Hall was a player on loan last season. I remember there was some reports saying its not a given that hall would be a permanent signing for us. I think as soon as hall's transfer was permanent, EH would have played him. The real reason he played a small part last season was he wasn't a full fledged Newcastle player, I think. I know about the option in the loan, but you can look back at articles with EH himself saying the deal wasn't certain

Shearer answered this in the last "Rest Is Football." Last time 3 toon players in the England team was apparently 1997 = Shearer, Rob Lee + D. Batty (v Georgia).

The simple reason why hardly any Toon players played for England is glaringly obvious. Gormless Gareth who played for and then managed The Smoggies showed a blatant bias against us. This was ridiculous and worked against our national team's interests. He'd rather copy his obvious idol - the Corbridge Cabbage and serve up excrutiatingly dull defencive football. So when Lee Carsley took over - bang! - our three best young players made their mark. As for that Septic Smoggie - no Premiership club worth their salt would employ him even as a toilet cleaner. Wor Eddie is not only the best tactitian in the PL but is also the master of nurturing and developing new raw talent

I think Marc Guehi probably did want a move in the Summer, he can hardly come out and say it though.You have to remember Palace did sell his central defensive partner so it was always going to take him a little time to adjust.He payed well for England in the Nations Cup, he would still be a very good signing.
