UPDATE: Universal confirms Rip Ride Rockit will be closing early September 2025 to make way for a new experience. They say more details to be revealed later.

I really don't know why they aren't planning on replacing villain con, I'm sure they spent plenty on it. But it really sucks. My daughter and I didn't even finish the "ride" the only time we went on it. It was nothing but chaos and noise. We walked out after like the 3rd screen of incomprehensible nonsense. Not to mention I'm just about done with the "lets have our visitors compete against each other." sort of attractions that a lot of parks seem to add anymore. None of them are organized well enough to actually be fun.

It would be cool to get some Golden Era IP attractions like Ghostbusters or Back To The Future, but I could also see them bringing in some newer IP. If not, a Fast & Furious rollercoaster so they can repurpose the current one.
@AVTechTips2 күн бұрын
The existing fast and furious attraction is such a sh*t show. It's probably the most slapped together attraction in any major theme park. It started out as a really crappy demonstration of practical effects that the studio executives actually shut down once they saw it because it was "embarrassing" for a park of their caliber. then it was molested into a weird tour bus experience that takes place in LA...despite starting in florida. Where you go on this weird platform and watch a movie taking place all around you...that is an absolute clown show. Oh and it broke twice while we were waiting to go on it. it was a huge waste of time. it's pretty bad when an ET attraction from the 90's is more fun than something they just built a few years ago.

Would LOVE a Ghostbusters or Back to the Future coaster!
@AVTechTips2 күн бұрын
They used to have a back to the future attraction that was a cart on hydraulics watching a movie, in 2007 they replaced it with the Simpsons ride. Which is actually not bad I would say it's an improvement over back to the future: the ride. however I would love for them to do something along the lines of a roller coaster but have it have sections where shows happen. Kinda like how tower of terror works in disney but with a roller coaster...I wonder if anyone has ever done a roller coaster in the dark with projection screens. I feel like they could do a ride where you would end up getting in a delorean and the climb hill could be made to look like your flying up into the air faster than you are actually climbing the hill, actually mag launch seems like the choice for this maybe all the way up the hill too. That way you could have multiple trains all running at the same time. Because each section would have a breaking area and a new launcher to accommodate the show portions of the ride. I actually don't think anyone has done something at all like this now that I think about it. You could have sections where you visit the old west, 1955 and even 1985 and the future presented in the 2nd movie. But if they were cleaver about how they did things they could make a roller coaster seem much faster and crazier than it actually is.

Universal Studios is quite behind in quality if you compare it with IoA and Epic, replacing RRR with something better (imagine a velocicoaster level ride) and replacing simpsons plus adding IPs like pokemon could really make and impact
@MrMac113815 күн бұрын
IoA is not a great park either. It has a few great attractions, but that's it. Spidey remains great. Hulk is pretty mid past its first half. Kong is okay. River Adventure is in ROUGH shape. Seuss Landing is also in rough shape. Velocicoaster is a GREAT coaster but quite mediocre as a themed attraction. Hagrid's is great - and has no Express or manageable lines. Both IoA and Studios are bleeding attendance. I hear they are down 10% AGAIN this year and it is not because of Epic Universe. Meanwhile, Epic Universe ticketing has not matched projections and hotel bookings are not where they hoped they would be. Comcast is very disappointed and is looking to slash budgets to make up for it. Universal is likely going to have a rough few years.

I live in Orlando and know some ride mechanics that work at Universal specifically on Rip ride and they have been planning this for a long time. After Epic universe they are gonna pump money into Universal and IOA but mainly Universal. Also if anyone has seen El Toro Ryan's problematic coaster video on this ride it is an absolute maintenance nightmare and there are some very challenging spots on the ride to evac people from if it breaks down. It took them years and years and millions of dollars into revamping the trains and lift hill just to get it to function properly. I love the ride even tho it's panned in the community but if you have ridden lately it's a shell of its former self with 5 songs total to choose from on the Playlist played into the onboard audio and the queue is in need a re fresh with its very mid 2,000's guitar hero cartoon like theming. In the end it makes to much sense not to do. Gonna open up minion land and new york as well in cramped small park

