I love every single bit about the Efteling. The scenery, the rides, the feeling it brings just walking through there... I might be in my 30's by now, but every time I step through those gates I feel like a little kid again, and not many parks can do that for me. Sadly I haven't been able to go for several years, so many of the newer rides are still unfamiliar to me. I believe that the last time I went there, the Flying Dutchman had just opened, and I couldn't ride it because it was already closed again, which made me sad. One day I'll get to ride it though, this I promise to myself. My favorite ride has to be Droomvlucht, simply because it's the first ride I ever went on inside this park as a little kid and it just blew me away. So it holds a special place in my heart.

You have to visit the park during Winter Efteling. It is even more beautiful, and you get to see Aquanura in the dark! Also, Symbolica is my favourite dark ride as well. Love that ride!

Glad you liked the Efteling. I always kinda feel some sort of pride that it's in my home country xD. A few things: The guy sucking up the trash is actually another fairytale, called Holle bolle Gijs. He's all about eating paper, though. He constantly says: "Paper here" (though it rhymes in Dutch). The old wooden rollercoaster before Joris had a corner that almost busted your kidney. It still was my first rollercoaster and I loved it anyways! There is a park you've probably never heard of called Duinrel. It's not a huge park, but it's a combination of a waterpark and a themepark. The waterslides in there are some of the fastest and craziest ones I've ever seen. I hope to see you try it sometime.
@drdewott91547 жыл бұрын
Yeah I actually camped at Duinrell back in 2012 before I became an enthusiast and I don't get why it gets as much backlash from enthusiasts as it does. Yeah it's a small park but it looks beautiful with a lot of natural landscape and the rides it has are quite good. I mean they have an Eurofighter there.

On your next visit to Efteling you should give 'de oude tuffer' a try. It just recently got updated!
@PendelSteven4 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, the good old 'Oude Tuffer', actually meaning the 'Old Chugger'. A little hard to find, but just take a good look on the map, it's in the south-east , next to De Halve Maen (Halve Maan - Half Moon) ship and the Polka Marina. Actually, do all three. It's good old family fun. Oh, and De Halve Maen is probably still the worlds biggest of those attractions.

You might want to visit late November/early December on a weekday. It would still not be busy at all, but it will be "Winter Efteling". The Fairytale Forrest is then completely transformed to a winter/Christmas decor. So magical! The rest of the park is also adorned with winter and Christmas ornaments. It is really beautiful then! :)

@53:00 some info... Aquanura used to be the canoepond and there was an indoor fountainshow near the Diorama - I forget where exactly. Probably Symbolica? The indoor fountainshow is gone, but we there's Aquanura now. As for the canoes... Yeah. I don't ever think I've seen them in action. N I might be wrong. I'm a 90s kid. But I think before Aquanura it was just a pond for years.

Ruud Bos is actually the house composer of the Efteling so almost every composition is made by him and played by an orchestra!
@guidohilgy25057 жыл бұрын
He only was the home composer until the year 2000. From 2006, Rene Merkelbach is it. In between some other composers ,like Maarten Hartveldt, did write some music for the park. Btw, I hate Merkelbach's music. It' sounds to simple and cheap. Especially the new parkmusic is awfull. I hope they find a new composer that's more on the same level as Ruud Bos or Maarten Hartveldt.

Maybe a nice little detail on the dragon at 6:24. There used to be the chinese nightingale. Then they made a new chinese nightingle like we know it today (13:37) and placed a dragon on the old wall. You cann still see the branch where the nightingale used to sit on. Just look up "nachtegaal efteling draak" on google and you cann see the old version. Where Raveleijn is build, there used to be one of the old entrances. So that's why it's so close to the parkinglot. But there is a lot more to know about the Efteling.
@gladtobeangry6 жыл бұрын
Really enjoy your vlogs on the Efteling, and great to see you becoming more and more enthusiastic about the park as you visit more often. To me, it's the best theme park I've visited, but Im not a huge theme park fanatic like you guys, so I've been to maybe 10 different theme parks in total. Efteling is just a classic for everyone who grew up in the Netherlands. I'm not a nationalist at all, but that park makes me proud to be a (flying) dutchman. I remember walking through the park as a kid, in the late eighties, and loving it, even though most of the rides that make it so great now weren't around back then. Hadn't been there in years, and then returned in 2010 and fell in love with it all over again. I think the whole uniqueness of it is what makes it so great. You'll never see a ride there with characters from some current trendy animation movie. You'll never see a big chain restaurant opening its doors in the park. It's entirely its own thing, and that's why I don't hesitate in rating this above my experience at Disneyland in Anaheim. Disney's amazing, and in fairness just a little bit more impressive in theming, but you do sometimes feel a bit like being inside an immersive commercial for their movies and tv shows. In Efteling, you feel immersed in a magical nostalgic fantasy world.

