For travel packing lists I find it better to create a template. I can then create a new list for a trip by selecting the template and everything is ready to go. I also use templates for projects at work that have to be done a couple of times each year. I place the steps in a template and when the project needs to be done again I can create a reminder form the template with all the necessary steps to complete the project already set up. Personally, I think being able to create templates is one of the most powerful features of the reminders app. Really enjoy your content!

Hey Dylan. I recently started using Reminders in a big way to simplify my life, and ditch the scraps of paper with any to dos. I've gotten pretty good with this, but still appreciate your detailed video. I thought I was deep in the ecosystem before, but now with Reminders I'm really in deep. The syncing across all of my devices is great. Now if I could just get my wife to ditch the paper grocery list, that always seems to be forgotten at home, I'd be maximizing reminders. Sigh
@TheMacWhisperer7 ай бұрын
Good luck... I would start a grocery list on your phone, and share it to her phone without telling her, then whenever you see the scrap of paper with the grocery list add it to reminders (using Siri makes it super easy and might even impress her). Then the next time she is at the grocery store and forgets the list, have her pull it up on her phone and she will be shocked... and possibly even converted. Make sure to teach her how to use Siri to add items. That was what converted my wife and she will never go back!

You are doing a great job. Please advise when to use Tags and Flags in Reminders. Secondly where to use Calendar and for what tasks to use Reminders (because both have time and date)
@TheMacWhisperer2 ай бұрын
So I have several videos about Reminders… And I have some new ones that will be coming shortly. When it comes to using tags I recommend it when you have a generic category for your reminders that might be in multiple lists. For example I have a tag for my wife, because some of my reminders are about things I want to purchase for her, but some of my reminders are about things that I want to do with her, or things I need to do for her. That way by having a Julie tag I can find those reminders quickly Regardless of what less they are in. As far as when to use Reminders versus when to use calendars, that’s an easy answer for me. To me, calendar is an event that must happen at a particular day, time, place or with a specific person. In other words an appointment that is not just Floating but must happen no matter what. For me reminders are things that can happen on that day, but it’s not a dealbreaker. If I don’t pick up the Drycleaning on Thursday I can still pick it up on Friday, but if I don’t make it to my doctor appointment on Thursday, I’m going to get Bill for a “no-show”. Hopefully that helps… Thanks for watching!

I use "Reminders" all the time, and never knew (probably) three of the tips you had. One I use throughout my day is I ask Siri to remind me at a specific time (like in a half hour, or at 6:00 am, or every day at 5:00), and they stack up in a scrollable list of post-it notes on my lock screen. I swipe them away when they're complete and when their all swiped, I know I'm not forgetting anything.

It's really easy to do. Just create a reminder for each bill and choose the deadline that fits your schedule, usually a few days before it's actually due. 📅 Then click the repeating option to have it alert you every month moving forward. 🔄 When you get the alert on your phone, iPad, or computer, take care of the bill and then mark the reminder as completed. ✅ You will be ready for the next bill the following month. 💸

But click on the emoticon and you get a popup of the entire email to take action on!! Game changer for my email box.

Yes, I absolutely love that trick. You can also do it by Siri on your phone by saying "remind me about this" while the email is open. I don't use it a lot, though because I would prefer to remove things from the mail app whenever possible, especially if it's information I need access to. If I need to be reminded to respond to an email, I can do that from the Mac mail program directly… But reminders are a nice additional way to do it! Thanks for watching!

Could you explain how you use and organize “This Week” “This Month” & “Someday” lists?
@TheMacWhisperer6 ай бұрын
I manually created those lists to separate urgent matters (this week) from things that need to happen but are not immediate or time-sensitive (This Month), from things that would be nice but are non-essential and sometimes just long-term wishes/dreams (Someday). The "This Week" list used to be called "Today," but then Apple created an Automatic List named Today, so I had to rename it. I go through the "This Week" list daily. It is also my default list, so whenever I create a new reminder (without specifying a specific list), it goes there, and I file it when I go through that list each morning. When I go through it, I move things to other lists (including the "This Month" and "Someday" lists, as well as lists like my "To Purchase" or "Date Night." At the end of each month, I audit the "This Month" list and remove or reassign anything that no longer fits. I go through the "This Month" list about once every week or two (when I have time) and try to knock things off that list. I check the Someday list sporadically. It's a bunch of "Nice Ideas," but most of them will have to wait until there is enough bandwidth for them. Things like a few of the books I want to write, or the new courses I want to create... Hope that helps!!!!

I used to use reminders to organize my groceries list by the aisles I encountered as I walked through the store. But the new version resorted my list by departments. Example, when I enter the store, I am in the produce area, but the first item I usually buy are sandwich meats. They are in the aisle at the back of the store after I go through produce. The new version of reminders would not bring them up until 3/4ths of the way around the store if I followed the sorting of the app. Not practical. So now I have to create a list in notes in the shopping order that reflects when I get to them as I go through the store. This means I have to think about the mental map of the store as I create my list. Oh, how much easier it was with the old way reminders worked.
@NOLA_ftw7 ай бұрын
You can change the list type to “Standard” instead of “Groceries” to disable the automatic sorting. I also prefer to manually sort my grocery lists. (Within an existing list, click the 3 dots in the top right, then “Show List Info”, then change the list type)
@TheMacWhisperer7 ай бұрын
As @NOLA_ftw mentioned, you can easily turn off the Grocery Sort feature by going into the list info and changing it back to a standard list. This way it will not automatically sort... but you can create colums and manually sort by Aisles in the order you go through your grocery store. It will take some manual work, but once you have a good system set up it will be infinitely easier than doing it through Notes.

