Had electric - gone back to petrol would not go back - I now have hybrid. Refuelling takes 5 minutes and almost anywhere in contrast to the driving around trying to find an electric charger point that was actually working or that I needed yet another app to connect too. The other problem that you have is the time to charge is ridiculous - who has hours to sit and wait around for it to charge - the manufacturer tells you do not sit in the vehicle whilst charging. So if you leave your vehicle you can come back to find you have been unplugged and someone else has taken the cable. And before you say that cant happen - it can. Hit the emergency stop on the charger and it disconnects the cable from the vehicle - plug in to your car reset the e-stop and you can then charge your own vehicle.

I just counted 38, before adding another 10 Tesla at Annesley and another 12 Tesla at McArthur Glen. Didn't bother counting up all the others in the surrounding vicinity either. Is there enough? Doesn't need to be yet, another decade or two. It's an interesting scenario in that for a town with a majority of homes with drives, potentially the entire town might be ok without a single ultra rapid. Then on the flip side, completely the opposite. Where my mum lives, not a single ultra rapid, nothing faster than 7kW. Then again, the entire town now only has one filling station left.

@ hi, yes, to be fair to Lee, I hadn’t really thought about people with disabilities accessing chargers. We have two EVs, one forced on us through work, and the other bought because I’m going to save as much fuel money as I can before the powers that be tax the hell out of EVs too. I’ve driven one for three years , and had so many issues with chargers in the cold weather, and most chargers in north wales are not great for access. Even the Tesla chargers that I go to are often flooded. The other issue nobody talks about, is that most other brands have their charging ports on the opposite side to Tesla’s, and when they use Tesla chargers they effectively take up two spaces. The whole system is not fit for purpose, thankfully I have an old faithful be golf tdi as back up

Hi, Lee, Leeds bus driver here (we've spoken briefly before), nice to see you started off in my home town of Pudsey there.. you may have noticed we have ev buses in Leeds now (big push, govt funded of course). On the subject of how the temperature affects battery life- I have been driving an ev bus today. After 7hrs on the road (approx 90 miles) it had used 75% battery and supposedly needed to be on the road another 8hrs. Obviously not gonna happen and lots of unhappy people will have no bus turning up. These ev buses weigh approx 3- 3.5 tonnes more than the equivalent diesels. So around 4 tonnes of batteries for around 120 miles of range, in the cold.. And they want to mandate this crap. To steal someone else's quote "future? My a**e".

Same problem with electric Royal Mail vans in Bradford, (again government funded). Initial mileage was quoted as close to 200 miles however, that is on the flat with the wind behind you on a warm day in an empty van with no radio, A.C. And no lights. Reality is very different with drivers advised not to use radio, heating etc and mileage is about 130 if your lucky once loaded. Plus at times of the year vans are needed 24/7 impossible when a third of the day is spent charging.

@@shuaibq Why on earth did you spend £150,000 on a car without doing your homework. After 24 months my 1st service was under £50 for labour, parts and VAT and was done at my house. 2 years after that, in March, it will be a little more as I’ll be having the wheels swapped around to optimise tyre wear. This is not the car for you and would be put off EV for live but if this was done wright you would like it. I have two reps who come in the shop were I work and have Tesla cars and would not move back to there diesel cars they had before. This is why people do not like EV because of bad decisions and not understanding about charging, the a man on KZbin who drive the same as your Scotland to Manchester using the Skoda try look it up and watch it.

When it is really cold, a big percentage of the power you draw goes into warming the battery to allow it to actually charge. If it were at a US home, 120 volt charging at 15 amps basically does nothing overnight. It keeps the battery warm. But may end up adding only 5 miles of range (overnight)...at 240 volts, you will actually get double at least...

As a professional driver having driven just about every type of vehicle I can tell you electric cars are a nightmare. If you do any kind of mileage other than just running around town near to where you live then from my experience they are absolutely hopeless. Live in a flat? impossible. Do high mileage daily? - impossible. Care to pay insurance premium that is somewhere not being a nightmare financially? - impossible. So sort the impossibles then and maybe they are feasible. The technology is still in its infancy. The infrastructure for charging is ridiculous. Safety for women at charging stations waiting to charge unacceptable. Period.

One of the things I wonder. As we travel the back streets we all at some time have seen ICE vehicles long abandoned covered in lichen that they have been there so long. A decade or two on is that reality for EV's too. Will they in that state be more dangerous than the ICE equivalents. Will they be more common that ICE because of repair costs.

How long before all charging stations look like that? Fully automatic zero staff, no other services. There are currently 8,353 petrol stations in the UK according to Statista, let's say they each employ a minimum of 3 staff on various shifts (lots of them have many more). That's 25,000 people who are going to be unemployed. Factor in another 15-25 K people who stock those service stations with sweets, sandwiches, fizzy pop, newspapers, screen wash etc. That's 40,000 to 50,000 lower paid jobs gone to be replaced with what? Is Doris who works behind the local petrol station checkout supposed to retrain as a wind turbine engineer? Absolute madness.

Two things. Just recently a Tesla Cybetruck was used as a car 💥 in the USA. The 💥 was contained in the truck and probably saved lives and injury and the battery did not catch fire! On another occasion another Tesla crashed at 100mph into a wall. Again the battery did not catch fire. So just like ICE cars some accidents will cause a fire and some won't.

@SnowyAspenHills
@SnowyAspenHills Күн бұрын
@@1066sharpy This is what I thought but having done some reading up on it seems this may not be the case. Oil refining to Diesel and petrol uses a lot of electricity and this demand is dropping. Heavy industry has reduced as well further reducing demand. Smart metering and consequently charging at night would also help. More power storage is being built and of course lots of renewable energy resources also being built. I’m still sceptical that at high demand times there wouldn’t have to be some regulation on charging. It’s a shame more new houses aren’t being built with solar, this should be mandatory in my opinion. Some developers put solar on roofs but only a minimum amount, in 2030 a European mandate will make it compulsory ut in the UK I’m guessing that wouldn’t apply to us.
