a more complete story than those fiction channels. thanks for being truthful about tragedies like this. im thinking he may have tried to run like you said, and then took shelter where the dogs cant keep his scent, but a wild animal found him. this could explain a lot of missing 411 cases. i dont know enough about people who HAVE been found or survived to say for certain that someone could just make 1 bad decision under pressure, and statistically, some of these people will be difficult to find and some of those simply wont be.

Im not sure if its a national standard within BSA but the patrol leader telling the boys to look as though it is life or death was definitely how seriously we treated it in my district. In fact the moment a troop realized they were missing a single person, not just a pair, the search was on. Immediately camp staff would check with other troops to see if they too had one boy missing, because that was a decent sign that maybe those two boys met at a merit badge class or something and paired up there. As part of my lifeguard/swim instructor training we were actually taught how to do body checks in the water and if a kid went missing, all swim staff had 15 min to ready up at the lake we used and if the boy had not been found in that time, we would start performing a body check across the length of the lake. Another instance, I was one of 4 patrol leaders at national jamboree and had one boy, from my patrol, not show up to a meet up point after an event. I was admittedly not taking it too seriously, the head scoutmaster had the SPL cut off my patrol leader patch and told me I could earn it back when I found the boy and if I did not find him in 15 minutes, I would lose Patrol Leader status entirely for the duration of the trip. Thankfully I found him in 5 minutes by the porta jons, trading patches with another scout. After a verbal lashing, the Scoutmaster sowed my patch back on and i gave that boy and his buddy dish duty, which i helped them with since it was my fault too. Needless to say, we took missing scouts very serious.
