I just rode this last night for the first time. This video does 0 justice for how awesome Phantom's Revenge is. You come out of our seat a few times and it's amazing. If you ever find yourself coming to Kennywood, make this the FIRST ride you go on...or the last because at night you don't see what's coming at all.

Some of these early, first giant metal coasters were done so well that they'll never become outdated. The second drop, going down into the ravine, is one of the great drops in coaster history. You see the ground rush by you and you just keep going. It's a brilliant effect and a ride that you have to go on to understand the thrill. One of the prides of Pittsburgh for sure, along with three great wooden coasters.

Throughout my lifetime of living in the 'Burgh, I can easily tell you that Kennywood is historic. Despite the new attractions and generation, you can immediately sense the class within the park. The infrastructure, the rides, etc. The fact that this park was the very first that you could possibly experience the "roller coaster", is fucking indescribable. Despite those legendary attractions being structured with wood, both "The Jack Rabbit" and "The Racers" function properly to this day. Neither possesses the intensity of this, but they're always a pleasure to ride. I don't know, this park is definitely a beauty to me, and something that I will forever cherish. Including their fire Potato Patch Fries. 😌💓

I grew up going to Kennywood in the 90s, and lord did my father like tricking me onto the rollercoasters, but even in spite of my fear, I loved the Jackrabbit and Racers to death. Sadly I wasn't tall enough for Steel Phantom when it was still around.

Great ride. When it first opened as the steel phantom, it was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. I love Kennywood. It also has 3 famous and very unique wooden coasters.

I love how there are like two people having a conversation on the way up the lift hill, and then there talking and giggling turns into screaming, cursing, and maniacal laughter from the first drop till the end of the ride. This is one of my favorite things about roller coasters.

Fury325 Doug I'm not sure if the section after the first drop was re tracked though, as there is a vid on KZbin as it still operating as Steel Phantom and one of the track pieces were painted. Even if it was re tracked, the part after the first drop is identical to how it was when it was SP.

The first part didn't receive new Morgan tracks until roughly five years back. It ran for years with both Arrow track and Morgan track. Since the transition is pretty much the same as when it was Steel Phantom, I guess you could say that it is an Arrow transition. Surprisingly, it does take that turn pretty well, though.

I've ridden this coaster 'so' many times and it never gets boring, It's an awesome coaster to ride. If your in Pittsburgh, and like Coasters. it's worth your while to go to Kennywood Park. I love the fact this actually goes under another roller coaster called the ThunderBolt.

They are putting new trains on the Phantom's Revenge this year, but instead of the combination of green and purple, one will be solid green and the other will be solid purple. I think it's to make it look more retro, and they're putting areas where mechanics can open part of the cars to make maintenance easier. Other than that they'll look the same though.

This is my favorite roller coaster at kennywood! I have experienced it when it was steel phantom and had loops when I was under the age of 10 and I absolutely hated it. sn: riding the phantom in the rain is a very painful experience.

What's wrong with them? I personally think that Thunderbolt is one of the best woodies that I've ever had the pleasure to ride. Both Racer and Thunderbolt are incredibly well maintained and smooth for their age.

Interesting, in the older POV of this you posted you can clearly see that the Arrow track is still there on the first drop then turns into Morgan track on the second drop, while now it seems it's all been replaced by Morgan track. When did that happen?

Volcano is a top 5 coaster of all time with Phantom's Revenge. It's tragic that it will likely never reopen. Add in Millennium Force at CP and Kingda Ka at 6F-NJ, and there is 4 of the top 5. Maybe El Toro or Nitro at 6F-NJ gets in the top 5 as well.

The ride originally opened in 1991 as " Steel Phantom" and included 4 inversions. In 2001, the ride was remodeled into " Phantom's Revenge", which included new trains and removed the inversions.

You know what I really love about this video other than the fact that this legendary roller coaster is beautiful to watch, the fact that this park operates its rides in the rain. Any other park will close their rides for the most part when it's raining like this. Any Six Flags park I've been to will close their rides when it rains (Thunder and lightning is a given that they have to close them) but anything more than a few rain drops and the rides closed. I would LOVE to ride coasters in the rain. It makes me think of parks in Europe that operate in the winter when there is snow on the ground. I know this might seem like a really dumb question but what are the grounds for closing any rides (roller coasters included) when it comes to weather? Does it come down to the particular preference of the park? Just wanted to ask.

This is by far my favorite ride (probably because the only amusement park I've ever been to is Kennywood, about 6 times. The two hills are almost identical to the Steel Phantom and are probably my favorite parts along with (some) of the bumps. This isn't even that scary of a ride once you've gotten past the first hill (the scariest and stressful part of the ride to most) and is, again, one of my favorite rides at Kennywood as well as the Skyrocket.

As the Phantom crreeeeeps to the top (probably the slowest lift hill in the world). Probably the fastest coaster I been on to date, that 2nd drop and the curve back up are intense. Also the bunnyhops near the end are fantastic. It is short for a 'big' coaster, but worth it. I rode it the year it opened and sadly, they had part of the Thunderbolt still dismantled, so I was not able to ride the Thunderbolt when I was there.

There used to be inversions when it first opened they were where all of those random bunny hops are. I think they took them out when Chance Morgan refurbished the ride.

to me a video definitely cuts it. I haven't ridden this but to me, this beats out the american b and m hypercoasters. That first drop? all the bumps and and steep changes in incline? the length of the ride? this ride is killer. tbh though, with intamin being the exception in which they always seem to deliver, faster and taller is definitely not better.