I'm inclined to think Ghostbusters is likely, given not only the fire house facade is there, but the library too. That and there already is a F&F attraction (for all that people think it's going away soon too) so I feel like it's less likely they'll put in another. They've also been leaning hard on the nostalgia lately and are very well aware how much people love the Ghostbusters franchise.
@brianmola71118 күн бұрын

Would only be in favour of removing RRR if it means restoring that dead end of New York and making use of the Ghostbusters firehouse again. To be honest, I think it's time they canned that whole backstage area of unused soundstages behind RRR and develop it into a new park area full of attractions. There is A LOT of space back there which could be used to bring Studios up to date and in line with IoA and Epic.

@LChatmanFL18 күн бұрын
I have been suggesting for a little while now, that they create a Ghostbusters themed land to replace RRR and 1 or 2 of those soundstages. I am hoping they do a dark show/attraction similar to Poseidon's Fury. You would take 40 people on a walking (or conveyor) tour through the New York subway system to rescue one of the Ghostbusters who has been captured by one of the ghosts. You could even recreate the spinning water tunnel, but instead of water, a slime tunnel. But obviously not real slime maybe just smoke & lights.Think of all the effects and cool sets you could build around that concept.

The biggest mystery here is that typically if a park is going to build a major new attraction there would be a new landmark, thematic, entry building (see the new F&F coaster building in Hollywood for example). The fact that no new, clearly guest-facing, "thematic place-making" buildings are planned is a head-scratcher. So, it's hard not to suspect the attraction will use the Ghostbusters firehouse as its entrance, leading to a new queue building tucked behind it.

I always looked at Rip Ride Rocket being located where it was as Universal definitively giving up on Orlando as "a working movie studio." Kind of hard to take a backlot seriously with a roller coaster flying through a building. That and punching a hole in the Ghostbusters Firehouse. They still use the theme park itself as a backdrop like the tiresome Sharknado movies) but nothing like when they were using the New York Street location for filming the Stallone movie _Oscar_ in 1991 (1st movie filmed at USF BTW).

A two-launch Intamin coaster? That would be sufficient to tell the story of Back to the Future--one launch to go back/forward in time, and the second to return to present day. Re-theme Production Central to Courthouse Square, make the queue building Doc Brown's science lab, play that iconic score on loop during the ride (since it's played constantly throughout the park anyway), add a Lou's/Cafe 80's, and if there's any opportunity for dark room sections then use them to tell story of the films. I'm just sayin'... give the people what we want! Ride the movies!

There's no telling, but even with permits being filed I imagine we will get a few months heads up from Universal when they have a closing date. It could possibly still not be for a little while so there's a chance you'll be able to ride it again in June. We shall see, stay tuned and fingers crossed.

2:41 as much as I would love a ghostbusters coaster I think you need more then just 2 building you need multiple they could add more permits but ghostbusters is not just an outdoor franchise

Yes, a veritcal launch coaster would be a great replacement. I hope they keep or use the ride name as inspiration for threnew attraction, like a rocket during liftoff. The oppertunity is there.

Good that it is closing but hope we get something interesting in its place. I fear it may just be another Minions attraction or Fast and Furious. Bring back Ghostbusters or Back to the Future!

I’m really hoping that is in SoCal get to keep Hollywood drift to ourselves. We don’t have many attractions exclusive to our park, so a fancy new roller coaster would really help. Whatever it is I’m sure it will be great.

You have the studio tour ( including back to the future behind the scenes, jaws, psycho and War of the Worlds) , The Secret life of pets, kung fu panda excellent 4D show, water world, Jurassic World, and a 2 year US exclusivity on super Nintendo. But i agree, i hope it's not a clone of fast and furious.

Is still hope it's a F&F coaster as it could have the unique element of skidding. Or maybe a Minions crossover Fartgun and the Furious?
