Some of the best plants were from root bound plants that my mom removed from a planter and threw away under a nearby orange tree. I too definitely dislike spider mites, yet i never get around to spraying for the insects when there's an infestation. By the way that fig root ball would likely survive if you threw it away in a shady location onto soil.

If someone at the compost processing plant took it out of the pile it may have been planted somewhere. All of my most successful plants had solid root balls. It's a sign of vigor.

@@TheMelvinWei you're right, that fig might be thriving in someone's yard right now. Figs are really hardy plants.
