After a huge explosion in New York City, the head of the Statue of Liberty comes rolling down the street.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Producer J.J. Abrams teams with writer Drew Goddard and director Matt Reeves for this frenetic tale of a powerful destructive force that descends upon New York City, and the four desperate people who put their lives on the line to embark on a perilous rescue mission. Rob Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David) is a young American professional who has recently been offered a coveted new job in Japan. Eager to send his older sibling off in style, Rob's younger brother, Jason (Mike Vogel), and his girlfriend, Lily (Jessica Lucas), organize a surprise going-away party to take place the night before Rob boards his Eastern-bound flight. As the party gets underway, Rob's longtime friend and current love interest, Beth (Odette Yustman), shows up with another man as the dejected guest of honor's best-pal Hud (T.J. Miller) encourages partygoer Marlena (Lizzy Caplan) to wish him an on-camera farewell despite the fact that they barely know one another. If you can overlook some of the characters decisions and some of the dialogue, this is an exceptionally well made found-footage horror movie. Showing just the right amount of monster-horror thrills that leaves you on the edge of your seat for the whole movie. Watched this as a kid with my dad and it still haunts me to this very day

zombies, monsters, and godzilla, mixed with Blair Witch, but with CGI. maybe too much, maybe too shallow characters, maybe ahead of it's time. I like VHS 1 and VHS 2 better, first one for scares the second one for gore, but defiantly influenced by this STYLE. I think a full length movie was just stretching it is why there's so many different genres packed in.

I’m commenting to say how happy I am to know that people still enjoy this film. I remember back when the DVD came out and people would upload the secrets they found through the bonus features. Not to mention the secret monster pictures that could be found if you paused the movie at the right moments. This was one of those films that scared me at first, but then I grew to love it the more I watched and learned about its story. Thank you, Cloverfield, for being a very special movie in my life!

I totally agree. Probably the most absorbing sci-fi film I've ever seen. Something amazing about the atmosphere, so dark and mysterious - it makes for a tense and extremely exciting movie. The shaky cam is what makes it immersive too - really adds to the gritty feeling and believe-ability.
