As it turns out, I pronounced "Terminus" horribly wrong. Apologies to Walking Dead fans. But let's just say I called it "Ter Minus" on purpose as a pun to emphasize its "F Minus" scenery lol. I also accidently used footage from the Hollywood version of Earthquake while referring to the Orlando one, mainly since I couldn't get usable footage of the Orlando one on short notice.

I have mixed feelings about terminus after just hearing about it in this video. it's clear to see what's going on as theres not really anything going on. I quite like the thought of no decorations and just being able to experience a ride for the bare structure of engineering that it is and to relax as theres nothing trying to scare you or flood your brain with images and scenes to make it seem "exciting", its just simple and plain. on the other hand I wonder about how it's designed and about the safety of it. in case its not clear I have only ridden a few "rollercoasters"/rides. most of which when I was younger, of which I can only remember a little bit of one at legoland, and some at Disney (the best being the avatar ones. which I checked before going on to find out that they didnt actually travel like a rollercoaster would.) to make it even clearer. rollercoasters scare me and I'm to afraid to even get on some of the kids ones incase something goes horribly wrong.

My family recently went to Tennessee, and I passed by Earthquake. Remembering the ride solely from this video, I really wanted to ride it and had my heart set on it for the whole week. I ended up paying $24 for two children's admissions, but personally, I think it was worth it. Sure, the scenery is really random, but I think that it's charming in its own little way. It's oddly terrifying because everything is so dang loud, and while the chairs are creaking back and forth, literally everyone is screaming at the top of their lungs. All in all, it's a great ride, and I'd give it 4 stars. 👍
@cheezecake88073 жыл бұрын
As someone who's ridden the Jurassic Jungle Boat Ride in Tennessee this year (2021), the charm of the ride was incredible. There were some animatronics that weren't working, such as the one in the water and the unhinged jaw dino at the end, and some animatronics had even been moved around. The ride layout is pretty short, but there's so much to experience in such a short layout. The boat will stop and go and you'll be surrounded by dinosaurs. Some will pop out, some will run up to you. All in all, I love this ride and the 20$ fee to ride (17.99) is totally worth it. It's a piece of living history.

Garfield's Nightmare was a truly weird ride. Around the time it opened, Garfield became a temporary "mascot" for Kennywood alongside Kenny the Kangaroo. Garfield characters were depicted on park merchandise, Garfield-themed murals appeared in the park, and if I remember correctly, the park even had an actor walking around in a Garfield costume. All of that stuff fell by the wayside within a couple of years, but the Garfield ride remained, completely incongruent with everything else in the park.

That part about the worst dark rides having their fans struck home with me after you put Garfield's Nightmare on there. Having grown up in PA in the 90s, I loved the Old Mill. It was definitely the superior ride, without a doubt, and was historical just like the ride it sat next to near the entry way. However, I couldn't control them removing it for Garfield's Nightmare so I just enjoyed that for what it was. It always helped that I watched the cartoon a lot growing up and really love the character and cats, but I never felt it was totally awful. So to see it make it in the top 10 kind of opened my eyes to how much else is wrong with it. Some of which isn't the ride's fault but the ride that it replaced and the history that was destroyed for a generic mascot dark ride. For all the dark rides, Garfield's Nightmare made it on your worst list and I totally understand that sentiment while also always saying that I enjoyed and liked Garfield's Nightmare. In many ways, I'm sad it's gone and that the Old Mill returned. I haven't been back to Kennywood since they replaced Garfield but I expect to love the new Old Mill even if I'm sad Garfield is gone. I will always have love for Garfield's Nightmare, in spite of me now seeing more clearly why it was so hated.

@SmallSpoonBrigade2 жыл бұрын
@@chrisp6710 The skull Island portion of the tour is really only acceptable if you didn't get to experience the previous version with the massive animatronic Kong. The fast and the furious portion was a lot more fun, probably in part because the things that it replaced weren't that interesting. The collapsing bridge and the parting sea effects weren't that impressive by the time I saw them 30 years ago and probably were pretty cringe by the time they were removed from the tour.. I do think that as a stand alone attraction, that the Fast and the Furious ride wouldn't really be good enough as is without significant changes.

