I mean Guts did indeed never have a real family (except a abusive father), but i`m pretty sure the Band of the Hawk filled that role for him. Plus all the things that happened to him since he literally fell out of his hanging dead mother`s womb kinda led up to the most complex amalgamation of loss and hatred he suffered in the ecliplse. You described the other characters on the list with one encompassing emotion (rage, wrath, etc), i don`t think that`s quite possible with that complex soup Guts is stewing in his chest but if i`d had to name one, it`s probably hatred more then anything, as dark as it could possibly get to the point it might not even be recoqnizable as that anymore.

I once wrote a Fan made sequel for Asura's Wrath. Complete with a few OC's and a new enemy, Asura's of course plays the major role in it. But it's only an idea, probably won't be anything more.

I actually disagree with the stories being parallel. There is a message playing out how each character handles rage. Doomslayer and Asura act in opposition with an order that is damaging the world with the other gods and Haydens hell portal whereas Kratos actually damages the world because of a personal vendetta against the gods. Guts is in a grey area where he could pursue Griffith for his own revenge but knows he would destroy everything still good in his life to do so unlike Kratos.

Kratos version of rage is the most raw and human form of rage. Anger can literally blind a man to a point where he no longer sees the impact of his actions. Kratos is the embodiment of fight in fight or flight.

i will always love asura's wrath, it was a crazy button masher that i will always go back to whenever im in a mood to play something fun. pissed i never got a chance to play the real ending, didnt realize it was a dlc, but the point is that the scene you showed for him is the ultimate "come at me!" moment ive seen. i loved it and always laugh whenever i see it.

In a way the angry character represents the voice of the people feeling strife for the superior power they cant match. Guts lashes out at the untouchable apostles and god hand. Kratos defying the greek gods. Doom guy going against he'll itself. Goku going super saiyan against emperor of the universe lord freeza. Naruto and ohma tokihta unlocking their ferocity against a superior opponent where one fatal mistake could end everything.

I always saw the angry character as a sort of wish fulfillment, the sheer sense of catharsis from seeing a weaker character overcoming insurmountable odds from rage alone speaks to us as we all are quite powerless in a sense, unable to really impose our will on the world, hence seeing a character get so pissed off that he forces his will on the world is quite awe inspiring.

I do love me some angry characters. Scorpion is awesome, he came from one of the first fighting game franchise (even though I prefer Sub-Zero) and has a special place in my heart. While I haven't played God of war since I was 8 back when the first God of War, I certainly felt his presence throughout my gaming career and curious about his latest game. Asura's Wrath is in my top 3 games ever, I love this game even with it's flaws and want him to come back in some form or fashion, the world needs to see him battle the Hulk, and then team up afterwards. Meanwhile, Guts is one of my favorite protagonists. The man has endured so much and still keeps on trucking in which I can only describe as outright legendary durability from the amount of shit he's survived. I can hope for him is the he gets some kind of happy ending, or a conclusion that he's satisfied with. Two more people I would like to bring up that you already did are the Doomslayer and the Hulk. Doomguy/slayer is a simple man, rip and tear demons on sight, and that's all you really need sometimes, but he's got a soft side to him that isn't brought up so often. He killed his commanding officer because the officer told him to open Fire on a innocent crowd of people, went balls deep into Hell itself to avenge his rabbit Daisy in one game, and in the 2016 game he does have sympathy when he saw the dead man at the beginning of the game and Samuel saying that opening Hell was for the benefit of mankind when Doomguy/slayer see's things differently. The Hulk is my favorite superhero since day 1, I just like the raw power he can do, but he still uses it to help people, and his life fucking sucks ounce you stop and think about it. Violently abused by his father, his mother died in front of him, developed MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder) and is chased by the military. He even lived had a similar life to Asura for a little bit, he was betrayed by their friends, have their loved ones die in their arms, and came back to kick their "friends" asses. Heck Hulk is now dealing with "The One Below All" much like how Asura took one the God of creation of his universe. I think what I'm trying to say is, Can we put Asura in Marvel vs Capcom already please?

Capcom needs to remaster Asura's Wrath as an anime series. The quick time events do ruin a lot of the tension of every scene they're in. All the need to do is render the cutscenes to get upscale them and take away the screeb tearing. And create some extra scenes to fill up the gameplay and storyboard sections. I'd watch it again. Heck, I'd buy the blu ray
