Try superglue on ground up styrofoam or by dripping it onto the Styrofoam and using the melted drippings as a filler/glue. Or superglue and cigarette ashes. Or cotton. Or steel wool threads and glue dripped onto styrofoam so it melts the styrofoam into a liquid and using the liquid drippings to fill cracks/. And for extra sturdy and strong plastic…add steel wool fibers. The baking soda is good but styrofoam is even better. With steel wool fibers it’s extremely solid and sturdy.

Apparently super glue and powdered graphite (sandpaper against a carpenters pencil lead) will form much stronger bonds than with baking soda which is pretty impressive. Persumably the same would be true for granulated charcoal and super glue as the carbon bonds to super glue shold be the same. Charcoal is more expensive than baking soda, butnot so bad at 5 or 10 lb containers.

I've seen it done with a few foodstuffs, usually breakfast cereals like wheat biscuits. I've used SG and flour to shore up pulled-through screw holes. Is baking soda inherently better in some way? @@Grandude77 there does seem to be a chemical reaction with baking powder but I think the graphite is just a filler, what Carlos de says about the carbon bonds may be true which is why it is so strong. I know the SG (cyanoacrylate) sets with moisture and certainly damping wood before going works well, do it in advance and wipe it to encourage the glue penetration, but I don’t know the chemistry.
