Nazis would be more likely to alter the statue with their iconography and messaging. I know, not as cinematic, but still.

Nah. The sculptor was a Freemason and thus the statue is degenerate art. A minor alteration wouldn't change that is was conceived by a deviant mind. And it's a symbol of resistance and evidence of a pre-Reich world. It's gotta go.

@@Korijenkins1414 Yeah MITHC honestly pushes the Nazis to comic book villain status rather than the villains they actually would be if they won in real life. There's literally no incentive in destroying numerous, highly important, historical artifacts twenty years after the war. Sure, the kids probably won't care since they've been indoctrinated, but most adults would be pissed and it would lead to wider spread rebellion. If it was real life, the Nazis probably would've changed the meaning of "Liberty" to suit their deranged ideology rather than destroying historical artifacts altogether. These scenes were meant to invoke emotion, but it honestly gets to the point where it just seems like evil for the sake of being evil.

It was this scene which made me realize the sheer magnitude of the battle the resistance had in front of them. Not only would they have to defeat the resources of the Japanese Empire and Nazi Reich, but the millions of children and adults who had been raised in the Reich. They didn't know freedom or the United States, and would loyally fight to preserve the Reich. Not only would the resistance be fighting for freedom, but for the souls and minds of North America.

As someone from Poland I can assure you this is pure fiction. In reality, if we can talk about the reality here as it is a movie, but conquering souls and minds is always almost impossible. You learned it occupying Iraq and Afganistan. In Vietnam. We learned on the receiving end. We were occupied for 134 years. With laws forbidding us to speak our language, practice our religion, have our culture. For generations. The language, the customs, the culture, the religion, they all survived. Shortly after were faced with two world wars and USSR occupation that took more deecades. And we are still here. They could never win our souls and minds. It would be exactly the same for America.

Potent symbolism of the lights on the statue going out in sequence. First the lights in her pedestal, symbolising how the foundation of the nation she represents is crumbled and torn apart; then the lights in her crown/head, signifying the death of independent thought and freedom of belief; and finally, the torch, though broken and sinking, still glows feebly as it disappears beneath the water to represent the dying of hope and spirit, yet still the vital spark of resistance may remain.

I was hooked on the show, start to finish, though I admit to being a bit disappointed that they cheapskated on the ending with the traditional "bad guys die, good guys win." Personally, I'd have much preferred the much more ambiguous ending the show would have had if it ended after Smith's coup and assassination of Himmler. Just imagine- Himmler is dead, Smith rules supreme in North America...what's in store for the world now?

@@KomradeSealsmy problem with the series is that it ended to soon. The reason being that amazon did not approve for any more seasons after the fourth season. The writers basically had to cram 2-3 seasons into one season. You can tell by the way they were passing them selves with each season. I loved it every step except for the last one. The world building was so incredibly done. We were supposed to see other areas of the world, like Africa and China, after the fourth. Unfortunately, they had to rush everything so dramatically that it killed off the series for me. I can’t even rewatch it now.

A juxtaposition between The Couscous of Rodes and The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of liberty is the subject of the poem and the US is an adoptive mother to exiles. “Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” America is ideally a classless society taking people from the bottom tanks of whatever society they came from and allowed to become the best version of themselves they can be. An immigrant nation. The golden door is our ports of entry. The New Colossus is a poem about what America can be and what our collective dream is. We may have fallen short of that dream but we can still endeavor towards that dream of a nation made great by welcoming all.
