something i adore is how you've put the quotes in these kind of topic questions, it's something other english videos don't do and is sooo helpful when you're thining of thesis statements to write about for a paragraph, i love the layout so much !!! this video was incredibly helpful, thank you!!!

Honestly, these in depth analyses videos are really helpful, and have some excellent points. DystopiaJunkie > Mr Bruff. Sorry to all the Mr Bruff stans but it's true!

Just a concept I was watching a documentary on the titanic and it was thought to be made of lesser quality steel which I thought connected to the quotation “lower costs and higher prices” I was also thinking, there was also thought to have had a fire on the ship before hand and instead of delaying to repair, they sent people on; which I thought could relate to mr birling caring about money more than family e.g. when he finds out about Eric’s child’s death/ his grandson he’s still mad about money.

Nice connection! Certainly the attitude Mr Birling has (money over people) has real life precedents, including what you've described there with the Titanic! It seems the pursuit of profit was something that 'cost' many lives back in the 1910s!

When Mr Birling says that he would give thousands, wasn’t he just saying that to avoid the public scandal that he mentioned to Mrs Birling earlier on in the play? Thanks your videos really help.
@DystopiaJunkie4 жыл бұрын
That's certainly one interpretation of the line, yes! I think it's quite a complex line, to be honest. He's offering to do the right thing (e.g. pay Eva and others like her a better wage), but his main motive is not entirely clear (is it to avoid the scandal? Is it so he doesn't personally feel guilty? Is it because he wants to prevent Eva's death?). He may indeed be doing the right thing for the wrong reason (I.e. one that is selfish)!
