HEY! i worked on Chaos in 1991. The funny thing is the props you see in this video were not original to the ride. It had video elements of something totally different. A guy(Whos name I wont mention) was the ride operator and on his b-day he gave riders hats,party favors,etc. They threw the party favors at the rides camera equipment damaging it. So for the rest of the year. You just rode the ride in darkness. The next year(92 or 93) they added the props shown on this video and I remember that dragon and yes it was scary because you would see it as you came out from a banked turned. So ithe props were added later because it was too costly to fix the projector and we got the props because a ride operator handed out party favors. RIP Opryland. Iworked there from 1988 to 1993 and 1995.

The Hulk coaster is one of my all-time favorites. The actual scenery isn't that heavily themed or anything after the launch, but it's one of the best examples of an actual themed coaster, like the track and everything. It really does make you feel like you're becoming a gamma-radiated beast during the ride. That sudden adrenaline rush is all the the theming you really need. I assume it's pretty close to what Bruce Banner'd feel, with less rage obviously. Even at the end, when it slows down and stops before heading back in, it feels like my radioactive wrath is finally calming down and I'm no longer in *big green mode.* Also I love the hulk scream when carts shoot out, that's great.

The first jump scare I remember having on a coaster was on Walt Disney World's Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. My friend had forewarned me of the small drop that happens, but I still screamed a little when it hit, though. Same thing happened at Universal Studios on Harry Popper: Escape from Gringotts, and Hagrid's Adventure nearly took me out entirely between the moment of weightlessness/suspension and then shortly after the drop. I'm not a big rollercoaster person, so all three of those were a bit much for me. WDW:RotR is the only one I've done more than once, and I vowed never to do Hagrid's again 😂
@futurehistoryarchaeologist4480 Жыл бұрын
Rise of the Resistance isn't a roller coaster, it's a trackless dark ride. Really good ride though. Disney really went all out on that one.
@Izzy-cp8yt Жыл бұрын
@Future History Archaeologists close enough, it rides like a coaster for someone (me) who is iffy with coasters/similar rides
@futurehistoryarchaeologist4480 Жыл бұрын
@Izzy I'm not saying it isn't an intense ride or anything, but I just think the terminology is important, at least in the context of a video about roller-coasters.
@Izzy-cp8yt Жыл бұрын
@@futurehistoryarchaeologist4480 it honestly feels really unnecessary to me. My comment is three months old, and is entirely about answering the personal experience question that was posed by the video. And really, the type of tract the ride uses is pretty unimportant to the general public.

When I was like 14 I didn’t pay attention to the fact that Volcano the blast coaster was called the BLAST coaster so I did not expect that launch. Riding verbolten for the first time also scared the hell out of me with that drop track!

Seeing the Journey to Atlantis ride on this list made me bring back memories of when I first went on it during my fifth grade class field trip to Sea World Orlando, it was really scary for me and the part where the evil mermaid appeared scared the life out of me and I was about to cry. Surprisingly after that, I didn’t suffer any nightmares from it, I must consider myself lucky to have gone on the ride. It may have been scary, but at the end of the day, it was all worth it.

Phantom’s Revenge at Kennywood is amazing at night, especially the second drop into the ravine-it’s quieter because there aren’t that many people left in the park and there are no lights at all on the curve, so it’s just you speeding along in the dark, cool night air. Totally recommend

I love jumpscares on roller coasters they just add a whole other dimension to it.

I took my young cousin on Atlantis a few years ago when she was only 8. I had her cover her eyes before we got to the jump scares because I didn't want her to freak out and start crying. Lucky for me it worked but she ended up bawling her eyes out after the splash lol

Chaos was SO MUCH FUN! I went on that ride like 4-5 times as there was no wait when I was there.

It's not a roller coaster per se, but I was totally unaware of the sudden speed up section in DisneySea's Journey to the Center of the Earth. It's pretty darn cool... You get blasted by flames (you can feel the heat!)and you turn a corner and this MASSSSIVE lava monster animatronic is standing there menacingly and roars at you and your vehicle just takes off like a bullet in a upward spiral and you come out the side of the volcano, OUTSIDE and drop down into a track that goes around the entirety of Mysterious Island! It was a blast!

I've actually done 6 of these coasters, so I'll rank them as far as scare goes: 1. Dark Knight's van 2. Karnan's backwards drop 3. Vertical drop tracks (Verbolten & Hagrids) 4. Flucht Von Novgorod's launch 5. Incredible Hulk's launch 6. Journey to Atlantis's mermaid statue Unfortunately Flucht Von Novgorod's scarecrow wasn't working during my visit

A very good and very underrated night ride is Adventure Express. It feels like 3 times faster and there is actually a lot of cool effects that only show at night

Not sure if I'd call it a jump scare persay - but I remember back in the day at my home park in Busch Gardens Williamsburg - when you enter the cave section of the Loch Ness Monster roller coaster, you begin to see a shimmer of a scaley body along the wall as you zip through the cave. And then there's a dragon's head at the end of the cave as you pass. It was simply scrims and whatnot and not animatronics or sculptures - but I do think it spooked riders on their first time, especially with the added sound effects. Haven't been in a while so no idea if the effect is still in use but I enjoyed it a lot.

I rode Chaos at Opryland easily 100+ times as a kid. The dragon at the end was kind of obscured and comes out of nowhere - you're pretty close to it. Literally clicked on that vid because I was like "holy cow - is that CHAOS?!"

4:38 I was on a Gotham city ride in a park in Mexico City... And what I remeber was the truck almost flipping upside down on you and stops right before the end. I think they put different effects at the different rides there are around the world but definitely its one of the most scary rides ive been at considering how good they hyped everything out.
@rayizard56872 жыл бұрын
As far as classic track layouts that scare riders, I think Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze should have been mentioned. Like most old woodies, JR has a tunnel leading back into its station. When you enter the tunnel, you can see the station at the end but can't see that in the darkness between you and the station is another small drop - great surprise element on one of the oldest coasters in North America!

TBH when I think coaster jumpscares, I think that heckin' anglerfish on SeaWorld's Kraken. 😰

Good night rides (I'm biased because I'm from Orlando): - Hagrid's Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure (completely different experience at night than during the day) - VelociCoaster (It's fast, minimally lit, and has black track) - Astro Orbiter (Not a coaster but the views you get are beautiful at night) - Cobra's Curse (The lighting effects from the snake sat night just add to the creepiness of the ride)

After the outdoor section on Fluch Von Novgorod, it doesn't hit the brake run. There's actually a 131ft tall chain lift hill that has strobe lighting effects, then after a few turns the train will hit the brake run

i personally think Allura was a great villain on Journey To Atlantis. i was terrified of her when i was little but to this day i still wish someone will make a Journey to Atlantis Movie. just so i can see Allura in action once again. although she may be even more terrifying just sitting there looking down at riders. newcomers to the ride wont know why she's there and will just be creeped out