I was a tour guide on the Nile River tour many many years ago. You actually have it backwards. The intent was originally just to move people around the hotel and so there were loading docks built but never used in each of the ride sections. Then when the hotel opened they thought "why not turn it into another attraction and they added the tour guides and charged per person for a complete tour of the outskirts of the hotel. So all of the decorative stuff that really was never intended to be more than decorations not became stuff that the tour guide was to go on about, as well as discuss the Legends in Concert show that you go by and the coffee shop (which you see in the footage). The last section of the ride was the most exciting and also confusing if you went with the official script (I was the only one who stayed with that part that I know of). In the original version of the hotel there was a big obelisk that shot up through the center of the hotel which was seen on the attractions (ride) level that was like their midway and family friendly area. They tried to be like Disney and have a story behind the hotel that story is that there was supposedly an archeological dig on the land where the hotel sits and they uncovered that giant obelisk. On the obelisk were the instructions telling them to build the Luxor hotel. So they built the hotel around that giant obelisk that somehow managed to be buried beneath the dirt yet reached about the 5th story in the hotel. The full story would only be kinda figured out if you went on all three of the upstairs attractions (i only did two because on training day one was broken, which was quite often). I would tell the final portion of the spiel with complete seriousness and get enjoyment when a few people actually showed looks of confusion and like i lost my mind. Normally by that point most people tuned the boring spiel out. And jokes of "its all fun and games until Horus loses an eye" having the boat yell "throw me a steak" to the restaurant, had was not working through that section since there really was not much else until the waterfall. Which that was the big climax was that the boat headed straight to a waterfall which "magically" turned off as the boat is just about to get wet. (god that ride was bad) Another of the attractions had live actors originally, but they had already been removed by the time I worked there in 95. I a month before working there They had made plans to shut it down and turn it into a real dark ride, although that never happened and the hotels realized that wierd trend of early 90s Vegas where everything was a theme park came to an end by the late 90s. I actually only lasted working there about two months. I was performing in the parades at Disneyland and I then moved to Vegas for a gig that ended up falling apart. So I took that position and it was boring as hell. I started in July - Sept. I left when the school year started and my nasty boss scheduled me to work despite the schedule change I submitted. So I quit. Although I did make a friend who I still am close with, so it wasn't all bad. Its amazing to see that footage though.

Thanks for the insight! It's interesting how obscure the ride's history is. I always love hearing from people who experienced theme park history firsthand.

I remember going to Vegas shortly after it opened to see all the new “incredibly advanced technology” that was put into their various attractions. I enjoyed myself. But was also confused as to what the overall story was of the 3 rides and/or shows were. The one show where they used pepper’s ghost technology to make it appear as if the guests were really in the room was technically interesting from a production point of view. But it was as about as exciting as sitting through a boring lecture. The log ride (or whatever) was mildly entertaining. The fake King Tut’s tomb exhibit was the best.

As a lifelong Pittsburgh area resident who grew up going to Kennywood every summer, I’m glad I got many years experiencing classics like the Old Mill and Noah’s Ark, before major changes happened. I was so happy they brought back Old Mill. Now if only they also reconstruct the Turnpike ride I loved as a kid, always was my first one every time…and would be cool if they restored the Kennywood train ride to its former state but that’s just my feelings. Hoping they never change the Merry Go Round. I know they have to add and subtract some things to stay relevant but so much of what makes Kennywood so special is it’s traditions and the classic hometown amusement park feeling.
@krakeddreams08 Жыл бұрын
They ruined the fun train ride! it was one of my favorite rides with the storybook characters and Pittsburgh charm. Now its just a traveling timeline of Kennywood. The renovated Noah's Ark is a nice touch, but I'll always miss the "mines beneath the ark" since they terrified me as a kid. And the collapsing walls at the end of the ride!

There used to be a ghost train in Southport, UK, which was basically just a shed with lights which came on as the car came past a skeleton or a witch. But this meant that you could see the other cars lighting up ahead of you, so any jump factor was completely cancelled out. It was so bad it was good, much like the one you showed from south Shields. It was a pretty unique ride to be on a free flowing boat and I really liked the mill. Then it happened the great Kennywood invasion by Garfield starting in 2000. At first it seemed pretty harmless, after all Garfield was only in kiddieland. I have never been more pissed off about anything amusement park related than what they announced that Garfield was going to take over the old mill.