Guys, you really should come back next year and revlog this. In the meantime please do some reading up about Efteling. The park deserves it. Efteling is not really only a theme park, it's an actual museum. I understand you are younger and mainly come for, or at least understand, the modern rides, but most of the park's theming and rides are incredibly well preserved original classics dating back all the way to 1952. They rarely removed anything. Also Efteling still sticks to the original visual style, created by Anton Pieck, who was very important for why this is still one of the most beautiful and magical themeparks in the world. I'm not bashing this vlog, i think you are one of the best theme park vloggers around, that's why i think Efteling deserves a better vlog from you. I still thumbed this up ;)

Pieter Auper Stop, you weird Efteling fanatic! Normal people just visit the park to have fun, and that's what it's meant for. People like you ruined this park for me, and just the whole community of fans seems very weird and unhealthy! I just don't get that bizarre relation some people have with this park. Chris van der Kruis Random Xtremerides profile picture? lol :D
@Pieter_Auper7 жыл бұрын
Filipolis you are right. You just don't get that 'bizarre' relation some people have with the park. And that's alright, you are too young to understand. Also, if a comment like mine can ruin a park for you you might want to reconsider who the 'normal' people are ;)
@viper51587 жыл бұрын
Filipolis Shawn has the same "unhealthy" connection with the several Disney parks. Why can't Shawn dig deeper in the parks history and stuff. He for instance said that after python the park hugely improved theming wise etc. While python just was a merely side step to accommodate the younger thrill seeking folks coming to the park in that time. Efteling already was decades underway in building a park with attractions that where heavily themed. So he was wrong about that.

Did you know that the Efteling as park is almost 300 ha (3,000,000 m2), and from that area is 72 ha (720,000 m2) Efteling Themepark. In 2020 will the Efteling extra grow with 8 ha (80,000 m2), and the new part become to the Efteling Themepark. And a new tip where to eat in The Efteling... In Raveleijn is a restaurant, you can eat there very well and feels like the middle ages.
@Wig47 жыл бұрын
It's recomended to reserve a table at Raveleijn restaurant, as very often, all tables get reserved and then the entry-at-the-spot-option becomes unavailable. Reserve for AFTER closing time dinner ! (then you get your full time spent in the park) Alternative, try (after park closing) the restaurants of the Efteling Hotel, or Bosrijk. They serve à la carte, at very reasonable prices ! Fun to know : coffee, beer, wine etc in the BAR of the Efteling Hotel, full service, is cheaper then in the refreshment stalls in the park (self serve and carton-cups...) :-)

They clearly had no idea what they were doing throughout all this vlog. No offense, the commentary in the 1952 fairy forest (the oldest part in the Efteling, it started it all) was cringy in a good way but here they almost broke a 1954 Efteling classic. I think literally everybody UP TO TWELVE in the Netherlands rode and loves it. This was like me coming to Blackpool, sawing through a beam of Wild Mouse and then complaining about the staff being dicks over it.

@Wig47 жыл бұрын
It is actually completely different from Disney theming ... :-) .. but the ATTENTION for theming may be on the same level, yes... (that's another matter... ) Let me point out a 3rd park were this is the case : Pairi Daiza, animal theme park, in Belgium. WORLD TOP. (I would rate it 2nd just after Disney Animal Kingdom, no matter if you already know the park or not ) :-) In a similar way as Efteling : they do NOT swim in money like Disney parks. Both Efteling and Pairi Daiza are 100% independent parks, who finance every extention with their OWN money, not the money of a multinational media company.... Disney is UNABLE to build what these 2 parks build, at the same budget as they really DO ! .... Disney would die of investment tyfus ... lol ... Disney is suffering from the "Excess-budget-disease" , with top management that earns way too much (2-5 times too much, REALLY...) , and footfolk (either CM's or building site staff) that are generally underpaid.................

It's hard to explain in words you have to see it. Video's doesn't do it justice. If you are a person like Shawn that appriciates theming and the art and craft behind it. I could imagine what a ride like Symbolica would do to him. It's a theming overload. I know a guy that has been in Symbolica for over 200 rides (Yes i'm talking about you Wesley Vervloet) and still he discovers new stuff. Just go there and ride it.