What would be the best place to remind me about certain KZbin content? For example, I want to remember this video in case I forget one or two of the steps. Would Reminders and Siri be a good way to do it? I'm excited to give this a try!
@TheMacWhisperer7 ай бұрын
So this is a really interesting question, and something I go into depth on in my monthly classes and with my one on one clients. On the computer, there is a place for everything… So you want to use the tools properly. I use Notes (rather than Reminders) for any long form documents that I want to refer back to and be able to search through. So when I am taking a class or a course, I use the Notes app to keep track of everything that I am learning so I can easily re-read it anytime I want. But if I want to keep track of a bunch of KZbin videos or other online content (Since those are inherently websites) I use Safari, and specifically Safari tab groups to save organize and keep track of those videos. (Check out THIS VIDEO to learn more about Tab Groups: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYTamZ14g52hga8) KZbin has some of its own tools like lists you can use to organize things, but I prefer doing it myself either with Notes (where I would write down all the lessons and possibly the link to the video) or Safari tab groups, where I could watch the videos anytime I want and close the tab when I feel I have fully processed and understood the lesson. Reminders isn't quite the place for that because I use reminders for information that will eventually get completed, like a grocery list or a packing list… Not for videos that I want to go back to and keep Notes on to remember the specific lessons. I hope that helps 😃!

Hi, I saw you ask this question on a different video as well. Can you tell me more about what you're trying to do? Notes and reminders are not the same program and shouldn't be used as the same program. Have you checked out this video that I created explaining the difference between the two? kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH7JqGSKjMelbtE For me, reminders make it easier to accomplish and get things done by prompting me and making it simple to cross things off. Notes makes it easy for me to reference large pieces of information and keep track of big projects... occasionally using checklists to accomplish things, but not in the same way I do with reminders. Hopefully that helps. If not, please give me some more specifics about what you're trying to accomplish, and I can point you in the right direction.

The one thing I hate about using Siri is even if I think of the thing I want to be reminded about before I prompt her, I tend to fumble on my words and Siri just cuts off, leaving my with an incomplete reminder, or if I tell her to cancel cause I’m still thinking she will make a reminder called “remember to cancel” or something like that.. I have been creating my own system with shortcuts so I can just use speak to text. (I also feel like a goober using Siri in public. ) I recently discovered a Siri voice command “remind me about this” so if I’m looking at my note or something it will create a reminder with a link to that note. Usually voice commands can be used in the shortcuts app, but I can’t find how to apply this one to a shortcut. Do you happen to know how? Thanks in advance :)
@TheMacWhisperer11 күн бұрын
I don’t use many Siri shortcuts because I find that the app functions well enough for me. My biggest tip for using Siri rather than using your voice press and hold your button (the right side button or the home button on the earlier models) and keep holding it while you talk. This will prevent it from cutting off while you’re in the middle of things and in my opinion makes her infinitely more useful. The other thing I teach people about Siri is to start with what you want her to do, and then add the when where or how. So saying remind me… On December 24 works better than saying remind me December 24 to… Once you master using the Siri button to trigger her rather than using your voice you’ll find that everything works better because she keeps listening until you let go of the button rather than her stopping listening when you pause to take a breath. To me that is the biggest Mistake people make when they’re using Siri is to just use their voice.
@TheMacWhisperer11 күн бұрын
The Remind me about this function is super valuable, and I use all the time… But again I don’t know how to tie it into shortcuts because I just don’t find much of a need for the shortcuts. One of the funniest things for me is watching people create hundreds and hundreds of shortcuts manually when Siri did it on her own without the shortcut. Play around with using your button to trigger her and I’ll bet you’ll have better results.

@TheMacWhisperer4 ай бұрын
I hear you and understand your comment, but I personally don't want it combined. They are separate animals... when you combine tools, you usually limit both rather than expanding them. They serve VERY different functions. Check out this video for some of the different ways they get used and their separate pluses and minuses. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH7JqGSKjMelbtE The problem with combining multiple tools into one is that you get a Swiss army knife... sure it's got a corkscrew and tweezers and a bottle opener and a knife... but sometimes you just need a good steak knife, not a dull pocket knife. Microsoft loves bundling apps (think about the unbelievable complexity of Outlook), and Apple likes to let each tool shine and work together rather than being forced together. This year, we will get reminders integrated into the calendar, and I believe it will significantly harm the Reminders experience as it was designed... not improve it. In my opinion, if you learn how to use these tools properly, you will fully understand that they are each brilliant, but like a hammer and a screwdriver, they serve different purposes.

I don't use anything else anymore. If you haven't watched it, check out this video too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXSuZGlso86Mack

Hi Dylan 👕Biagio here. Great tips again. I passed this to my wife also.she loved it. The reminders app is really underestimated. And Siri help is awesome. One extra topic question for you if I may: I have a bunch of ( A LOT ) of “stickers” I created of my great-granddaughter (8months) pictures that I attach to messages, or emails. Is there a way to access, to save etc to file or otherwise shareble to create collages, etc. ? Thanks in advance Stay safe Friend BB 👕😎🫶❤️

Hi Biagio! My suggestion for the stickers is to use Pages, Freeform or even a random Photo in Photos to create the collage. Unfortunately there is easy way to organize the Stickers yet, but I have put many of the photos I used to create the sticker in their own photo album so I can pull them up from the album quickly. Glad you enjoyed the video!!!! Keep watching!
