I can't recall you ever visiting an authentic Chinese restaurant, and you certainly didn't change that trend today, Lee.
@richardgelber2740 Жыл бұрын
There are authentic ones in certain parts of NYC, but you might have to get someone to order for you, because most of the menu is in Chinese.

Pricey! Up in the suburbs of Toronto aka Richmond Hill/ Markham, you could comfortably feed 6 people with lobster, steamed whole fish, sweet and sour pork and Peking duck for you what guys paid. Downside cash only and the special menu is only written in Chinese.

You need to find some better local experts, Lee! I am reminded of the New York guy I used to work with (when I lived there) who rated Chinese food via the crisp noodles found in their hot & sour soup (not the soup itself). You are in one of the best Chinese food cities in the universe and they drag you out to THAT joint! (Although the Sopranos Title Sequence-like footage was good.) I reiterate: McSorley's Old Ale House, weekday lunch, about 1130am! ""Two Dark, and a Large Cheese plate." ----Mike

Hi Lee! Hello again to Danien and Big Dave 👋 nothing wrong with Tractor boy. He’s just got a dry sense of humour. Loved your 360 view while travelling today. To the food - quite expensive a meal out but you got great a quantity of meat there. Can’t say I liked the look of any starters myself but that’s personal preference. I was thinking the same about the duck crepes - would be better served like in Uk crispy duck with pancakes and the sauce, Spare ribs looked quite nice to me. Didn’t realise they were too dry. Dave’s vehicle is a beast. Take care 😘👍🏻

Macca - authenticity aside (Sushi Cheeseburgers French Fries etc on menu?) - real issue for me was this. The best part of eating in China - and other Asia too for that matter - is that dining is always what the Americans would call “family style” rather than European style “that’s my dish”. Everything communal in table - eat as much or as little of every dish as you want - individual tastes vary. Genius - sharing communally and you have variety and ability to dodge what you don’t like. Would have solved for your orange chicken!😂

My brief history of cold sesame noodles: First introduced to NYC in about 1968 at Szechuan Taste in Chinatown. It was actually well-known for that dish, along with Ta-Chien Chicken and Tsien-Tao beer (which nobody had ever heard of before). Fast forward to the present, and many if not most Chinese restaurants in America have cold sesame noodles, including all that claim to be Szechuan (or Sichuan) or Hunan. Amount of peanut flavor varies. I knew a couple of places that featured warm sesame noodles, but it's much rarer.

I’ve just got back from The USA and felt the food I had very underwhelming, expensive too. My own local upscale cafe much nicer. I remember when I first visited a long time ago I was in awe and the food seemed so good. The food you’re having looks good apart from the duck, after feeding my local ducks just couldn’t touch it! Nice having a meal with friends.

Another great upload, Lee! I've been off YT for a while, so hope you and your family had a great Christmas and New Year. Great to see you back in NYC. Big Dave is absolutely brilliant! I said it before, and will say it again... he should have his own You Tube channel. Has a great personality, relates the places he recommends to his personal experiences, and has a real passion for food! Looks like he knows all the best places in New York for top food. Yes, this Chinese he recommended was pricey, and yes, there were some things they didn't do quite right (100% agree regarding the duck), and yes, the menu was too extensive... but you could've done a lot worse! Also, great to see Damien back. He's a good lad too. I'll go with Damien's score for this: 7.8/10 👍

Their website says “ fine dining Japanese casual restaurant “ . It’s neither fine dining or Japanese , although casual it most certainly is . Should be done under the trades description act if there such a thing in the USA . Looked rubbish at fining dining prices would be a more accurate description . As Harry Enfield would say “ shite and shite “ . 3/10 at best .