One day Efteling will surpass Europa park in the attendance statistics. More and more foreigners are discovering the park and in the future it will be the absolute alternative to Disneyland paris for Europeans.
@r-3x8827 жыл бұрын
Imho, EuropaPark is still better than Efteling. There's not much difference in quality, but the German theme park has an amazing overall experience. We must be very happy to have two theme parks like these in Europe.
@theexplodingchicken83407 жыл бұрын
+Simone Graffi I actually think that there is a lot of difference in quality. You only have to look at the darkrides of both parks to see that Efteling has the better and more unique ones. There is more theming in Europa, but I think the quality of the theming isn't on par with Efteling. The quality even varies throughout the park from good to some of the worst I have ever seen at a major theme park (bench the ride). It's quantity over quality at Europa if you ask me.
@Filipolis7 жыл бұрын
Carnival Festival or Panda Droom don't have good theming as well... Europa Park has themed areas, while Efteling just has themed rides. Europa also has many themed queue lines, while only the Flying Dutchman has a themed queue in the Efteling, and the rest are just awful cattlepens, and some even without shading! Also, the ride, food and sanitation quality is way better in Europa Park, as well as the capacity. The Efteling will never surpass that.
@owenc69617 жыл бұрын
I feel like if they expanded their ride offering more adding more coasters especially, they could surpass Europa in attendance. The other thing is the parks should advertise more outside their country to attract more foreign Visitors Europa should do that as well. The big parks in mainland Europe arnt known well by the general public.

Arnold de Jong Yeah but all the dark rides in Efteling only have Dutch audio. I know Efteling's a dutch park but couldn't they mix in a bit of English audio too? Disneyland Paris does that with their dark rides

Another great VLOG and park to add to my wish list. How did Paul manage to drive to the park in only 3 1/2 hours from the South? I am in the South and Google says over 7/12 including the Eurotunnel? Thanks :)
@Thrillridesphotography7 жыл бұрын
Mr H thanks for your comment, I live very close to the eurotunnel and then when you get off the train it's 3 hours. The crossing is only 35 mins and I get there for 8.00 wait for it to open and drive back at close, it's quicker then driving to alton towers for me, glad you enjoyed the VLOG

Thrillridesphotography Ah, that explains it, I’m a lot more South than you 😊. Thanks for solving the mystery, you are in the ideal location for visiting all the European parks 👍

I can't wait to see it again!
@Wig47 жыл бұрын
There is a lot of effects not yet installed, partly due to tryout period (still going on...) and partly because of budget. They will be added gradually (most probably, according to insider information) over the following yeaaaaars only. For instance, the augmented reality scenes (detail video mapping). NONE have been installed at opening time. Video mapping is expensive in production....

Ssssst, don't ruin it :p , You are right. But it's still the biggest in Europe.

I am not even sure that it has ever been te biggest one. It has 2 brothers. There is one at Lotte World in Korea and there is one at Kings Island in the USA. Kings Island claims the following: The Viking Fury opened in 1982 at Kings Island, it was the largest ride of its type in the world. The biggest swinging ships (Twin Flying Bounty by Intamin) that I know of is Viking at Nagashima Spa Land in Japan. There is also a double swinging ship at Everland in Korea. What do you know about the one at China?

Michelle Holmes It works best if you choose to ride a rollercoaster that has at least one inversion. Otherwise, the experience will probably not meet expectations. ;-)

Parents bringing screaming children into restaurants, rides, etc is my biggest pet peeve ever. I don't know how you managed it at 45:02, it would have done my nut in! If a child is screaming like that, they're either too young to be there or you need to take them outside. It's not fair on the other guests. Rant over, sorry! Lol.

You must understand a few things about the Efteling before you visit. It was founded for children, to give them a few happy moments. Feed their fantasy. There once was a big playground, swimming, kanoing and row boats, but that has gone. It is based on the fairy tales of the brothers Grimm, of Hans Christian Andersen and of Scheherazade (fairy tales of 1001 nights). The first graphic designer was Anton Pieck, famous for his romantic illustrations. Where imperfect buildings were his example, a crack here, some fallen plaster there, a beam that saw the wear of time etc. For an impression of his work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/emWqlmNuYtimbLs Dutch people liked this man very much and admired his works. They recognize what they see and enjoy a visit. Nowadays the Efteling wants to compete with Disney and loses its character fast. I do not know whether that's a wise decision, because offering something unique is better than to be a copy.

I think a lot of Europeans from that area of Europe can be perceived as rude, even though they aren't necessarily meaning to be. I've worked with a lot of people from that corner of the world, and they can be quite direct and to the point. Especially Germans! I don't think it's intended, it's just a cultural difference. :)

Take the filmscreen out of Pandadroom and put in a great Live Show in that theater. Something like Mickey and the magician in Disney but Efteling themed. That would be another great adition to the park!
