Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Orlando had a pretty good jump scare, the part where the roof catches fire, the mummy pops out, and you go into a steep drop before the ride ends. Also to mention, the part where the scarabs pop out of the wall and the car goes into a reverse launch, absolutely stunning.

I was waiting for that ride to show up. It has like 4 good jump scare moments. When the mummy’s pop up in the treasure room, when you suddenly stop and the beetles come out, when you suddenly are thrown backwards, and when you are in the fake ending. Not sure how it didn’t make the list

Does anyone else feel the same way about the Disney World jump scare on Test Track at Epcot? Before the re-theme, there would be a point on the winding track segment where an 18-wheeler would pop out and honk at you before the car swerved out of the way. I think the effect is far inferior now with the neon laser techno theming. But it was by far one of my favorite moments of the ride at the time.

HEY! i worked on Chaos in 1991. The funny thing is the props you see in this video were not original to the ride. It had video elements of something totally different. A guy(Whos name I wont mention) was the ride operator and on his b-day he gave riders hats, party favors, etc. They threw the party favors at the rides camera equipment damaging it. So for the rest of the year. You just rode the ride in darkness. The next year(92 or 93) they added the props shown on this video and I remember that dragon and yes it was scary because you would see it as you came out from a banked turned. So ithe props were added later because it was too costly to fix the projector and we got the props because a ride operator handed out party favors. RIP Opryland. Iworked there from 1988 to 1993 and 1995.

The Hulk coaster is one of my all-time favorites. The actual scenery isn't that heavily themed or anything after the launch, but it's one of the best examples of an actual themed coaster, like the track and everything. It really does make you feel like you're becoming a gamma-radiated beast during the ride. That sudden adrenaline rush is all the the theming you really need. I assume it's pretty close to what Bruce Banner'd feel, with less rage obviously. Even at the end, when it slows down and stops before heading back in, it feels like my radioactive wrath is finally calming down and I'm no longer in *big green mode.* Also I love the hulk scream when carts shoot out, that's great.

I've done the Great Adventure and Great America versions, and while the van is on the right side for the NJ version, it's actually on the left side for the IL version. Actually caught me off guard on the latter. -Journey to Atlantis has brought back some of its effects to an extent, I believe earlier this year. I know this isn’t a coaster but riding a star flyer, ferris wheel, or any large ride at a carnival is one of the best night rides you’ll ever get. Being able to overlook all the carnival rides with their light packages lit up while overhead is a stunning experience to say the least.

Best Night Time Ride was one I just did a few days ago: Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure! We got in the queue at 4:40 and rode it nearly 3 hours later at 7:20pm. The sun had just set and as made the first bend I realized it was dark now. I’ve been on it twice before with sunlight and this was the first time at night. I think this is how it was meant to be ridden! The movies are set in dark lighting and seeing all of the headlights on as we soared through darkness made this perfect!!

I took my young cousin on Atlantis a few years ago when she was only 8. I had her cover her eyes before we got to the jump scares because I didn't want her to freak out and start crying. Lucky for me it worked but she ended up bawling her eyes out after the splash lol

It's not a roller coaster per se, but I was totally unaware of the sudden speed up section in DisneySea's Journey to the Center of the Earth. It's pretty darn cool... You get blasted by flames (you can feel the heat!)and you turn a corner and this MASSSSIVE lava monster animatronic is standing there menacingly and roars at you and your vehicle just takes off like a bullet in a upward spiral and you come out the side of the volcano, OUTSIDE and drop down into a track that goes around the entirety of Mysterious Island! It was a blast!

Seeing the Journey to Atlantis ride on this list made me bring back memories of when I first went on it during my fifth grade class field trip to Sea World Orlando, it was really scary for me and the part where the evil mermaid appeared scared the life out of me and I was about to cry. Surprisingly after that, I didn’t suffer any nightmares from it, I must consider myself lucky to have gone on the ride. It may have been scary, but at the end of the day, it was all worth it.

Phantom’s Revenge at Kennywood is amazing at night, especially the second drop into the ravine-it’s quieter because there aren’t that many people left in the park and there are no lights at all on the curve, so it’s just you speeding along in the dark, cool night air. Totally recommend

The first jump scare I remember having on a coaster was on Walt Disney World's Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. My friend had forewarned me of the small drop that happens, but I still screamed a little when it hit, though. Same thing happened at Universal Studios on Harry Popper: Escape from Gringotts, and Hagrid's Adventure nearly took me out entirely between the moment of weightlessness/suspension and then shortly after the drop. I'm not a big rollercoaster person, so all three of those were a bit much for me. WDW:RotR is the only one I've done more than once, and I vowed never to do Hagrid's again 😂

@@futurehistoryarchaeologist4480 it honestly feels really unnecessary to me. My comment is three months old, and is entirely about answering the personal experience question that was posed by the video. And really, the type of tract the ride uses is pretty unimportant to the general public.

As far as classic track layouts that scare riders, I think Jack Rabbit at Seabreeze should have been mentioned. Like most old woodies, JR has a tunnel leading back into its station. When you enter the tunnel, you can see the station at the end but can't see that in the darkness between you and the station is another small drop - great surprise element on one of the oldest coasters in North America!

Dead serious. So happy you included Journey to Atlantis on here. Although it may not look like much, being on that ride is fucking nightmare fuel if you are 14 years old, and I don't scare easily. That jumpscare plus the heart- pounding drop right after is crazy. There's also another really unexpected twisting drop towards the end that makes you want to throw up for about two minutes. The whole time the ride makes you think about emergency exits bc they clearly show them too you too.
