From a North Carolinian who travels on 95 to Florida to visit family very frequently, I have a word of advice. Don’t stay in Fayetteville. You are right about it being sketchy! Go about 30 miles further north on 95 to Dunn. There are hotels and restaurants there and it is much safer feeling. Glad you had a Merry Christmas.

I am assuming that was the Bucees just by St Augustine? We were there the weekend before Christmas and it took us about 45 minutes to get out of the parking lot. Sad thing is we only live 20 mins from there. Nice to see it so quiet! Hope you guys had a great holiday.

Even with a change of plans, it appears that you had a wonderful Christmas. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip. I live just north of Charlottesville & we have had 10 inches of snow this past week and are expecting more this evening, as well as some very cold temperatures. My grandkids have been off from school for the 2 week winter break & another week (so far) of snow days. They have had great fun sledding. I am ready for Spring!

It’s very unfortunate that Chloe wasn’t well enough to travel to Florida but sometimes it’s nice to do something unexpected and no good parent would leave their child on Christmas Day, especially when they haven’t been well. The hotel reminded me a lot of the Clarion inn in Florida which brings back many fond memories. Despite the gang outside and what could possibly have been, you managed to tell it in a way that was rather funny to listen to. I like how Maxine shrugged it off, my wild imagination had her wielding a pump action shotgun and telling them to kindly go away.

Last year (Xmas 23) my dad was due to go into cancer surgery 29/12 so we planned a big meal, give him a good time. My wife tested positive for Covid Xmas morning, so everything had to be cancelled, we couldn’t risk him getting Covid. S***t happens unfortunately, glad you kept your optimism going. What are you using for the mapping graphics, I like it? I love driving around the U.S., much more relaxing generally than the U.K. The ‘Deluxe Inn’ car park looked like it was built on the San Andreas Fault and looked very ropey outside but inside it wasn’t bad at all. Shame about the people knocking around outside.

Our 2019 Outlander Phev would only ever charge to 80% from the petrol engine, think this must be by design. We could get it to charge above 80% if you changed the setting to battery hold. Looks like you are enjoying the car though!

When you have your car set to "charge" whilst driving a PHEV that absolutely kills your fuel consumption right? The car will burn through a lot more petrol to charge the battery so can be a bit of a false economy
